After having travelled extensively throughout Europe for many years we decided to settle in a place and region that captured our hearts and spoke to our souls.
Bibi Ruffler purchased this cottage in 2015
Beaulieu literally translated means 'Pretty Place', And we make a constant effort to make sure that this rings true. It has a sense of tranquillity and peace that are hard to find and once here it's hard to leave.

1. The property known as Beaulieu (“the Property”) is offered for holiday rental subject to confirmation by
Ms B N Ruffler (“the Owner”) to the renter (“the Client”).
2. To reserve the Property, the Client should complete and sign the booking form and return it together with payment of the initial non-refundable deposit (£150.00 per week). Following receipt of the booking form and deposit, the Owner will send a confirmation invoice and statement. This is formal acceptance of the booking. Unless the Owner hears from the Client within 7 days of issuing confirmation the Owner will assume that the Client is satisfied with the arrangements and the contract will take effect.
3. The balance of the rent is payable not less than 8 weeks before the start of the rental period. If payment is not received by the due date, the Owner reserves the right to give notice in writing that the reservation is cancelled. The Client will remain liable to pay the balance of the rent unless the Owner is able to re-let the Property. In this event, clause 6 of these booking conditions will apply. Reservations made within ten weeks of the rental period require full payment at the time of booking.

6. Subject to clauses 2 and 3 above, in the event of cancellation, refunds of the amounts paid will be made if the Owner is able to re-let the Property, and any expenses or losses incurred in doing so will be deducted from the refundable amount. The
Stayed here at the end of July. We had a fabulous time. It is a lovely property and it is a relaxing place to stay. The owners were friendly and it was apparent that they are there to help as much or as little as you want. There are two gites and the owners live on the site, but how it is set up you have your privacy. The pool is great and well maintained. Most of....If not all the time, we had the pool to ourselves. But to be honest it would not made a difference if we weren't. Again how they have set it up works well. The best part was their dogs. Like the owners they are about as much or as little as you want. However, you would be foolish not to 'adopt them' during your stay. They have great personalities and are very entertaining. I must certainly recommend this property and would go back again.
Beautiful and quiet rural setting overlooking the vineyards. Spacious and comfortable Gite, equipped with all one needs when on holidays: modern kitchen (incl. fridge, freezer, oven and microwave), pool, comfortable pool sun beds and deck chairs, pool towels, cool box etc.
We stayed for a week and spent an equal amount relaxing by the pool as we did travelling to nearby locations to visit villages and vineyards (the beautiful St Emilion village and vineyards are only a 25-30min drive away).
Bibi has been a great host, welcoming us upon our arrival and around to help if any questions.
We have just returned from another fantastic fortnight at Beaulieu. It was great to see the improvements Bibi and Fin have made since last year to what we found to be pretty near perfect anyway.
The joy of returning, is to know that everything will be spotlessly clean and welcoming, that we will have a relaxing time to unwind with comfortable beds to get a peaceful night's sleep, that the area is safe and with owners who really care and go to extra lengths to make sure that all is well without ever intruding. It also helps knowing that good local shops are only a 5 minute drive away (you can walk it if you're feeling energetic!) and the supermarket and fuel 20 minutes.
I still find it amazing that the roads are so empty making travelling round a joy. On one trip we sat and watched the Red Kites swooping low, looking for lunch as the hay fields were cut. A visit to the Saturday morning market at St Foy la Grande is a must, with its brightly painted striped roads and colourful overhanging umbrellas with fantastic genuinely local produce among the assorted bargains.
The wildlife in the grounds put in Oscar winning performances, late one evening whilst photographing the hare, 2 hoopoes flew over as 3 deer danced across the next field. Which way to point the camera? Magical. My husband was again chief fish feeder, he's now on first name terms with some of the bigger boys in the ponds.
