About Trevor Hodgkiss
Chris and I found a new life with each other in 2000, and decided to buy a 'together' home in the Dordogne for our retirement. We bought this empty farmhouse and attached barn in 2004 and spent our holidays to convert a part of the barn into a small gite. We left England and moved into the gite in 2010, and have subsequently completely renovated the whole property to give us a delightful home and two generous sized gites. We now enjoy our new life in this most beautiful setting, and love welcoming guests to share the enjoyment too.
Trevor Hodgkiss purchased this Barn in 2004
Why Trevor Hodgkiss chose Saint-Just
The property had stood empty for 50 years when we first saw it, however it's setting and surroundings just cried out to be enjoyed. The house was an old farm built in 1836 and stands at the end of a small road at the head of a small outcrop of limestone with four other houses forming the hamlet of Chabrelle. All around are trees and it overlooks the fields of maize or sunflowers down in the valley. There are lovely walks either along the lanes or through the woods, and the wildlife is fascinating. We are just a kilometre out of the village of St Just and 6 kilometres from the little town of La Tour Blanche with it's local shops. For more serious shopping Brantome or Riberac are a short drive away.
What makes this Barn unique
We believe that here is a place of peace and calm, just the thing to refresh and relax you. Both gites are very generously sized and well equipped to a high standard. Each gite has a terrace area leading onto the open gardens, and on to the pool area, all of which is there for you to enjoy. The smaller gite is built without any steps or change of levels and would suit someone with mobility restrictions. To ensure privacy for our guests we have adopted the policy of only renting one gite at any one time, except for a combined two gite rental.

Peaceful and relaxing
This was our second visit to The Barn and found it absolutely perfect.
Spacious accommodation, immaculately clean with all the necessary equipment for a perfect holiday.
Trevor and Christine make you so welcome and are on hand if needed.
We visited some beautiful villages and excellent restaurants.
We would definitely recommend this property and hope to visit again in 2018
Our wonderful holiday at The Barn
Our stay at the Barn was a wonderful experience with Trevor and Chris being the perfect hosts. We received a very warm welcome and were shown around the property inside and out . The accommodation had everything you could possibly need and was beautifully furnished and in absolutely stunning surroundings.
Trevor and Chris left us alone but if ever we wanted any advice etc they were always there and willing to help.
The surrounding towns and villages were so so full of character with wonderful restaurants and we will definately be coming back again.
Thankyou for the most wonderful holiday !
Thank you so much for your review and we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay, we look forward to welcoming you again to our home.
Home from home
Having sold our home on the border of the Charente and Dordogne last year, we decided to rent in another region of the Dordogne. As we were renting for a month, we really wanted it to be our 'home' for this length time and we were not disappointed. The Barn is well appointed and equipped, having the traditional features of a converted barn but all the advantages of modern-day living. The property is situated on a quiet country lane and is very peaceful. The grounds and swimming pool are beautifully maintained, as is everything in the gite itself. Trevor and Chris are the perfect hosts - always at hand to help but never intrusive. We were so thrilled with our stay that we have already booked for next year!
Thank you for your review, it really thrills us when the work we have done is appreciated by our guests. See you next year.
Lovely quiet and relaxing week
A really nice location, surrounding countryside, villages, towns and friendly hosts!
Only grumble was the weather, rained most of the week!
Recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing break.
So pleased you enjoyed your stay, and look forward to seeing you next year. However we are so sorry we have no say regarding the weather!
There is nothing not to like, the properties are both superb some of the best we have stayed in. The pool was well used by our grandson who loved it. Trevor and Chris are wonderful hosts, friendly with good advise and knowledge, but not intrusive, just what you want. The attention to detail is wonderful and there is nothing missing at all. We and our daughter, son in law and grandson had a truly memorable holiday. Thank you both so much.
Stayed here for a week with my husband, daughter, son in law and 1 year old granddaughter to attend our son's wedding in Lisle. The gite was like home from home very cosy and spotlessly clean. Had everything you could have wanted, hairdryer, washing machine, dishwasher, Trevor and Christine even supplied a cot and high chair for our granddaughter. Rooms were a good size and the pool was a welcome retreat from the beautiful sunny weather. It was 42 degrees some days! Lovely patio area to sit out in the evening and relax after a day of sight seeing. We had several meals at le moulin du pont in Lisle, where my son's wedding reception was held. Fantastic setting on the river Dronne and great food. Thank you Trevor and Christine for a lovely week spent at your beautiful gite. Would love to come back and would definitely book again with you. Our property is in a very quiet and peaceful area, great for winding down and relaxing; however their is lots to see and enjoy locally.
We have 2 bikes for our guests, and can arrange bike hire for the more serious.
We have some maps for walks locally and recommendations for places to visit.
