Located on the Fruitland Cove along the historic St. Johns River just north of Lake George. This romantic 'get-away' house is tucked among a canope of live oaks, facing west towards the Ocala National Forest, where you will find the sunsets breath taking from our covered boat dock. Lake George is three miles south by boat, and it has long been known as the 'Bass Capital of the World'. In days gone by, Spanish gallions sailed to the mouth of Lake George for fresh water and rice from a native settlement on an island that pre-dates St. Augustine. History and romance await you here at Pauline's Paradise. If you aren't into fishing - the birds, view and an occasional manatee under the dock will just add to your enjoyment of this quiet and peaceful place.
The luxurious river house consists of:
Master Bedroom - Queen Bed
Wrap Around Lanai- King Bed (River View)

-Large HD Television
-Bose Surround Sound System
-Full sleeper sofa by Scan Design.
-Wood Burning Stove

This private and secluded water front property is located in southern Putnam County, nestled in the middle of the historic Fruitland Cove. Just to the south is Georgetown, where the St. Johns River enters Big Lake George. A short boat ride in either direction you will find Silver Glen Springs, Salt Springs and the Ocklawaha River. South Putnam County is like the old Florida of yesterday. The Oak canapies, the scenery along the water, and the absence of traffic and noise make Putnam County (and especially the River House) a little slice of paradise to many.
It was near here that Marjorie Kinnan Rawling wrote, 'If I could have and hold forever, one brief place of beauty, I think I might choose the night on that high bank above the St. Johns River.'
Whether this is a regular vacation spot or a new one, I would like to extend a warm welcome to you.
Pauline
We enjoyed our month long stay at Pauline's River House! I caught bass, including a 10 pound, 9 ounce largemouth!! Pauline offered to fry-up any I would bring in. The covered boat house was great and I enjoyed raising my boat out of the water each evening. My wife is a quilter and really enjoyed sewing on the sunny Lani. The kitchen is fully equipted and my wife enjoyed cooking most of our meals there. In the evenings we enjoyed watching the large HDTV. Pauline is a great hostess and wants everything to be just right for your visit. We loved our time at The River House!
listing not near accurate. owner dressed inappropriately upon arrival. ROACHES on floors everyday. Dishwasher, Jacuzzi, not working. cupboard door missing. Owners personal belongings in closets, bath, and dressers Bathroom ceiling falling apart. Owner very intrusive. Etc.
We loved our month at Pauline's River House! I enjoyed the fishing and caught a 10 pound, 9 ounce largemouth bass! The boat house was great and I used the boat lift each night to store my boat. My wife is a quilter and she enjoyed sewing on the airy and wonderful light of the Lani. The kitchen was great and my wife enjoyed cooking there. The evenings were spent watching the marvelous sunsets and enjoying the large HDTV. The River House has lots of space and a hostess who cares. Pauline wants everything to be just right for you. We enjoyed the solitude. We found the local restaurant to be charming and served a great menu. Thank you Pauline!
tHIS WAS OUR 2ND TRIP HERE. wE ARE IN LOVE WITH THIS PLACE! vERY PRIVATE, EXCELLENT LOCATION ON THE WATER. WE BRING OUR BOAT. ITS LESS THAN HALF AN HOUR SOUTH TO SILVER GLEN. ABOUT AN HOUR SOUTH OF PALATKA. LOTS OF RESTAURANTS ON THE RIVER TO VISIT. THEIR ARE CRAB TRAPS TIED TO THE DOCK. CAUGHT MORE CRABS THAN WE COULD EAT...AND FINALLY, PAULINE IS JUST FANTASTIC. WE ACTUALLY SPENT SEVERAL HOURS BOATIN WITH HER ON OUR FIRST OF 3 DAYS THERE. wE'VE STAYED IN THE AREA BEFORE BUT NOTHING COMPARES TO PAULINES!
We were looking for a place to just relax and enjoy a long weekend. This was the perfect place! Quiet, beautiful, and laid-back. Pauline was the perfect hostess. She fished with us -- even let us use her new tackle! And the last night we had a fish fry with her. Best hush puppies I've had in a long time! The house has all the amenities you could need. Snowbirds could easily spend a winter here. The river and lake offer tons of opportunities for boating and fishing. Lake George is on the edge of the Ocala Nat'l Forest, which has myriad hiking trails, and there are springs nearby with a swimming beach. You can make your stay here as active or as lazy as you like.
We were pleasantly surprised when we walked into Pauline's lakefront cabin (not to be confused with the smaller lake view cabin behind it.) It's much larger than the pictures show and Pauline has provided every item that we needed during our stay. The interior of the cabin is a homey eclectic collection of modern furniture and antique pieces that are solid and comfortable. Mattresses are comfortable with detailed, ornate hand-sewn coverlets; plenty of nice pillows and linens. Plenty of hot water and large nice towels. Italian tile and Stainmaster carpet throughout. The lanai sleeping porch is understated in the property description, but is our favorite part of the house. It runs the entire width of the cabin and provides a lovely view of the boat house and stunning sunsets over the St. John's RIver.
On our second day, Pauline showed up with a homemade cheesecake! I cooked Thanksgiving dinner in her spacious gourmet kitchen and was thrilled to find everything needed for such an undertaking at a rental.
But this isn't like most rentals. It's very obvious that Pauline has made it her business to provide furnishings, appliances and all that is needed for a long-term and comfortable stay for those who choose it. We enjoyed the fine cookware and utensils, the stoneware, the crystal (yes, there's a china cabinet on the lanai that is chock full of crystal pieces), the abundance of French doors within the house in addition to the great fishing and crabbing.
The entrance to the property was fascinating with a "sleepy hollow" driveway. It was like a step back in time. At night, you can hear a pin drop! We actually requested a fan for noise so we could sleep, and Pauline provided it pronto.
It's very obvious to us that the fine things within Pauline's river house are the result of years of collecting; she has invested lovingly and trustingly into her rentals and it shows. She's a gracious hostess and we will return.
Riverfront, fishing from dock or your own boat, hunting, shopping, bird watching, peace and quiet! Variety of restaurants nearby or within 20 miles. Easy day trips to Orlando (Disney World, Epcot, Seaworld, etc.), Gainesville (Natural History Museum, Butterfly Rainforest), Kennedy Space Center, Daytona Raceway, St. Augustine and many beaches along the Florida coast.
