Stunning location, off the beaten track
We had a fun week at the house (last week of May 2018) - 4 adults and 4 children aged 2 to 8. It has everything you could need. Roger kindly gave us lots of advice and suggestions of things to do when we arrived. There is a nice Auberge down in the village which is within walking distance (maybe not for small children though) and has a bar and play area for children. Otherwise you have to drive for every outing, but there is a lot to do within half an hour. There is the odd spot in the garden where you would have to be a bit careful with toddlers but no more than the usual. The wooden terrace is fenced in although there was a hole in part of the fence which we blocked off ourselves. I recommend going to the lake at Saint Jean Pla de Corts, especially with children. It was beautiful, quiet (in May, probably not so quiet in full summer) with grass and water activities. There's a restaurant/cafe there. We were quite disappointed by the downstairs area, where all the bedrooms are located apart from the main upstairs bedroom - which is lovely with a beautiful huge bathroom with wooden floor and big bathtub. Downstairs, on the other hand, the bathroom and toilet are tiny, dark and in real need of a renovation. There is quite a lot of damp and the whole downstairs floor needs to be redone, in our opinion. So much so that the two couples in our holiday group felt obliged to swap bedrooms half way through the week, because it felt unfair for one couple to take the lovely upstairs room + en suite bathroom for the whole week. If you don't mind that (it didn't spoil things, but it needs mentioning), go for it, because it's a lovely remote house where you can recharge your batteries, the kids (and tired parents) are fully immersed in nature and France/Spain (all right, Catalunya) are both minutes away. Plus there's a big swimming pool (with an alarm system in case a child falls in). We thought the 500-euro deposit was excessive and very unusual on a rentals website. Roger refunded it completely and kindly overlooked the wild vine that the kids had partly pulled off the side of the house (very sorry, hope it regrows asap.)

Excellent location, nestled in the mountains
We spent an excellent week exploring France, Spain and the Pyrenees. In the evenings, when clear, we had the most amazing vista of the stars, with no light pollution to affect the view. The pool was lovely, well used despite a fresh 12 degree water temperature! Les fous Anglais! Figueres is just over 30 minutes away: a good day out was had at the Dalí museum - but do pre-book if you want to go. There are two great restaurants in La Vajol - Manrella and Ca La Conxita, both worth a visit - and with local produce on the menu. The former is open at lunchtime the other all day. Roger is a convivial host, willing to help if necessary and around 40 minutes drive away if he is needed. All in all, a great time had in a beautiful location - we would certainly recommend it to anyone wanting to visit the region.

Beautiful mountain escape with good sized pool
Beautiful location with a stunning view over the valley. It was a very peaceful place. We enjoyed 2 weeks there in August and visited places both in France and Catalonia. Ceret was beautiful and the beach was not far away. The road down the mountain into France was narrow and you had to take it slowly. The road into Spain starts as a dirt track then turns into a really well tarmac wide road. Roger and Maribel were very accommodating and easy to communicate with. From our first contact with them, their response was very quick on all occasions. They answered all our questions and made us feel very welcome at their house. Being so high up the mountains, the evenings were pleasantly cool so we had no problem sleeping at night. The pool was a good size but maybe not that suitable for non-swimming children as there was only one main step down and no shallow end - but great for adults and confident child swimmers. Lots of activities at the house, including table tennis and billiards. The internet was slow (but to be expected due to the lovely location) but useful to look up a few things and book tickets to things like the Dali Museum, which is close by and well worth a visit. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Roger and Maribel for their hospitality and look forward to returning to their house in the future.

What makes this property unique

The house is situated on 3,5 acres of land with terraces, meadows and forests. The quality of the air is excellent, as well as the quality of the spring water, really delicious to drink . During the summer, while most people on the coast suffer from the heat, we have wonderful nights of good sleep thanks to the coolness of the air up in the hills . We can also admire the stars and moonshine in the evenings
