About Gill Simpson
Although we now live in Lincolnshire, working in the National Health Service, both myself and my husband were born in Manchester and have a close link with the Yorkshire Dales, having spent many happy holidays there.
Gill Simpson purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why Gill Simpson chose Hawes
We fell in love with the House on the Hill on first sight, being such a characterful property and so ideally located in the heart of Hawes, the most special town in the Yorkshire Dales. The open access to the high hills and rolling valleys is unparalleled!
What makes this Cottage unique
Location is everything - the Pennine Way passes the door and the splendid pubs of Hawes are only a few steps away. We have striven to make The House on the Hill homely and comfortable - including Farrow and Ball paints and Voyage fabrics .

The House On The Hill is a lovely property ideally, and peacefully, located to enjoy the village and all that the Yorkshire Dales have to offer.
The cottage is well equipped, furniture and beds very comfortable, and provided everything we needed for our stay. The complimentary bottle of wine was very gratefully received.
We didn't attempt to use the small forecourt area for parking but didn't have a problem finding a space on the main street a few minutes walk away.
Highly recommended accommodation. We can also recommend The White Hart and Caffe Curva.
The best yet
Lovely cottage, roomy, warm, light and airy, extremely well presented and equipped, as the title says the best holiday accommodation we have had. Could not fault.
House On The Hill is tops
Gorgeous cottage with character, charm and all the amenities you would need for a wonderful stay in the Yorkshire Dales. Little wonder it is so highly rated. Grocery stores, pubs and cafes are all in the village within walking distance. Hawes is a central location to explore the Dales. Would highly recommend. Thank you so much Gill.
Thank you for your comments, delighted you enjoyed your stay.
With best wishes Gill and Andrew
Lovely spacious well equipped cottage
Lovely spacious well equipped cottage
The cottage was beautiful and cosy accomodation. It was a pleasure to stay and I would recommend the cottage to anyone. We can't find it any faults with the cottage however the wifi had a very poor signal. We had to rely on signal from our mobile phones. I would give a 5 star rate if it was for the issue with the wifi.
The cottage was beautifully furnished with 1st class crockery and cooking facilities.
Very homely and comfortable and well positioned for shops and pubs in hawes. The only slight disappointment was the lack of hot water to fill and maintain a hot bath, as the water is stored in a back boiler once emptied takes a while to heat up. I would still give this property 9 out of 10. Because of that small issue. Would definitely book again. Mr C. Leslie.
Wensleydale is in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and there are ample walking and hiking opportunities in the area, with the Pennine Way running through the village. The town of Hawes houses the Yorkshire Dales Countryside Museum and the famous ropemakers, as well as galleries displaying the works of local artists. There are ample opportunities to sample local food and ales at the many pubs within and around the town. The home of Wensleydale cheese, Hawes houses the creamery with a large visitor centre and restaurant. Hawes and the surrounding villages provide spectacular scenery, notably the waterfalls at Hardraw and Aysgarth, and the village of Askrigg, of James Herriot fame, is a short drive away. A little further afield is the market town of Leyburn, and the town of Middleham, known for it's racing stables and castle.
