About the property

Peaceful, private location situated in 14 hectares of meadow and woodlands.

If your looking for that special holiday retreat, the great escape, in a chill-out zone, youv'e found it. The property can be aproached via the long driveways track, with far reaching views. Through the iron gates It stands proud and slightly elivated, reaching the courtyard which has ample parking for several vehicles.

The farmhouse is on 2 levels, served by 2 staircases. Entrance door to a large split level sitting room with a central wood burning stove. Via a lobby a downstairs bedroom with an adjacent full bathroom. A staircase leads to a sitting area, master bedroom and full en suite. Through the farmhouse kitchen and dining room a second staircase leads to 2 bedrooms and shower room.

Outside space offers fantastic unrestricted views from the pool and terrace area, with large palm trees and giant banana plants, creating a tropical exotic feel to this idilic tranquil spot. The large 12mX5m swimming pool is set in a walled sun-trap garden which has ample sun loungers and umberellas. There is a large rustic feature canopy with seating and dining for 8 people, offering adiqate shade for those scorching summer days, Also there is an additional area with BBQ and AL Fresco Dining, music system and seating for 6-10 people on the terrace, which is draped in cascading grapevines. There is a full size Table Tennis Table for use on the sun terrace, also guests can enjoy the games-room and gymnasium equipment, ideal for all ages, accomodating a standard sized pool table and flat screen TV. Please note that all equipment is used at guests own risk. The owner does not accept any responsibility for accidents or injury caused by miss or inapropriate use of the facilities. All children must be supervised around the swimming pool and gym areas.

About Phillip Deighton

France has been our permanent home since 1998 although we purchased the property a few years earlier, holidays were spent restoring the house and barns. With the addition of the 12mX5m swimming pool and terraces, it provided a totally relaxing place for our family, Our 2 children now grown up and moved away; both children went to French school and are totally fluent. However our Labradors only speak English.

Amazing landscape, deep in the beautiful french countryside. With the hot summer days and the mild winter months. The 18th century property is set in 50 acres of grazing land and woodlands with an abundance of wild deer, with the birdlife and night skies an amazin sight to be seen. The farmhouse is of béarnaise design, constructed of handmade tiles and cobbles from the local river. The tops of the pyrenees mountains can be seen from the house, garden and terrace, all year round. Beyond the mountains is Spain around 1.5hours drive.

Superb house for a away from it all vacation with plenty of space for 2 families

The old farmhouse with pool and covered terraces gave our 2 families the base for a sunny and peaceful vacation. Although far from a town there is a smaller store only 15 minutes drive away. We took a day trip to Bilbao about 2,5 hours drive away. We can recommend this house to all that likes the peace and quite combined with a 180 degree view of the surrounding hills and farm fields.

Superp setting.ample room inside, lovely pool.

We all loved it,3 adults and 5 children, bedding was fresh and yery clean and so was the rest of the house and the hosts were full of local knoweledge, i.e.restaurants, markerts , generly a good time had by all.

Could be 5 stars, if it was given a thorough cleaning.

This house has fantastic potential. Set in a lovely rural location, there are gorgeous views from the front and side of the property. However, St. Medard is really only a hamlet, and the nearest village is 20 mins drive but if you're looking for peace and tranquillity, you will not be disappointed. The house itself is large and very well-equipped. We had ample room for our large family (2 adults, 5 teenagers and 2 children), with 4 good sized bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms, as well as a toilet. One small point worth mentioning though is that the mezzanine area above one of the bedrooms is not available, as the ladders had been removed, which the owners stated was due to safety concerns. This was not a problem though as we still had plenty of space and Kirsty offered us additional bedding if necessary. All bed linen was clean and fresh and there were plenty of towels for showering as well as use by the pool.

There is a large pool outside which we had for our private use. The pool was clean and well-maintained and when there was a problem with the pool, Philip fixed it immediately.

The one negative comment is that when we arrived the house was filthy. Although Kirsty claimed that people had stayed there recently, the house was really musty, with cobwebs and dust everywhere. There were small brown pellets under the sofas and in the bathrooms, which Kirsty claimed were wood lice, but were in fact some kind of animal droppings. When we arrived, the dishwasher was full of mouldy dishes and we had to clean all the dishes we were intending to use beforehand. We spent the first day buying cleaning products, air freshness and making the house habitable.

All of that said, Kirsty and Philip are a lovely couple and although they live in the adjoining house, they respected our privacy and were not at all intrusive. Kirsty was very helpful, with directions to the nearest shops and suggestions for various activities. My best advice to Philip and Kirsty is to get professional cleaners in to thoroughly clean the property and this could be an absolute goldmine. If the issue of cleanliness was sorted, I would happily give this property 5 stars.

Owner's Response: Hi Rosemary, I am just setting up the systems for the start of the new holiday season and feel rather distcruntled after reading your review comments of 2016. You have stated many good point about my Farmhouse accommodation, which I apreciate, however your comments regarding the overall standard of hygiene have shocked me. At no time during the whole of your stay did you complain to us regarding unacceptable standards. However, you were quite complimentary when asked on several occasions if everything was OK. I seem to remember you stated that you were more than happy and comfortable. It has always been of the most importance to us to ensure our guests have a happy, comfortable and relaxing holiday experience. When staying in our farmhouse accommodation and we strive to maintaine high standards and take on board any guests reccommendations. However, its quite difficult to know what guests want and their expectations if when asked if everything is satisfactory, guests dont take the opportunity to voice any opinions or any concernes to the owner, face to face, until after the holiday has finished. Therefore not allowing the owners to rectify any concerns or issues with immidiate effect. After several years or many guests holidaying and returning to our accommodation, you are the first to record such a cryitical review. P.Deighton

The historical city of Pau is reached within 40 minutes drive. It hosts wonderful architecture, to include the beautiful Chateau de Pau and gardens, where Henry lV of France and Navarre was born here in 1553 and was onced used by Napoleon. Designer shopping and gift shops with a multitude of different nationalities of places to eat.The Atlantic coast of Landes is only 1 hours drive for endless stretches of sandy beaches. Biarritz is a little further on with its sophisiticated shops, bars and multi national restaurants. Cote Basque is 1 hour 15 minutes drive for attractive beaches with a cosmopolitan atmosphere with chic shops, superb coastline walks and an abundance of restaurants choices.
