Weekend break with our grandchildren

  • 5 of 5

The stables is an excellent holiday cottage. It is clean and comfortable. It has everything you need and more, even a slow cooker.

When we arrived we received a warm and friendly reception from Olga, who had also provided fresh flowers and delicious flapjack. She gave us all the information we needed and would be available if we had any problems.

The cottage is well placed for travelling around the area or just going into Hornsea.

We enjoyed our stay very much and would certainly recommend it.

Ideally situated in open farmland with grounds that overlook Hornsea Mere (the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire) the old stable barn is a charming, homely cottage that forms part of a shared gravelled courtyard and is the perfect retreat for couples and families. The rural setting is an excellent base for exploring East Yorkshire’s magnificent coastline with its wealth of sandy beaches, RSPB bird reserves, and traditional seaside towns of Hornsea, Bridlington, Filey and Scarborough with activities for all ages. Hornsea (1 mile) offers beaches, promenade, a leisure complex, golf course, museum, skatepark and shops, pubs and restaurants; it’s also the end/start point of the Trans Pennine Trail. Guests can hire electric bikes at an exclusive discount. Other local attractions include watersport activities and clay pigeon shooting at Brandesburton (4 miles), the medieval town of Beverley (10 miles) boasts an attractive blend of past and present with its 13th century minster, boutiques, bistros, polo club and renowned racecourse, the harbour and spa entertainment centre in Bridlington (14 miles), The Deep, a spectacular aquarium, the maritime museum and marina all located in Hull ‘City of Culture 2017’ (15 miles), Bempton Cliffs RSPB Reserve with its spectacular colonies of sea birds and the many stately homes in the area at Burton Agnes, Burton Constable, Sledmere House and Sewerby Hall. Travel a little further and you’ll find the historic city of York, where you can learn more about the Vikings at the Jorvik Viking Centre or head north and go cycling at Dalby Forest. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
