About Ivano Rossi

I was born in London, both my parents were from Garfagnana and as a young boy I spent all my summer holidays in and around Castelnuovo. I am now retired and have recently moved into Villa Terroni, with my cousin Julian and his wife Particia. I spent most of my working life in Banking.

Ivano Rossi purchased this apartment in 2015

Why Ivano Rossi chose Villa Collemandina

Another cousin purchased this property over 10 years ago and carried out extensive improvements. I have visited with him and his wife many times over the years. It was a wonderful coincidence that he was looking to sell at the time that we had decided to move to Garfagnana.

What makes this apartment unique

The Villa makes an ideal family home and we fell in love with the property because of its location and the stunning views from the garden and balcony.

Comfortable, spacious and exceptionally well equipped holiday apartment in Villa Collemandina

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Lovely patio, comfortable bedroom and very well furnished large living and kitchen area. Magnificent infinity pool. All mod cons and of course the excellent welcome and service from host Ivano, family members, and not to forget his legendary ragu. We visit Italy often and Villa Collemandina offers a great base for exploring Garfagnana with its historic villages and panoramic vistas of the Appenines and Apuan Alps. I & W Macfarlane, Scotland

A beautiful villa!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Villa Terroni for 5 nights in July. We had a wonderful time and the villa is perfect for a family holiday. Situated in a beautiful area that we all enjoyed exploring but also perfect for relaxing by the gorgeous and spacious pool.

The villa is really spacious and the furnishings are lovely. We were greeted by Ivano the owner who made us feel so welcome from the very start of the holiday by providing us with spaghetti bolognese, a delicious family recipe. Ivano was able to provide us with local information and gave some great restaurant recommendations.

We would truly recommend a visit to this villa!

Thank you

Relaxing stay in scenic mountain location

  • 5 of 5

Our 5 night stay in Villa Terroni just wasn't long enough!

Ivano and Pat were warm and hospitable hosts, and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable - they even went to the trouble of providing gluten-free pasta for me, alongside Ivano's delicious homemade bolognese which welcomed us on arrival.

The apartment was spacious, spotlessly clean and equipped to the highest level - they'd thought of everything we could possibly need. The bed was comfortable (always an important factor), and the pool was a delightful place to cool off after a day enjoying the beauty of the surrounding area. We'd never visited the region before, but are now confirmed fans of the gorgeous Garfagnana!

Beautiful location and relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time at Villa Terroni. We were met with a very warm welcome from Ivano and we really appreciated the homemade bolognese that he gave us on arrival as we got to the villa a little later than expected. The villa was very homely, the kitchen had all the utinsels we needed which made for an easy and comfortable stay. We travelled with our 1 & 3 year old and they loved spending time in the pool - which was a really good size.

The location is beautiful and it was the perfect place to stay for a relaxing holiday. Thanks Ivano & family.

Tranquility assured with generous and helpful hosts.

  • 5 of 5

The property is in a wonderful area as Ivano, Pat & Julio would agree. The appartment has all you could wish for and the pool is a joy to swim in. Yes, not just a cooling dip, but a decent swimming size. Everyone is very friendly and Ivano is a font of knowledge and contacts. We stay in many self catering places and this is "up there". The area is beautiful and we barely scratched the surface. Ideal for hikes in forests and up mountains. Plus great food at sensible prices. Great holiday thanks all.

Ideal base for Garfagnana stay

  • 5 of 5

Extremely comfortable, well-equipped and spacious apartment in quiet village with easy access. Excellent pool and ideal patio. Hosts made us very welcome and in particular the memorable ragu provided by Ivano. Of the several properties we have stayed in in this part of world it ranks with the very best.

Garfagnana is the lively center of the green and beautiful Serchio Valley in Northern Tuscany and is the ideal destination for a relaxing holiday.

Castelnuovo di Garfagnana is dominated by the Rocca Ariostesca, symbol of the city overlooking the central Piazza Umberto I, owing its name to having hosted Ludovico Ariosto as governor of the Estense province of Garfagnana. The interior of the Cathedral of Castelnuovo Garfagnana erected in the sixteenth century on the remains of a previous Romanesque church dating from the eleventh century in the baroque period was the subject of profound changes, with the addition of nine altars, with the decorative splendour typical of that era. The Municipal Theatre "Vittorio Alfieri" is, with its 510 seats, the second theatre in the province, after the Teatro del Giglio in Lucca. It was inaugurated in 1860.

The Municipality of Castiglione Garfagnana has been recognized as one of the most beautiful towns in Italy and even today may be considered one of the most important and beautiful examples of a "living castle" of the Serchio valley. Another important structure is the medieval bridge with a single ‘donkey saddle’ arch, made with the local stone. According to its construction and architectural form, we can place its construction in the early fourteenth century. Other important places in the municipality of Castiglione Garfagnana are Casone di Profecchia and the Passo delle Radici where there are ski lifts and cross-country trails and which represent starting points for excursions into the surrounding peaks of the Apennines. The village of San Pellegrino in Alpe, at 1,525 m. above sea level, is the highest permanently inhabited village of the entire Apennine chain.

One of the most interesting places in the municipality of San Romano in Garfagnana is the Parco del’Orecchiella. The park is located on the Apennines side of the Garfagnana and is in-between the towns of Piazza al Serchio, San Romano in Garfagnana, Sillano and Villa Collemandina. This is an area protected by the State Forestry Corps composed of beech, chestnut and fir tree forests still populated by numerous species of wild animals such as the Apennine wolf, deer, moufflon and wild boar. The skies are dominated by birds of prey such as hawks and eagles. The park occupies a vast area with paths that have different levels of difficulty: more information and itineraries are available at the visitor centre. Also near San Romano in Garfagnana is the spectacular medieval fortress of Verrucole, one of the most famous monuments which in recent years has been the subject of numerous restorations promoted by the Municipality of San Romano in Garfagnana, which owns it since 1986.

The town of Barga is situated at 410 m above sea level, on the Colle Remeggio in the heart of Garfagnana, and has been recognized as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. The Cathedral is the most important religious building in Barga and the building dates back to before 1000 AD. Another important building is the Teatro dei Differenti which opened in 1795.

The main attraction of the town of Vagli di Sotto is definitely the submerged village of Fabbriche di Careggine, which was submerged by the waters of the reservoir of Lago di Vagli. The village had been built in the thirteenth century, on the banks of the river Edron. Also of great beauty is the pasture of Campocatino, an ancient pastoral nucleus lying in the green meadow basin of glacial origin at the foot of Mount Roccandagia. Starting from the natural oasis of Campocatino you can reach the Hermitage of San Viano, incredibly clinging to an overhanging rock wall. Here, in perfect solitude lived Viano , feeding on wild cabbages growing on the rock.
