About Jackie

We came to Edinburgh 14 years ago as a family on the suggestion of my husband who remembered visiting his grandparents here as a child and loving it. He thought it was a great place to live and bring up the family - he was right! Over the years Edinburgh has really flourished and now has such a variety of activities, restaurants, walks and bars. All in such a small area. It's ideal for all types of visitors.

Jackie purchased this apartment in 2002

Why Jackie chose New Town

This part of Edinburgh is a lovely secret - right in the middle of everything but surrounded by parks and gardens making it one of the quietest places to be in a busy city. Within 20 minutes walk (or much less) you could be on your way up to the top of Arthurs Seat, looking round the Scottish Parliament, seeing where Mary Queen of Scots lover was murdered in Holyrood Palace, walking up the Royal Mile which leads to the castle, shopping in Princes Street, admiring the collections in National, royal and commercial art galleries, eating some of the best food in Scotland (we have a Michelin starred restaurant at the end of the road), drinking some of the rarest whiskies in the world, or simply standing and looking at the history of Edinburgh from the top of Calton Hill. One visit is never enough.

What makes this apartment unique

This property is spacious and welcoming. It provides a comfortable place to take a break from sightseeing but is only a walk away from most things and a short taxi, bus or tram ride away from the rest. If you come by car there is ample on street parking. The current cost is £2.50 per hour, Monday to Friday, 8.30 -5.30. If you come by train you can walk from Waverley station, it takes about 20 minutes. If you fly, the airport bus takes you to Waverley and you can walk from there, or take the new tram which takes you to York place, a slightly shorter walk. The apartment has everything laid out on a single floor although the access to the front door is down a set of steps so not wheel chair accessible. If you go and see the Georgian House museum then come back to the flat, you can see how everything was designed and its fun to be living in a part of history even for a while and imagine the previous occupants over the centuries.

Ideally placed to take advantage of Edinburgh's attractions without the need of a car or the stress of parking around town. Whether you're coming for a city break, to follow the trail of many writers, to see shows in the many festivals or to take part in any of our sporting events (5 mins from Holyrood park, 20 mins from the Royal Commonwealth Pool), we're in just the right spot.

Beautiful Flat in a Great Location

  • 4 of 5

The flat was exactly as pictured. Great shower and bathroom. Lovely living area and bedrooms with loads of room. Lots of light with windows in both front and back.

The only downside and word of caution on this flat: perhaps stay elsewhere if you are driving a car and staying during the week as you not only have to pay to park, but you must move the car every 4 hours during the day and that’s a drag. You really don’t need a car to explore Edinburgh as it is easy to tour by walking and Uber/public’s transport, but we had driven from elsewhere in Scotland so had a car and this moving the car/paying for parking was inconvenient.

Otherwise, it was a perfect place to stay and the hostess friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend.

Lovely flat in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We loved the apartment! It is very lovely, with everything we needed. It's also in a nice neighborhood, close to many stores, pubs, restaurants and a fairly easy walk to old town.

Spacious, homey, excellent location, great Owner!

  • 5 of 5

Jackie, the Owner, is a gracious Host and makes you fell right at home. The flat is very spacious and has all the comforts of home including a Nespresso coffee maker. This location is close enough to walk to the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle. I recommend this place and will definitely stay here again on a return trip.

Elegant and comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

Even our teenage kids were knocked-out by this lovely apartment! So charming, with all modern appliances and fixtures. We really enjoyed the location on the Royal Terrace, close to downtown, but with a lovely park-view.

We would recommend this place to anyone coming to the beautiful city of Edinburgh.

A lovely place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We spent three nights in Edinburgh at Georgian Elegance. The apartment is spacious and beautifully decorated. And I must say, the bathroom is a treat after a long day of hiking and sightseeing. We had a problem with the wi-fi and should have reported this to Jackie as I'm sure that could have been rectified. The apartment is close to the old city with a bit of walk, and the neighborhood is quiet and, indeed, elegant. Jackie's husband gave us good directions for a quicker way to get to the train station, and their home is directly overhead so contacting Jackie was easy. The apartment is below and does have steps down to it which is good to know if you have step issues. The apartment is conveniently situated near many sights though we found after a long day of hiking and walking, Uber was the quickest way to get back. I have no hesitation in recommending this property for your stay in Edinburgh.

Owner's Response: Thank you for this review. I'm sorry you didn't have good wifi, we are up grading it but I can easily reset it and that solves 99% of problems - give me a shout next time! Glad you got home safely. Jackie

A wonderful place to stay. Lovely, comfortable and quiet but close to everything.

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here. For those who like to know the layout, the apartment has a long central hall with doors at both ends that open onto large, below grade patio areas. In the front you have one bedroom on the left--its window is under the bridge to the ground floor entrance--and on the right a large, light filled bathroom. Further down the hallway you have the second bedroom on the left and a large public room--kitchen, dining space and sitting space--to the right. Both the second bedroom and the public room in the back have large windows that provide wonderful light--a quality important for me. The separation of the bedrooms was perfect for our group. The younger couple took the front bedroom, which allowed them to come in later and not wake those asleep in the back. The older couple had the back rooms to themselves and could sleep, cook and read on our own schedule. This layout allowed us to get together as a group when we wanted to and to have privacy when we needed it. Located on a hill with a park on the opposite side of the street, the area was quiet. But, while being separated from the bustle of the city, it was also an easy walk to several bus lines and a relatively easy walk to Old Town--which the younger couple did frequently. The older couple preferred calling a cab or walking to the bus stop. The apartment was clean, well appointed and comfortable. We used the kitchen on several occasions and found it more than adequate for our needs. The bathroom has a great soaking tub and a large shower. The only downside I can think of is the weak Wi-Fi, which, given we were staying in an old stone house, was not unexpected. It didn't stop us. We had a grand time in Edinburgh during its August arts festivals, and we will remember this apartment as an essential part of the experience. We recommend it highly.
