About Michael Woodruff

From Valdosta Ga. and purchased as a second home to go offshore fishing. Also enjoy fishing the river and inshore fishing along with scalloping. The home makes a great get away to relax and enjoy the many water and non water activities or simply spend time relaxing. Community does not have one stop light and I find not only the same renters coming back each year but new ones as well, including a couple of monthly renters from the Northern area. They tell me the house is always immaculate and kept freshly decorated and the location is the best. Give us a try and see how you like it.

Michael Woodruff purchased this house in 2005

Why Michael Woodruff chose Steinhatchee

One of the best areas in Steinhatchee and property is located only 10 minutes via boat to the Gulf (no wake ride). Yard is fenced in offering landscaping, private dock and floating dock to park your boat (boats up to 22 ft with no hard top). Dock is excellent area to relax and cook out. There is a fish cleaning station on the dock. Also have dockage available directly on river for any size boat. Home offers a large screened in porch and the master bedroom has a private porch overlooking the canal. House is fully equipped with all amenities. Very clean, immaculate and furnished/decorated nicely.

What makes this house unique

Nature fully exposed with river, wildlife, Gulf and beautiful sunsets! Several state parks are only a few miles drive to spend the day. The small community is blessed to have a Grocery store, several convenience stores and a Dollar General. If you need a charter for any water activity, they are always available and at great rates. Also you will find many locals who are ready to clean your catch of the day, from inshore, offshore fish and scallops. There are several great landmark restaurants located within a mile of our house. Several full service marinas to launch your boat or get fuel and bait/ice. Night time is always an adventure with a couple of local hot spots usually offering live bands and/or karaoke. The location is great, close or on the water and offer outside bar and tiki environment.

IF SO YOU MAY BE SUBJECT TO A NON REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT. We want you to enjoy your stay and doing your part will allow others to do the same.

We loved this house! Michael was more than hospitable when renting his home to us. It is very clean and more than we expected. Although we could not fit the 24" Skiff down the canal, Michael provided a place we could dock the boat, a stones throw away. It was also nice having a charcoal grill next to the canal to grill out. The screened in front porch was great and we loved having our morning coffee on it. Overall, I give it 5 stars due to the hosts quick responses to my questions and for the great host he was.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the kind comments and certainly appreciate your stay. I am glad you enjoyed the trip and look forward to having you stay with us again hopefully. I am glad the dockage for larger boats worked out for you. As you stated and easily understood....it is a stone throw away. Again thanks and you are excellent renters and appreciate you being good stewards of the house and likewise you were very friendly and easy to communicate with. Have a blessed day! Michael

The house was very nice but I was told we could park our boat at the dock out back but there was no way a boat can get down that canal or under the wooden bridge to get there

Owner's Response: I am sorry for any inconvenience. I reviewed all of our correspondence and advised that some boats without a hardtop or center console window, that are approximately 20" or shorter most likely can utilize the floating dock back of the house, but I cannot guarantee it. I also suggest contacting a neighbor who I worked out an agreement for the renters, to contact them directly ( I provide the name and number) to prevent any misunderstandings. This option allows the renter to drive their vehicle or golf cart and leave it at the residences home which is .2 miles from my house to enjoy the convenience of being very close to my house and boat being secure on the river. I certainly can understand possible confusion when booking and going a trip. So I have taken all the precautionary measures to prevent such along with a solution provided my dock is not feasible. And some customers rent boat slips from the local marinas. So there is a plethora of options as I explain on the phone, listing and any communication with the renter. Thank you very much for your stay and for the review. Regards, Michael

A lot of money for a basic home and many many issues...

