Puerto Morelos: We are just a 2 minute drive or a 10 minute walk from the center square in Puerto Morelos. We have a dozen or more great restaurants, a daily fish market, weekly fruit and vegetable market ( Wednesdays 7-11) and several snorkeling and scuba shops. Fishing trips or daily excursions can easily be arranged.
Puerto Morelos is only 20 minutes drive from the airport - if you send me an email I will forward our own website link with directions and lots more information on our condo including some video and comments from our renters.
Puerto Morelos is a safe quaint Mexican town (village really) with no fast food and not too much trace of commercialization. There is a grocery store and some internet cafes, a Europcar car rental, ATV rentals and even bicycle rentals
Nearby Activities: If you want a weeks peace and tranquility stay in Puerto Morelos - but Cancun and Playa Del Carmen are less than 30 minutes away. Playa has tons of shopping and nightlife, and you can catch the ferry to Cozumel almost hourly and spend the day wandering around this beautiful Island. Our personal shopping favorite is Cinquo De Soles - with traditional Mexican products and a great restaurant with a live Mexican band and great food.
There are lots of other places to visit nearby, Xel-Ha environmental beach resort, Dolphin Discovery and tons of other great activities. Tulum or Chichen Itza ruins are within driving range if you want to visit sites of great historical value, its not hard to spend a week here and feel like you need more.
Personalized Services: Our Condo is maintained by Carlos and Mercedes, we kinda feel like they are our extended family in Mexico. We can arrange airport pickup and drop off, your fridge can be stocked on arrival with all your needs, or we can arrange personalized guiding for a day or more if you would like that kind of service.
There are chef services available for dinner at your condo. We recently visited the El Cid Hotel just up the beach for spa treatments, mine was the eagle warrior deep tissue massage right on the beach.
Palma Real is relatively unoccupied - often there may only be one or two units with visitors at any one time, so its very peaceful and you can really get used to the sound of the waves and the sea breeze, even when its a warm day it feels great because of the breeze and the water.
Owner's Neville and Linda Gardner - Linda from Pennsylvania and Neville originally from Northern Ireland.
Neville Gardner purchased this condo in 2007
We loved the location because its on the beach and the sound of the waves and the breeze create a sense of peace and harmony you can only dream of when you are not here. Many places we looked at elsewhere you 'might' see the ocean from a block away, we are actually on the beach.
Palma Real is a small condo collection, with just 15 units. It's unusual for it to be fully occupied and its location behind the federal port results in an almost private beach. The beach is sandy and well maintained and there is not a big current, so it's safe for almost anyone to swim in.
We were wondering if we were in the wrong place, it is right past the port and feels very industrial until you find the place.. so don't worry going in there, once we found it and got in we were SO happy with it! We stayed as a couple with our three teenage boys and it was very comfortable. Just enough (minor) imperfections that I wasn't tempted to spend the whole trip following them around going, "AHH, DON'T....". The boys loved it, played and played in the pool 😀 Thanks Carlos!
My husband and I were celebrating our 25th anniversary and chose this gorgeous place for our 2nd week in Puerta Morales. By the time we checked in here we were ready for the quiet and slow pace that we found here. The condo is very clean and oh so lovely, it is clear that Neville and his wife Linda settle in here and have provided many wonderful amenities for their guests. The kitchen is very well stocked with quality tools for those who like to cook and entertain. The master bath has a wonderful, roomy shower and they also have many movies, books, yoga mats, games, and all the personal care items you would expect including laundry soap and bug spray. It was easy to just move in and Carlos is such a great manager, walking us through the condo so we felt well informed and comfortable from the start. Gustavo was very attentive to keeping the pool area and other common areas clean and lovely. They have 24 hour security too. We loved watching cargo ships at the port being loaded and off loaded, the longshoremen are definitely performing one of the most dangerous jobs and I would recommend bringing binoculars as we did and we used them often. The port activity is an added interest, not a distraction or a negative in our opinion. Only a couple of negatives and they were not awful...We were invaded by red ants ....lots of them and used the can of raid that was left for us. It was the day before we left so not sure if we just left a few too many crumbs out or what. The other annoying thing was a foul smell around the hammock, which was a drag because I loved lounging in it. It smelled of urine. UGH! Still, I would come back to this lovely seaside village and this place.....It is a jewel!
