About the property

Suitable for couples or families with younger children. Garden. Private parking

Situated on a quiet, private woodland estate above the River Brathay at the entrance to the Langdale valley, Thirlmere Lodge offers the perfect 'home from home' for couples, or families with younger children. The Neaum Crag site nestles on the hillside amongst the trees in a peaceful rural setting in the very heart of the Lake District.

The lodge has a lovely garden and patio area with distant views to the fells and offers easy access to all the attractions and amenities that the area has to offer. There are many beautiful walks from your front door and full access to the on site Pool Hall and facilities. (Closed mid November to start of March). Your holiday here will allow you to immerse yourselves in all that the Lake District has to offer.

The modern, fully equipped lodge provides a comfortable Sitting room with French doors to the garden and patio area. This room has 2 two seater settees, an LCD flat screen TV with Freeview and DVD player plus a top quality music system.

A well fitted Kitchen/diner with modern appliances including built in hob and oven with extractor, microwave oven, fridge with small freezer compartment and pine dining table with seating for 4. Ample storage and worktop space.

A warm and cosy double bedroom with 4'6 wooden framed double bed with matching bedside cabinets and wardrobe plus space for a travel cot.

A modern bathroom with electric shower and heated towel rail.

A second cabin bedroom with 2 full length 2'6 bunk beds. THIS ROOM IS ONLY SUITABLE FOR YOUNGER PRE TEEN CHILDREN AND HAS VERY LIMITED STORAGE.

The garden has mature shrubs and trees plus patio seating area with views of the distant fells and there is a private parking space.

The lodge is heated with modern state of the art electric radiators and hot water is supplied by electric instant heaters. All heating and electric is included in the price.

All bedding and towels are supplied and the lodge is fully equipped with all kitchen appliances, cutlery and crockery. There is no dishwasher (other than the male member of your party) or clothes washing machine but there are full laundry/drying facilities in the nearby Pool Hall.

Guests have full and free use of the Hall which includes a small swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi and table tennis table plus seating area and a small shop providing basic essentials.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE POOL HALL IS CLOSED MID NOVEMBER TO THE START OF MARCH

The lodge has unlimited Wi-fi broadband (at a fairly low speed) between 9.00am and 9.00pm.

Cell phone signal on all providers is poor but you can usually get through if you take a walk.

Come and stay, relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Watch the wild birds, squirrels and rabbits in the garden. Maybe, if you're lucky, catch a glimpse of native roe deer flitting through the trees. Then as the evening draws in, retire to the cosy comfort of your very own log cabin.

THE MINIMUM AGE FOR HIRING THE LODGE IS 25. YOU MUST NOT ATTEMPT TO MAKE A BOOKING WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL OF THE OWNERS IF YOU ARE UNDER 25.

PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE DON'T ACCEPT DOGS

Great lodge with great surroundings

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful location & the cabin was spotlessly clean. Felt well looked after by the hosts, they were easy to contact via email and responded quickly.

The lodge is well equipped for a self catering stay and had everything we needed. I have no complaints!

Fabulous base in ideal location.

  • 5 of 5

Booked a last minute break to blow the cobwebs off. Communication with the owners was extremely easy and they ensured we had all the information we needed. They clearly love and look after their property. The lodge is spotlessly clean (our daughter now completes a "Four in the Bed" test -passed with flying colours 😉) with all the equipment you could need for a self-catering stay. A real home from home. We were more than warm enough for our winter stay. In fact we found we were warmer here than some stone built cottages we have stayed in in the local area at this time of year. Fabulous walking into the Langdale valleys and onto Loughrigg fell without having to move the car -always a bonus. Make sure you follow the public footpath signs up the hill on site to get one of the best views of Elterwater and the Langdale Pikes. Recommend without hesitation.

Wonderful lodge in wonderful surroundings - we loved it!!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we booked the lodge, we felt welcome. The communication from the owners was fantastic. The lodge sits in beautiful surroundings. A whole week could be spent here walking and you wouldn't get bored. In a great location with a lovely pub at the bottom of the hill with a bus stop if you don't have a car. The lodge itself is stunning, a real home from home feel and well equipped. The owners have done themselves proud. We loved it and will definitely will be back!!

Fabulous Lodge in an ideal setting

  • 5 of 5

Booked the lodge so we could take our 3 year old grandson to the lakes for the Christmas lights switch on in both Keswick and Ambleside. John and Helen were very accommodating with the dates as we wanted to book from Thurs to Sunday. The price was very very reasonable and cheaper than staying in a B&B and the quality of the lodge and it's furnishings was of a very high standard and very much a home from home feeling and spotlessly clean.

The location was perfect and only a short drive into Ambleside.

Would have no hesitation in recommending to friends and family and will definitely be booking again soon!!!

Car: recommended

The full range of leisure activities available in the Lake District are all easily accessible from Thirlmere Lodge.

Some require a short car or bus journey, many others are directly available on foot from the front door. Many of the very best walking and cycling routes in the Central Lakes area are accessed directly from the lodge, including walks in the Langdale Valley, Loughrigg Fell, Elterwater lake, Grasmere lake and village, Ambleside and the head of Lake Windermere and the central mountains of the Lake District, including Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England.

There is also a local bus service 400m from the lodge that will take you directly up the Langdale valley or into Ambleside to connect to all other areas of Cumbria.

If you prefer less strenuous activities like shopping, eating and drinking out and sight seeing then all of these can also be done from the front door ! The main shopping centres of Ambleside, Windermere, Bowness, Grasmere and Keswick are all within a half hour drive or bus ride. The large historical town of Kendal, the Gateway to the Lake District, is a 1/2 hour drive away and the cities of Carlisle and Lancaster approximately a 1 hour drive. All these locations are served by excellent public transport links should you prefer someone else to take the strain.

If all you want to do is to stay local and relax then stroll down to the river and have tea or coffee and cakes at the brilliant Chesters by the River cafe and gallery or have a lager, beer or glass of wine in the adjacent Talbot Bar. You may then choose to wander up the river, past the lake, and do it all again at The Britannia Inn or Maple Tree Cafe in Elterwater.

Stroll back to the lodge and maybe have a swim or sauna at the Neaum Crag Pool Hall before wandering back to Thirlmere Lodge and relaxing in the comfort and quiet privacy of your own detached lodge.

Perhaps in the evening you could make your way into Ambleside and wine and dine at Zefferelli's before catching a film. Lot's of great pubs to sample, from the boisterous Churchill's bar through to the quaint Golden Rule real ale pub tucked away in a quiet corner. In fact, Ambleside offers the full range of wining dining and drinking opportunites, so it's an evening out not to be missed.