  • 1 of 5

We came in for Father's Day and the owner was really great about responding to our questions and getting us information we requested about the area. We paid extra for a deep water dock for the rental boat we arranged. The dock belonged to a friend and when we drove by the night before there was a truck with a flat tire and party debris on the ground. We could not see the dock and felt really uncomfortable approaching some homeowner we did not know to figure out where to dock our rental.... The house was basic and the furniture in the living room was like from a college campus house. One recliner chair had duct tape in two places on the seat. The master bedroom had a TV and two remotes but no cable box - it took 20 minutes to discover there was no working TV. We inquired the next day with the owner and he said he would contact the cable company and get on that soon... The entire home had notes in sharpie marker to let you know what the light switches were attached to, what to do with the shower buttons, how the water heater was limited and would be depleted quickly if you chose to do laundry, how to use the toaster... the notes were endless. He locked up the main closets in the master bedroom and put a bar with a sheet covering to create a closet and had labels made for this area to indicate this was our closet. The washer/dryer in the guest bathroom were jammed behind the bathroom door so you could not get dryer items out unless you closed the bathroom door - you got to do a dance with the doors with every load... The mosquitos were pretty marked since we abutted a canal in the back yard. This was explained in the property description but we had to run to get into the car and the house to avoid the attacks all day - much worse than we anticipated. The towels had stains on them (looked like huge rust stains?). The shower had a teeny tiny head and gave limited hot water spray (about 20 minutes and there were four of us sharing the home!). It had a small living room for the four of us and the kitchen floor was uneven. All in all, it definitely was not one of our favorite properties and we have traveled extensively with VRBO nationwide. We loved Roy's restaurant and the local scallop shuckers we found on 2nd avenue. We loved having our golf cart available and enjoyed exploring the area again. We will definitely return to Steinhatchee but we will unfortunately not return to this property. Nice owner - bad rental home....

Owner's Response: Ms. Trish, First of all I appreciate you being my guests and apologize for the infractions explained in your review. I communicated the boat dockage clearly and multiple times. As explained to your husband whom I have a text stating how everyone enjoyed the trip; I have prearranged dock space located only a few houses down for those visitors who may have problems or may be uncomfortable going under the wooden bridge. I had visitors with larger boats use my dock without any issues. I apologize about the mosquitoes, any labels or notes posted in house for the benefit of the renter and any other issue you conveyed. Conversely, I feel it is unfair for you to verbalize your personal issues about my property when everything I communicated to you and your husband was done properly and accurately. I wish you would have called me albeit there is not much I can do about mosquitoes but I would have been more than happy to try and help. Getting your negative review and already prior have a positive text from your husband was confusing. Have a great day and again apologize about the issues you posted. Sincere Regards, Michael

Quiet, clean and comfortable and surrounded by nature

  • 4 of 5

The house is on a quiet street with plenty of privacy between houses. The furniture was comfortable and the home was clean. The entry porch is screened, so the mosquitoes and no-see-ums don't get in the house. There isn't a hair dryer, so bring your own. My son also recommended some blankets to use while watching TV. The only reason I can't give 5 stars has to do with the fact that we were told our boat would be able to get in and out of the canal, but that was not the case. At the end of the canal, which is tidal, there is a tiny and extremely low bridge. At low tide it was manageable to get it under, but when we tried to come back in 3 hours before high tide, it was impossible. We had to pay $25 to dock our boat at a dock a quarter mile away. Our boat is a 15 foot center console, by the way. It might not be an issue for you, but it was the main reason we chose this property. The trip was fun and the house was nice, but losing the opportunity to pack the boat and go, and pull up to the house after a long ride back from scalloping were drawbacks for us.

Steinhatchee Florida attracts thousands of visitors throughout the year. Most are returning visitors who actual live on the Atlantic side. Depending the time of year determines fishing laws that can be found on the Florida Wildlife website. Many visitors come to stay either all summer or winter or for an extended period of time to enjoy this quaint and pristine town with no red light. The community is golf cart friendly but laws do apply. The town is best known for its fishing both fresh and salt water (inshore and offshore). Of course SCALLOP SEASON is considered the PEAK SEASON. Kayaking has become very popular for bird watching, fishing or simply enjoying Florida's Forgotten Coast. Photography is popular due to the overall ambiance of the area. There is a Dollar General, Grocery store, several nice sit down restaurants, several fast food like Hungry Howies, Subway and a delicious BBQ to go place, few night clubs,, several Marinas and boat ramps and Churches. We are located less than a mile to a boat ramp. If your boat is 20-21 ft long and does not have a hard top or a very high windshield, you can hope on your boat from our dock that is on a deep water tidal canal. Several hundred yards away you will be on the Steinhatcee River and a very short boat ride to the Gulf. Along the way are several Marina's for bait, ice, supplies, purchase fishing license and of course gas. There is also a full service marina that offers boat repair. Perry Florida is only 40 miles away offering many of your big box stores like Walmart and chained restaurants.
