We were in Dunkeld for a wedding and Viewpark could not have suited us any better! The property was clean, well maintained and very comfortable. The walk along the river Tay is gorgeous (Birnham Wood) and just on the doorstep. Our two little toddlers were delighted when they found the box of toys in their "playroom" upstairs. The owner was lovely, answered all of our many questions on the property and the area in a very timely and informative manner and really could not have been more welcoming. She even arrange to get our children's toothbrushes back to us when we forgot them! We didn't try the pub/hotel in Birnham, but walked into Dunkeld a few times and thought it was great, including the two playgrounds for kids nearby.
We had a wonderful time at Viewpark Cottage, from enjoying sitting out in the huge back garden during the day (the weather was brilliant) to enjoying the real wood fire in the evening. The cottage has very comfy settees and beds, is in a quiet location but only a short walk into Birnam or Dunkeld for food and music. There are riverside walks only a couple of minutes away, including the old Birnam Oak and sycamore tree. Also very handy for Beatrix Potter's visitor centre and gardens, with walk up Birnam Hill (though we advise taking the slower route up not the steep route that we did!), fantastic views from the top made it all worthwhile. We enjoyed excellent meals at Howie's and the Taybank, and enjoyed brilliant music at both. We love Dunkeld and hope to return again soon. Thank you Elspeth for the little touches ie fresh flowers and shortbread! Karen and Gary.
it was really comfy and we had all we need. the family house was warm when we arrived, the lights were on, the garden door were opened and we felt a big welcoming with fresh flowers inside... elspeth is a very friendly host, we enjoy staying at viewpark so much!
Birnam is situated within the heart of Perthshire and the beautiful surrounding scenery is second to none. The village of Dunkeld is nearby across the River Tay where you will find Dunkeld Cathedral and the Taybank Hotel with its well known musical activities. Birnam itself has the Birnam Arts Centre with conference centre, exhibition space and excellent cafe. Around the area there are many diverse activities, including the Loch of the Lowes Wildlife Centre, hill walking, fishing, golf and nearby Pitlochry has its Festival Theatre and other attractions.
