Family-friendly, dog-friendly cottage in the middle of beautiful countryside reached via a bumpy, country track (not suitable for cars with modified, lowered suspension). 5-10 minutes drive from numerous beautiful beaches on the South Coast (Praa Sands, Perranuthnoe, Marazion, Kenneggy cove). Dog-walking, mountain-biking, coarse fishing, wildlife and bird-watching on the doorstep. Far-reaching rural views. Enjoy the surf at Praa Sands and Perranuthnoe, admire picturesque St Michaels Mount at Marazion or seek out the secluded, dog-friendly beaches at Prussia Cove. See choughs and Peregrines at Rinsey Head and seals at Godrevy . 15 - 20 minute drive to three miles of Golden Sands at Hayle or take the 15 minute branch line to St Ives and visit the famous Tate Gallery. The house is light and spacious, with plenty of room outside for boards, bikes, wetsuits, buckets and spades. Large garden with swings for the children. Fresh eggs from our chickens will be part of your welcome package! Two bedrooms with king size beds, one triple room with three singles, one single room , a sofa bed for overflow if necessary and room for a travel cot (provided). The pleasant nearby village of Goldsithney has two charming pubs, a local store and Post Office.
I grew up in the St Just and Pendeen area of Cornwall (Poldark country!) and after studying and working in Bristol came back to Cornwall in 2000 to be nearer my parents and to raise a family. My husband is Bristol born but has fallen in love with Cornwall and everything it has to offer. We have both worked in hospitality and have 15 years experience of letting properties. Our aim is to ensure that you have the very best holiday experience.
Jenny Calvert-Corp purchased this cottage in 2002
Croft Gothal is a magical, idyllic place. The air is clean and the lack of light pollution mean that on a clear night the stars are simply stunning. It is in the middle of the countryside up a leafy, rural track but near enough to the village and the beach not to feel isolated.
The views are stunning, the garden is large enough to kick a ball around and play on the swings, the kitchen/living area is light and spacious and the lounge and bedrooms are cosy. The 'back field' is perfect for building dens or watching for badgers. The surrounding byways and bridleways are ideal for nature-watching, exploring, dog walking and mountain biking. Star-gazing at night is a must!
This place was fantastic. Thank you for the lovely holiday. We would love to come back.
We had a great time at Croft Gothal. It's quiet and peaceful, it's spacious and really well equipped with everything you could possibly need, the garden is lovely for kids to run around in, and it's handy for beaches and all the sights of west Cornwall. Fantastic place to stay and the owners made us very welcome, many thanks for an excellent holiday!
Wonderful cottage tucked away in a lovely setting, peaceful, quiet and spacious inside and out. Luxurious cottage with comfy beds and easy to use shower. Clean well maintained inside and out. All mod cons so easy to use. Our two dogs thought we had moved in, settled and enjoyed every minute. We spent our days on
the beaches and parks and gardens, eating in Dog friendly pubs or dining at the cottage. The owners were helpful and there to advise when needed. Would and have already recommend this first class holiday cottage.
Croft Gothal is a lovely house nestled in the quiet hills of Cornwall and just a short distance from the sea. It has plenty of living space with a large and well equipped kitchen which allows everyone some space to relax. The garden is endlessly interesting and reminds me of Mr McGregors garden - there are plenty of bunny rabbits. The very clever squirrels also made an appearance, stealing the food meant for the birds.
The house is within easy reach of everything, wild coastline, good attractions, quiet beaches and our favourite, Godrevy beach with its surf. Large supermarkets are only 15 minutes away and our adult children came for a while with an easy rail pick up at Penzance.
It was so relaxing we are having a hard time getting back to normal!
Lovely secluded property, bit of a rural idyll with a sizeable garden, country views and lots of birds to watch. The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed: we particularly appreciated the generous supplies of basics like soap and toilet paper, which you definitely don't get in every rental property. We enjoyed eating outdoors on the pretty patio, surrounded by wisteria and magnolia. Jenny and Des were welcoming and extremely helpful. The cottage information folder with suggestions of places to visit was very useful. There is lots to do in the surrounding area, so much that we could easily have filled a second week: St Michaels Mount and the Lizard were favourites, as well as the local beaches and woods. We never got as far as Land's End, Penzance, the train to St Ives or the walk via the lake to the Loe Bar, all of which we would have loved to do but just ran out of time. Our three boys loved the comfy bedrooms, the tucked away location and the local beaches. The stunning weather helped too! Thank you for a lovely holiday.
I feel so lucky to have found Croft Gothal. Unless my friend had tipped me off, we would never have known it was there. The house is welcoming, spacious, relaxed and 'home from home'. The kids love the swings in the garden and there is ample space to kick a football around and let the kids explore. The hosts, Jen and Des, are more than happy for the kids to help them feed the chickens and the eggs are the best in the world! We've had many bbq's whilst soaking up the fabulous panoramic views, heaven! It has all the mod cons but you won't need these as you have nature on your doorstep that you will want to drink up…
I love arriving and stocking up with fresh veg from the honesty box (known by our family as the 'rabbit hutch'!)at the start of the bumpy track that leads to the house. Delightful. This is just the beginning of the special feeling. The twisty, turny, rural drive leads us to Croft Gothal and already I feel myself relaxing into the most beautiful surroundings that Cornwall has to offer.
My children have in effect spent their summers here since they were little and have delighted in the wildlife, searching for badgers (or at least evidence of them!), seeing buzzards in action, dolphins, seals (good place to spot them is Godrevy – our record so far is 54 at the haul-out). There is a local train that takes you into St Ives and kids love the small train ride there from St Erth.
I love the fact we have long rural country walks on our doorstep but can nip to my most favourite beach (and I have been to many in my 35 years of visiting Cornwall!) at Prussia Cove.
A visit to the Sand Bar at Praa Sands is a must for it's relaxed atmosphere and spectacular sea views and the Sunday Lunch carvery is great. Be sure to book a table though as it is so popular with the locals and tourists and can get busy….
I have visited many other places in Cornwall but always find we return to Croft Gothal purely because we adore the location and the welcome we get from Jen and Des (who are also brilliant at advising on places to visit). Just don't tell everyone….
The long track may lead you to thinking you maybe lost, but what a hidden treasure when you arrive at Croft Gothal cottage.
Plenty of parking, beautiful views lots of space for children and dog to run around and The Chickens we were so excited!!
The cottage is really beautiful clean, cosy and inviting.
The children loved picking there bedrooms and the beds were really comfortable.
We went on some lovely local walks so peaceful.
The beaches were lovely, definatly have to come back in the summer. We went to the sandbar for food which was great the air hockey game kept us all entertained and sea views. We loved this mini break just what we all needed.I would definatly recommend Croft Gothal. Such a relaxing easy holiday. Thank you
