About John Rogers
We made the decision in 2014 to give up our stressful jobs in Derbyshire and relocate en famille to rural France to run a chambres d'hotes ( bed and breakfast). We love the life here with our animals - pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, cats and guinea pigs. We both previously worked in Education. Helen was a Japanese teacher but now teaches yoga here, and John worked for a World Heritage Site but now looks after the house and the garden. Our girls go to a local college and after 18 months are already fluent in French. We travelled widely in the past, but now feel happy that we have put down roots in such a peaceful. tranquil spot, and are happy to share it with our guests.

Why John Rogers chose Romagne
We spent a long time looking before settling on 'La Roseraie'. It has all we want here. Its a beautiful old house set in extensive grounds, and we enjoy welcoming guests all year round, but also like the fact that we have our own part of the house which is completely separate to the guests. This is the "real" France; sleepy market towns, a slower pace of life, the place to spend long leisurely lunches and enjoy the beautiful countryside.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
The house has huge character - from the massive bread oven on the terrace, to the landscaped garden and orchard and the huge barns. To own your own swimming pool would have been just a dream in UK! We even spend time there in the summer evenings, lying on the loungers and sipping quality wine at only 3 euros a bottle, and listening to the calls of the family of Little Owls that live in one of our trees.

Perfect place for a big family holiday
Extended family of 10 stayed at The Roseraie in Aug-18. The house is beautiful and has everything you need. All the bedrooms were very comfortable. We had BBQs / cooked most nights and really enjoyed dining outside in the garden or by the porch drinking local wine until late in the evening! The kids were in the pool every day and loved the large garden with outdoor toys. Overall it was a very enjoyable and relaxed holiday.
Many thanks for your kind comments Rie. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay so much. You were very lucky with the weather and yes the kids certainly made the best use of the pool! Hope to see you again some day.
Quiet peaceful rural haven
This location had the best of both worlds for our family. It's a beautiful old farmhouse close to a small village in the heart of rural France. My wife and myself loved the opportunity to relax, enjoy the countryside and visit the local villages and towns. Our boys loved visiting the nearby monkey park and the theme park in Futuroscope which was a short drive away. The farmhouse itself is beautiful, charming and tranquil. Our boys had a great time swimming in the pool and getting up close to all types of animals. They were very excited collecting eggs for breakfast every morning!
The house itself is very well kept with large, spacious bedrooms. The owners, John and Helen, live in the house and are very warm and welcoming. On arrival, they gave us loads of information about the area and were keen to make sure we enjoyed our stay. They were brilliant with our kids, taking them around with them as they fed the animals and let them help out.
We sampled lots of home made jams and chutneys, all of which were made from produce of the farmhouse and were available with breakfast everyday.
We have already decided to go back for a longer stay (we stayed three days) and couldn't recommend this lovely farmhouse enough.
Thank you Fred for this lovely review. It was a pleasure having you and your family to stay. Your boys certainly enjoyed life on a little farm! I think the goats especially miss all the attention they got. Hope very much to see you again at La Roseraie in the future.
Really nice, peaceful country setting.
A really nice stay, belle the dog was lovely and the owners, John and Helen, were, as if it were possible, even nicer!
The themed rooms provided were really cosy and clean and the garden area and swimming pool were a delight.
The Owners were really helpful and the 'get away from it all experience' that we were looking for is exactly what we got. lovely, couldn't recommend it enough. Will definitely go again as our first choice option.
Thanks Jon for this lovely review. I think Belle misses all the attention you gave her. Glad you enjoyed La Roseraie and hope to see you again here on day.
Lovely, idyllic b & b, wonderful hosts, can't fault it, 100% recommended.
Amazing location in the heart of rural france, authentic french house with a fab garden, complete with chickens, ducks and of course, the peacock! We had the white room with its own terrace overlooking the garden and pool, it was a beautiful room, complete with four poster! Immaculately clean and characterful. What makes this place really outstanding is the warmth and friendliness of the hosts, John and Helen, and their charming daughters. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Breakfast was continental style, enhanced by the amazing home made jams..delicious! We loved it and definitely will return. Thank you so much for making our time so special. The whole experience was a delight.
AVOID unless you like being surround in animal faeces and flies
We're a family of 11, 5 adults and 6 children from 3mths -13 yrs. We arrived quite late on Friday evening the owners greeted us they seemed quite nice then left us to settle in and returned around 11am on Saturday to show us what was what before they left for a camping trip. On the Sunday we went to use the pool we had to go through a gate to enter another gate to the pool area however sheep were gazing in the field between the gates so we had to clear all the sheep faeces, there were loads, to make a clear path to get to the pool area. The pool was GREEN had algae all over, it took 2 of us over 2 hours to try and clean it. We called the Owners and he came back the next morning and tried to clean it with chemicals an a robot. We could finally use the pool on Wednesday. The outside area around the house was very over grown and unkept the grass hadn't been cut for quite a while, so the children couldn't play and run around due to this and due to there being alot of faeces from the chickens and the peacock which were freely roaming. The sunbeds and outside furniture had seen better days wouldn't use it. On a daily basis we had to go around and clean up the front porch area after the chickens. We knew they had animals but thought they would be kept away from where we staying, we were looking for somewhere we could just relax no let the children run around. This wasn't it!
The kitchen area was huge but very cluttered! On Saturday we went to fry something but the frying pans we rusty, covered in dust & mould the saucepans were mouldy, the plates were dirty cutlery old and brittle. We had to buy a frying pan ! No Tumble Dryer when asked about this its use of the owners but they were away!!!
On our last evening the owners returned the kids were playing on the trampoline when he came out on his ride on lawn mower with headphones on and proceeded to cut cut the grass around where the kids were. no warning I had to take them in.
bedrooms a nice size & clean,
Indoor games pool table etc good for kids
Front porch area nice to sit out on in evenings (apart from the flies)
The pool was Green and unsafe to use, once it was cleaned we had 1 days use. He said this was an on going problem
Animal Faeces EVERYWHERE
Outside Furniture old, wooden table chairs looked unsafe to use.
The pictures are very deceiving
A lot of Flies
