Chris and the mice were awesome hosts!
The cellar was a little bit wet but nothing to be worried about!
Nice place to live for a good price!
It was somewhere to stay, neighborhood was nice, but i wouldnt stay there again, because it states A/C but there no AC only a coolant, downstairs it is hot, no ac just fans, no circulation, there is mosquitos everywhere.
There is no washing machine, no dryer, no papertowels, there was no grill to barbecue, no fireplace......other than that it is a big place.
We never met the owner, but Chris his assistant was very nice.
I want to give the most honest and accurate review that I can so I will give pro's and con's for staying here. First let me say that communication was very good before our trip and Nicolas did respond quickly every time I emailed him. Once we landed and were close to the apartment, I called his assistant Chris and he met us there with the keys. He allowed us to walk through and inspect the place, I wish we had been more thorough because the only big negative that I found during the stay was the odor in the basement. Not sure what the smell is but it is not good. The place does have an interesting layout, the pictures make you think that you will be going upstairs but we were actually on the bottom floor and the basement. We never felt unsafe in the neighborhood and there is easy access to the subway (5 minute walk in 2 different directions) and there are several bus stops even closer. I only have 2 small negatives about the apartment, 1 is, the beds are extremely hard ( I had back surgery so hard beds are uncomfortable to me) and there is no comfortable seating to just sit around and talk to each other unless you are at the dining room table. The positives are that there is plenty of room, we had 6 in our party and we were able to spread out. The kitchen is small but we were able to cook a few meals while we were there. The check out process was very easy. We never saw or met Nicolas but Chris did take care of the check in and out process. This is a budget friendly place to stay and it takes about 30-35 minutes to get to Times Square from the apartment which is not bad. We did eat at Peach's Restaurant which is only a half block away and the food was wonderful.
Just recently stayed at this location for 5 days. Communication with the owner was very easy and quick, which made me feel very secure! The house had an interesting layout but there was plenty of room for all of us there. There were some minor differences from what the pictures show, I'm sure the backyard area is more done up during the summer months, but the carpet shown in the basement was laid in the backyard and beyond that was an old rusty box spring and to the right a rusty old stove. Not the prettiest thing to look at, that an the random table cloth stapled to the wall in the room across the kitchen. The toilet had a problem with the plug being broken so we had to fix it each time we flushed. The coffee pot would turn on but would never brew, so just a heads up on that! But really those are the only things i'd had to say 'negatively' about the home, overall it really was great, and I enjoyed myself there. In my opinion it's in a good area with easy access to the subway station. I would stay here again!
A hint to future guests come days for street cleaning. After driving around for 40 minutes one morning looking for a spot on the other side of the streets, I saw how everyone started to double park other cars. I was shocked! So I Googled it on my phone and apparently, authorities turn their noses to it only during the street cleaning hours. I left my phone # on my dash board in case the person I double parked had to move. But it made things so much easier!
Since we got there it was awesome, it was nice and cozy, safe neighborhood. Easy access to subways, 24hr convenience stores all over the neighborhood, Peaches was delicious, there also a bar, and coffee shop super near. I loved it! Made me want to live in BROOKLYN!!!
We applied to rent this flat and were finally offered the one just above in the same house for my family (2 adults+ 3 teens) and a friend of us coming from Chicago. It's true that the Bedford Stuyvesant neighbourghood did not look very safe/pleasant at first sight but we did not encounter any problem even when coming back after midnight with the metro. We even had a very pleasant breakfast at the Peach's which is just round the corner and my husband mentioned a bar that looked good in the main street but we did not have time to try it. It still takes at least 30 min by metro to reach Manhattan from there. Regarding the house and the flat: even if there was some kind of architectural charm, the general state of maintenance and cleanliness was VERY disappointing: a part of the living room's ceiling fall down on the floor and the sofa during our stay and fortunately we were not in when it happened (somebody could have been seriously hurt if we'd been in as the sofa was meant to be used as a bed!), the floors and kitchen looked rather dirty (with some devices to catch the 'bugs'!), the front door was as if it had been already broken and not properly repaired. We've been offered one free night out of 5 to compensate for the ceiling collapse and the mess we had after that; this was really the minimum that could be done. My friend had to sleep 4 nights with one of my kids as we did not feel like using the living room any more (and anyway the sheets on the sofa have not been changed after the collapse and the quick and dirty repair). Without a proper renovation, I definitely do not recommend this flat.
