About the property

At Casa Chambers, personalised service, expert local advise and more info than you can shake a stick at is all a part of the service—if you’re looking for more than a faceless agency, you’ve found the right place! Our fourth-floor apartment (pictured above) is a part of the Los Gavilanes Complex just off Isla Canela beach in Southern Spain. With a pool on one side and a 7km beach with Atlantic views on the other, it’s the perfect spot for a little R&R in the sun, whether for a quick weekend break or more. With a master bedroom suite, a twin bedroom, two bathrooms, a fully-equipped kitchen and lounge as well as a large attractive terrace with stunning views of both the Spanish and Portuguese coastline, our apartment offers a central location from which you can explore the very best that Andalucía has to offer!

Casa Chambers is more than just a room with a view—we have made it a home away from home with all the creature comforts included. Combined with our personalised service, it’s no wonder that we have families coming back year after year to stay with us. If you’re new to Isla Canela and want to explore everything this idyllic location has to offer, our local knowledge gives you the lowdown: the best beaches, the yummiest restaurants and more! We provide an online welcome pack with our local guide so you arrive with all the facts and information you need.

Isla Canela is a special place, tucked away in the unspoilt region of Huelva in Andalucia. A natural island located at the mouth of the Guardiana River, to the south of the town of Ayamonte which closely borders Portugal.

Sunsets are special on Isla Canela; step outside onto our terrace and watch the sun set across both Spain AND Portugal. After the sun has set, uncork a bottle of local wine and stay tuned: the lighthouse across the way in Portugal will soon beam across the night sky, creating a romantic setting for al fresco dining. An experience you won't forget!

Our charming, well-furnished terrace at Casa Chambers is covered by the roof of the penthouse above, so you're shaded from the heat of the midday sun. It comfortably seats six and is a smart and informal space, where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, sun set drinks and dinner, with family and friends.

The large master en suite bedroom has patio doors leading onto the terrace. There's a second bedroom and shower room making our home ideal accommodation for families or couples travelling together.

Our communal pool is set in beautiful landscaped gardens. Take a dip in the aquamarine water to cool off, after a morning at the beach, or before your afternoon siesta. It's a family-friendly pool, which your children will love to play in.

Our charming community is so relaxing, you might not want to get up and explore the region, but you should. Locally your just a minutes’ walk away from a selection of shops, bars and restaurants and a just a minutes walk to the beautiful local beach, with its smattering of traditional Spanish chiringuitos (beach bars). The local Chiringuito La Cabra is a gem (try the squid!)

Isla Canela is a seven-kilometer-long fishing beach island resort, just outside the town of Ayamonte in Andalucia. Gaze out at the beach and you’ll see dozens of fishermen standing waist-high in the sea, collecting clams to sell locally. Even holiday makers have a go at gathering clams for their lunch. Why don't you try too when you're there!

Andalucia has so much to offer and the untouched province of Huelva, is one of its star destinations. Far away from the maddening crowds, here you can immerse yourself in the natural beauty and scenery. From the Coto Donana National Park, to the pine forests, freshwater lagoons and sand dunes. Look out for the flamingos of the region. You can see them in the wetlands behind our apartment. Huelva is home to a great variety of wildlife and birds.

What's more Casa Chambers is within a stones stones thrown of the Algarve! Travel back in time as you cross into Portugal for a coffee on the Guardiana ferry, where the clock goes back an hour. Time travel costs just 1.75 each way!

We want our space to feel like home-from-home; a space where you can cozy up for long, lazy evenings with family and friends. Soft, thick cushions on the terrace furniture. Full-sized beds. Big fluffy pillows and thick, cozy towels. When you stay at our home, you become part of our family. The apartment is kept in great condition and stocked with amenities.

I love making our guests feel at home at Casa Chambers, which means I'll let you in on the tidbits that’ll make you feel like a traveler, not a tourist. I respond quickly to inquiries, and use Twitter, Facebook, and Google+ daily to arm you with lots of travel tips and local tidbits to help you make the most of your Spanish holiday.

I know how precious holidays are and I can help with everything from taxi transfers to food shopping. Yes, we can even have food items delivered ready for your arrival. It's your time to relax!

About Sarah

My names Sarah and I'm the owner of the apartment. We bought it off plan several years ago as we love visiting the area. It's a great apartment and I spend quite a lot of time on social media uploading videos and photos to help people discover this coastline. I am always online. In fact I'm quite a geek so if yes message you your almost guaranteed of a speedy reply!!

Sarah purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Sarah chose Ayamonte

The complex is the most sought after location on Isla Canela beach due to its prime location.Everything is within a stones throw which is ideal when you have you young children!!!