All this plus the usual beautifully clean gîte with its crisp linens, everything one needs kitchen wise, plus thoughtful new extras, like the lightweight lounging chairs to take under the weeping willows for when you need dappled shade and the new decking next to the pool. Speaking of which, because of the gorgeous weather, the pool beckoned! It's amazing how many hours just pass when you sit doing nothing, reading or lazily swimming. Absolute heaven, yet another 6 * holiday, thank you Bibi and Fin plus the hairy and furry gang.
My Husband and I just came back in July 2016, we had a brill time! the owner are wonderful people whom live on the property however do not bother you and let you have the run of the property ground and pool during your stay. The Gite is beautiful and very well fitted out with all that you would need during your stay, the pool is set within a patio and dacking are with lounge chair and tables and is lit up at night which makes for a wonderful setting for late drinks etc around the pool. there is a small village near bay but for most food and other items, you need to drive around 10 by car, the site is set in wonderful gardens and lawned ares with two fish ponds FULL of carp and catfish which the owners encourage you to feed, however it is alittle isolated which is brill for the peace and quite (we loved it) but a car drive away for anything els. which we just thought excellent you could hear nothing but the sounds of birds!! and dark sky at night were filled with stars.
Would recamend this and have already you can't help but come away recalled and have a feeling of leaving good friends in Bibe and Fin, my husband and I will definitely be going back in the near future.
My partner and I had a glorious time staying in Gite One (Pondside).
It's decorated simply but immaculately, with tastefulness and charm. Facilities are all well kept and furnish you with everything you need for a relaxed week or two sunbathing, exploring and eating the (truly delicious) local produce al fresco.
The Lac de Gurson, just down the road, is a local oasis and provides a lovely spot for walks. The Gites are also located in the middle of an extremely active wine-growing region and we had a great day out touring the local vineyards in our hire car. All the winegrowers were happy to let us taste their wines and totally unoffended if we chose not to buy any - -though there was certainly much worth buying.
The hosts, Bibi and Fin, are attentive, dedicated, but never intrusive; they were kind enough to invite us to share a bottle of delicious wine with them (produced by Bibi's own brother Robin) and to introduce us to the lively local night market in Villefranche-de-Lonchat. They also sourced useful tourist info for us and arranged a fascinating tour of Robin's vineyard - extremely interesting for us as complete wine novices.
We would not hesitate in rebooking if we ever decide to holiday in southwest France again.
If there were 6 stars to give, we would!
Everything about the gîte was quality, from the warm friendly welcome to the comfortable bed with crisp white linen and fluffy towels and absolute cleanliness. The 2 gîtes for couples only - no overcrowding at the pool - adjoin Bibi and Fin's home. This faces in the opposite direction, giving privacy but they are on hand if needed for tourist advice etc and nothing was too much trouble, fantastic hosts. At other times they melt into the background keeping the extensive grounds immaculate, which we were free to wander around, with views to die for.
Although the nearest property is across the valley, civilisation - should you need it - is a 5 min drive away at Villefranche de Longchat for everyday top ups (patisserie!), or 15 mins away at Montpon for the Supermarché.
We must admit that the superb pool drew us to it most days, the weather being fantastic, but for the more energetic, the Lac de Gurcon is close by for lake swimming, canoes etc and of course the Dordogne River with all it has to offer.
As an artist I spent time sketching, painting the wonderful scenery and unwinding while the other half pottered about feeding the fish, his job for the fortnight, spotting all the wildlife, going for walks and marvelling at the clear starry night skies.
As you might gather, we've already booked for 2016 and can't wait to return. We would wholeheartedly recommend either gîte to couples looking for peace and calm in this wonderful part of France.
We are blessed in the Dordogne to have some of the finest Wines in the world on our doorstep that would wet the pallet of any connoisseur.
For the Inquisitive among us the south west of France is steeped in mystery and history, hours can be lost wondering around the local towns of St Emilion, Sainte Foy la Grande known for it's market or the wondrous towns of Bordeaux and Bergerac all within an hours drive away.