After a 10 day girl’s vacation at 101 Palma Real, Puerto Morelos, I wanted to share my experience. The stay was fabulous. The condo was bright and spacious with spectacular views from every window and door. What a great vacation rental! The tasteful and trendy decorated residence was modern and immaculate. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook. There is a large purified water cooler in the condo which is delivered as needed. The plastic drink-ware was great for taking beverages to the pool and beach areas. (We put the Margarita Machine to use with some fresh mango we bought in town) Also there was nothing like drinking your coffee on the beach in the morning which is a few short steps from the condo. Another option for coffee, eating or a night cap was the large oceanfront deck that spans the length of the condo. The deck was well-appointed with 4 chase lounge chairs and a large wooden table with seating for a big group. The ocean was warm and we managed to pick up some great seashells. There is a kayak available for anyone who feels like taking the challenge. The pool was sparkling and clean with a perfect temperature for the 85 degree weather. A great on- site property manager named Gustavo was hospitable and accommodating. He cut some coconuts off the trees, trimmed them and handed them to us to drink and eat. YUM! Another gentleman named Carlos who spoke excellent English managed to take care of every one of our needs including groceries, ice and some office supplies. Town was a short ten minute walk where we visited some delicious little restaurants. All of the food we ate was wonderful and very inexpensive. We shopped the local vendors for souvenirs which were bargains (after negotiating the price).Unique items were found as well as traditional ones. Some nights we took a cab back home which was about a $2.00 ride. We planned on going to Cancun or Playa Del Carmen for the day but enjoyed Puerto Morelos so much that we never ventured to either place. The airport was a true 20 minute ride and we encountered no traffic either way. I look forward to being able to book a trip back next year.
Thanks so much for a wonderful stay! We loved this vacation dream condo, light, bright and easy to live in…marble floors throughout, leather sofa, and large dining table. Beautiful artwork from local artists. Comfy beds, the master overlooks the ocean. Walk-in showers and the kitchen is well stocked with equipment but we really didn’t use it much after we sampled the local food in town.
Most importantly, blessed, blessed air conditioning! We went mid-June and that really is close to the end of “the season” in Puerto Morelos so it was a bit hot and muggy but we loved it all the same. The pool is a cool dip, the ocean warm and the hot tube…well hot! Perfect.
When we were looking to book a place in Puerto Morelos or Cancun we read the reviews on this condo. Someone mentioned the road into town being rough and difficult to walk, well they have just paved the road so that isn’t an issue anymore. It is a little dark at night so we took a cab home (about $1.75!) most nights. But it really is a very safe place.
The Palma Real condo complex sits close to the local small port and we did see two ships loaded and unloaded for three of the 10 days we were there but I found it fascinating to watch. Its quite away out from shore and rest of the time there was nothing. Yes there is seaweed on the beach but they rack it daily and it was fine.
Puerto Morelos is a lovely small fishing village that is working hard to keep its identity with conservation programs. I hope they are able to do so. What I love about PM is how friendly the local people are. You can go to the bigger towns around the area like Cancun to the hotel district on the beach but about your only interaction with the locals will be when they are serving you! We loved interacting and talking to local people as equals, one person to another. We don’t speak any Spanish but there are plenty of local folks who speak English, kind of put us to shame. We used a translation APP on my iPhone when we needed help.
Prices are cheap and food is fabulous! By far our favorites were:
elNicho – Breakfast for sure!
elMerkadito-Seafood, Seafood, Seafood!
Cantina Habanero-Best Mojtios! Love their fish tacos.
Al Chimi Churri – Steak! Glorious Filet mignon …hugh and for about $14!
Carlos who manages the condo picked us up from the airport and booked a couple of day excursions for us. He was very helpful and when we had questions he was very available by phone. Thanks Carlos!
Hope this helps! Cheers!
I just returned from a 9 day trip to Puerto Moreles for a girl's week away and our stay was amazing. I haven't slept so well in years! It was peaceful and beautiful and the condo is well stocked and appointed. What really makes this place stand out is the personal service of Carlos who, if pre-arranged, will help you plan as much or as little of the details of your stay as you like, leaving you more time to relax and enjoy. A couple little things went wrong during our stay and it required nothing more than a quick call to Carlos, who always answers his phone, and he's on it in a flash. Also, a shout out to Gustavo who works his butt off to keep the place clean and beautiful for the guests and always does it with a smile. I was sad to have to leave and return to reality, but can't wait to come back!!!
This well appointed and beautiful condo was perfect for our family vacation - pictures and description are accurate but really don't do it justice as the reality is even better! Carlos, the manager, and his onsite staff of Gustavo and Darwin were friendly, efficient and helpful. Snorkeling right off our beach was good and on the reef trip Carlos booked for us even better. As always, our old (Pelicanos, El Merkadito, Café D' Amancía) and new (Clandestyno) favorite restaurants did not disappoint! The only negatives were the very rutted and dusty road leading to the condo and the bit of difficulty we had finding it initially due to the lack of road signs. Also, while the beach is good for walking, you cannot walk the beach into down due to the shipping pier restrictions.
Our condo is located on the ground floor next to the beach and pool. We are about a half mile or 1 Km south of center square in Puerto Morelos - just north of the El Cid resort. We are located behind the Federal Port facility - just far enough to not be hear it or really be affected by it - except for the privacy it gives.
Puerto Morelos is a very Mexican fishing village about 20 minutes drive south of the Airport in Cancun and about 30 minutes drive north of Playa Del Carmen. There is a coral reef running along the shore with a national park just off the coast by our condo.
