About Deb Moxley

Dan & I have always loved the outdoors, especially the forests. So, when he found this property, it was like it was destined for us to live here. & here we are, 12 years later, still enjoying our little piece of Heaven. Lots of upkeep & work I grant you; but well worth all of our efforts!!

When we purchased the property, there was this little weekend cabin placed on the second parcel. Dan & I lived there while building our home for when he decides to retire. If ever!

Deb Moxley purchased this cabin in 1999

Why Deb Moxley chose Sabillasville

Some years ago, we decided to share the cabin & the quiet & solitude that we enjoy so much. Plenty of wildlife & birds to observe. The sounds of the creek alone are enough to make the tension disappear. It's just a peaceful place to kick back & enjoy yourself or a good book or reconnect with family or each other. In this hectic life we live, nowadays, it's nice to know there is a quiet little place to escape to Revuenate, relax or take a much needed walk in the woods.

Guestbook comments from the manager

thank you so much for allowing us the pleasure to stay at your cabin. We had a good time ( peaceful compared to the hustle & bustle of the world) and really enjoyed the wildlife and serene setting. It is a good reminder of how connected we are to the earth & all of God's creations. Maybe next time we will all be able to enjoy it. My wife was working; but it reminded her of home so she enjoyed it some too. Once again thank you for your consideration & the grand tour & being able to see & feeed the deer. We really appreciate you guys. God Bless You All! Quanah, Michelle, Matthew, Caleb & Kalie

Just what I was looking for!

  • 5 of 5

I wanted a quiet place where I could relax, sleep as much as I needed, read, and get away from the rat race that is my life. This was just the place. It is winter right now, so the trees were bare, but it was quiet; I could hear the stream rushing over the rocks, birds talking to each other, and an owl hooting at night. There are things to do nearby, but that isn't what I was looking for. I stayed warm and cozy inside and went for a walk in the woods, over the stream on a brisk but sunny afternoon. I had time to thoroughly unwind, and the cold I've been fighting for some weeks even got better. You don't have to go all the way down to some Caribbean Island and fight the crowds to get rest and relaxation. You just have to go a dozen or so miles north of Frederick, Md.

Absolutely a fairytale spot in the woods for relaxing, refreshing, resting, & remembering

  • 5 of 5

After our stay in this fantastic cabin, my mind wondered again in the woods and urged me to write down a few lines below:

"We are the woods in the woods!" -Trees say, with funny faces as we see.

"Did you bring anything out the woods in the woods?" The deer looks puzzled at our presence.

"We are in the woods! We are out in the woods!" -We say that and mean the same thing.

"Did we miss anything out the woods between in and out there?"

Apparently nothing in between "out" and "in" totally makes sense here.

Peaceful, relaxing, secluded and ole cabin feel

  • 4 of 5

Our cabin was cozy, comfortable and had everything we needed. Perfect for my husband, little ole dog and myself. Close to everything we love, nature, covered bridges, wineries and small towns. Best part of cabin was the screened in porch over looking a babbling brook.

If you forgot something when packing, it's already here

  • 5 of 5

With the exception of food, Deb and Dan have very thoughtfully provided everything else you might need: coats, rain coats, tampons, hand lotions, toilet paper, plastic wrap, flash lights, charcoal. You could literally drive here with nothing but the clothes on your back. The pot and pan and dishes and glasses collection is almost larger than at our house.

Before I say more nice stuff, two caveats. 1) There is no TV or cell phone. None. We drove down the hill to watch the Belmont on my cellphone. 2) There is one three-pronged plug outlet in the kitchen. Bring your hardware store converters -- those gray things -- if you are lugging along electronics. Plenty of two-prong outlets.

This is a beautiful, small cabin on the edge of Catoctin Mountain Park and very near Cunningham Falls State Park. You are 10-15 minutes from hiking trails in both parks. The basket in the kitchen with all the papers about places to visit has a map of Catoctin Mountain Park with Moxley's cabin marked so you know where you are. (We provided a newer version.) Drive down to Central Park Road and go east to pass the entrance to Camp David (DO NOT ENTER, it says, in red) and reach the Visitors' Center.

If you go without dogs and it rains, you can easily spend a day inside just looking at all the interesting stuff on the walls. There are also games and books, and a small DVD collection. Pretty recent Sony DVD player!

Outside is kind of amazing. Totem poles! It seems like every time a tree breaks off with 10 feet of trunk left, a new totem is created. They are clever and fun to spend time inspecting. A very short walk down the hill, you'll find steps off to the left leading to another totem and a bridge across the stream.

A large grocery store (Weis) and the usual fast food places are two exits south on US 15.

Have fun!