We chose Andalucia as a place to buy a holiday home as we found the pace of life so much slower than the UK and the people are so friendly. We love the fact that this area still retains its Spanish charm, unlike many of the other Costas. I fell immediately in love with the area as it really does feel like you are in the real Spain.

We are one of the few apartments who are accepted to take online payments using your visa when you book and have wifi.

What makes this apartment unique

Location, Location, Location. The sea view from the terrace is stunning!!! Wifi and unblocked UK websites for all smart devices along with a smart TV in the apartment. Plus the instant booking feature on this advert. Just click the 'Book Now' button.

As a mum of a young family I understand you may need specific items for your family and if we can help provide these we will be more than happy to help!

Free wifi in apartment is quite unusual as is a smart tv but i am a geek!

The twin bedroom is accessed off a small hallway separated from the lounge by a doorway. This reduces noise if some guests wish to sleep while others make use of the lounge and kitchen. The master bedroom is quite self contained. Also off the inner hallway. Its ensuite is against the adjoining twin bedroom wall adding that extra distance between bedrooms. Doors off the terrace allow free flow of air and romance with the stunning ocean views. A great space to pamper yourself after a day in the beach. Shower, make use of your summer beauty products and a cool drink looking over the sea all from your ensuite. Great for parents wanting their own space or couples wanting to enjoy free time on their own.

My idea of perfection

  • 5 of 5

Our 3rd visit and 3rd stay at Sarah's, we love the apartment and Isla Canela! First time in high season and we were not disappointed! As said previously Sarah is an amazing host and the postcard is a lovely reception to come home too. The WIFI and SMART tv are an added bonus a top notch stay. Love the area and could go on and on and on.... Contemplating a winter visit.... But most definitely be back next year too

Owner's Response: Delighted you had another great stay. I chuckled when you mentioned my welcome home postcard. So glad you liked it. Thought it may cheer you up each morning if stuck to the fridge! I would be delighted to have you for a 4th visit any time!! I knew the smart TV and wifi was a good idea. Feel justified now ;-) Hope you made use of the coffee maker too new for this season.

Isla Canela Condominium Rental

  • 4 of 5

We are a group of 3 (mom, dad and son 10 years old) who rented from Sarah for the period of July 6th to 13th. Sarah was extremely responsive (and helpful) during the booking process and throughout our stay. The condo was a bit small, typical of European spaces rather than North American spaces, but with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (in addition to a living space and kitchen) it was absolutely fine. The complex is quiet with the only real noise coming from the adjacent Bracelo Hotel, though it was never enough to be considered a problem and it was always quiet in the evenings/night. We were a bit concerned that the condo didn't have AC, though there were stand-up fans provided in the living area and both bedrooms. However, the apartment was on the 4th floor and despite it being hot every day, the evenings cooled off with a nice breeze and the fans helped to channel the cool air through the apartment. If AC was available I suspect that we would have lowered the temperature a bit, but it certainly wasn't too hot to sleep. The kitchen had everything you would need to cook (which we did for 3 suppers). There are no beach towels supplied, which we found somewhat inconvenient being international travelers; we tend to travel light and lugging beach towels was a bit of a pain. The lack of beach chairs was a similar inconvenience. The washer and dryer were a distinct advantage. The pool was large and clean, though the water was cold (particularly given the time of year). The location is excellent being only a couple of minutes walk from the beach; beach is white soft sand that was extremely hot on the feet. The water was quite warm and certainly much warmer than the nearby Algrave in Southern Portugal. The "strip" in front of the condo building is not the most appealing, but did provide a few good eating spots; The Atlantic Café (a rather non-descript restaurant) had excellent thin crust pizza and crepes (both savory and sweet). The little grocery store a couple of doors down had chocolate filled donuts that were incredible (also available on the beach from a vendor as was cold drinks). The nearby town of Ayamonte was wonderful and we were frequent visitors to Chez Moi, to obtain Belgian Chocolates for dessert. The wine shop Merkajamon is not to be missed as an amazing place for a glass of wine and some jamon and cheese. All-in-all, a great spot for a vacation!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the lovely review. I am delighted you had such a relaxing holiday. The local food and winer is certainly something not to be missed and you found a little jem in Ayamonte for your wine. Merkajamon has an amazing variety and the prices are great. If you ever like to return just drop me a line.

Absolutely brilliant

  • 5 of 5

From the speed and helpfulness of her first response I knew that Sarah was one in a million.

We found it most helpful to have such detailed and accurate information prior to our arrival, and I can't think what she could have done to have made our stay better.

The apartment itself is in a wonderful position, and truly fully equipped, with plenty of hot water, good towels and sharp knives. It was as shown on the website; we hadn't however, quite realised the number of books, games, cutlery, glasses, etc that were provided. Her Isla Canela team worked to a very high standard.

It would certainly be possible to spend a happy time there without a car, but we were glad to have one, and the parking was straightforward, safe and convenient.. Not that we went far, but trips into Portugal were fun, and we have more ideas for our next stay.

The area is not a trendy, sophisticated place, but we found genuine helpfulness around; much English is spoken, but a little Spanish does help. We would never have learnt that the ceramic jars we came across in the little fishing village across from the Marina were for catching octopus without it!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your lovely review. I did laugh at your comment at the cutlery. We have enough plates and dishes to feed an army. I think you can tell from the kitchen equipment we cook. Thanks for being great guests! Sarah

Great apartment, great location

  • 5 of 5

First impression when we arrived was of an attractive building with well maintained grounds and a lovely pool. The apartment is very spacious and clean with all the facilities we needed. The two bathrooms are a real bonus. The view from the balcony with the evening sunset is very special and great for an evening drink before going out for a meal. The beach and restaurants are so close that it only takes minutes to reach them. We really enjoyed the lovely beach because of the lagoons that are formed when the tide goes out, which were so safe for our grandchildren to enjoy. It was so easy to contact Sarah with any queries and we were grateful for her prompt replies. Looking forward to a future visit.

Totally Amazing

  • 5 of 5

Myself, husband and 2 boys aged 6 and 9 stayed here last week. It was our first holiday abroad. We had simply the best time:-) Sarah's help and advice from the onset of booking was exceptional, from advice with flights and airport parking, to the best places to eat. (she really knows her stuff!!)

The apartment was perfect and well appointed, and the kitchen well equipped. The balcony and view was AMAZING.

The pool was fantastic and virtually empty, the grounds are stunning and very well maintained. Isla Canela is a very relaxed town and we very quickly slipped into the "Spanish Way".

We will most certainly be going back!!

"Casa Maravillosa"

  • 5 of 5

Just back from a wonderful holiday at Sarah's apartment. We have holidayed in the area for about 10 years in hotels & apartments and this was by far the very best.

Beautiful terrace to relax, chill out, sunbathe, eat, drink and enjoy the fabulous views across to Portugal with stunning sunsets.

Apartment very well equipped, brilliant wifi & smart tv, good kitchen equipment for trying out Spanish dishes, huge fridge which we kept well stocked with wine!

Sarah is very informative and on hand for any assistance, and her pre-holiday info is very good.

Cannot wait to return x

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review. I'm thrilled you made good use of the kitchen. We love cooking so it's always well stocked with pans etc. Plus the new fridge freezer is my pride and joy. A wine rack holder in the fridge is so under rated! ;-). See you next summer.

Isla Canela
Car: recommended

Isla Canela is situated between the mouths of two great rivers—the Guadiana, which is part of the official border with Portugal, and the river Carreras which separates Isla Canela from nearby Isla Cristina. Despite being an island, it is connected to the Iberian Peninsula through the bridge to Ayamonte.

Isla Canela enjoys some 7 kilometres of beautiful white beaches and sand dunes, the majority of which are located in the Spanish National Park of Marismas de Isla Cristina y Ayamonte. The protected reserve offers pristine natural beauty alongside modern facilities and services for human comfort.

Bird lovers flock to Isla Canela for a chance to spot rare birds including the avocet and spoonbill, which can be found in the marshland. Outdoor lovers will find plenty to see and do too, with many trips available around Isla Canela on bicycle, foot or horseback.

Those who prefer to take to the water can enjoy a boat trip up and down the river Carrerras. It’s also possible to take a ferry trip to Vila Real de Santo Antonio in Portugal, or up the Guadiana River to Sanlucar del Guadiana

Enjoy relaxing with a sporty holiday? Isla Canela boasts many sports facilities, including a marina and an 18-hole golf course, while the waves that lap on the island’s beaches are perfect for wind- and kite-surfing.

History buffs will find plenty to soak up on a trip to Isla Canela, which has a long tradition of fishing which goes back as far as Roman times. Visiting the Punta del Moral, a Roman mausoleum, you can learn about what the area was like in 300AD: a thriving fishing port with a major industry in producing salted fish.

Thanks to its fishing history, seafood lovers will be in for a gastronomic treat: the regional cuisines of this area and all along the Costa de la Luz is said to be the best in Spain—and I would agree. Isla Canela Beach itself is a hive of collection for local clams called coquinas which are simply delicious and a must-try.
