About this property

Over 200 acres, pet-friendly, Satellite WiFi, DirecTV, & pool table.

Centrally located for all the Hocking Hills parks or enjoy our property with your group for year-round nature loving . . .this is a great location for all the activities you want to experience.

Deer, turkeys, coyotes, foxes, rabbits, frogs, snakes, many birds, and pheasants have all been spotted on our property. If you want to explore our acreage, note that the path up the large hill behind the home at the lower house is NOT paved and can have deep crevices, wear hiking boots or sturdy shoes. There may be high grass so prepare for that and dress accordingly. During spring and summer the natural brush/grass and wet weather cause quick growth and mowing does occur on a semi-regular rotation, however, it is a "rough" path. Feel free to explore and get lost in nature while there.

For a more maintained path hiking experience, there are several nearby Ohio Department of Natural Resources (Lake Hope, Tar Hollow, and Lake Logan) parks with fishing available just a short drive away. If you prefer excursions in the public parks, we are just a short drive to Lakes Logan, Alma, and Hope along with convenient access to many others including John Glenn Astronomy Park and Wayne National Forest.

The 2-bedroom cabin with 1.5 baths offers a tranquil setting in the woods and a place to make the memories you'll cherish for years to come. This home is in the woods up a gravel driveway that is hilly. You should plan to have an all-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive vehicle if visiting during snowy or rainy weather, you can park OUTSIDE the garage and you’ll enter through the garage door.

Dogs are permitted with an additional fee per dog ($75/per) and prior arrangement. There is a dog limit of 2 (two) total. If your animal is a service animal as defined by the ADA, we will need documentation provided to waive the pet fee.

No smoking (of any kind) inside the home. If you choose to smoke outside of the home, please remember to be sure the ashes are extinguished and properly dispose of ALL debris.

Features Include:
• 2 bedrooms – with a Queen bed in each bedroom (please note, the loft bedroom does not have a door).

Nice, but could be better
The location was great and the property is absolutely beautiful! We caught peak fall colors, it was lovely. The things I really loved about the cabin: - having toddlers with us, I really appreciated that there’s a gate for the stairs with a lock that they couldn’t reach. Made us feel comfortable relaxing without hovering over the kids. - kitchen was great, had anything we needed. - wildlife and woods on the property - nice location - cute cabin Things we didn’t love: - LOTS of bugs. I’m not sure if it was something more than typical for this cabin, but it felt like it had to be. The instructions clearly stated not to reach out because of bugs, so we didn’t, but there were a lot. We found wasps everywhere- including in our bed. My husband woke up in the middle of the night with one crawling in his hair. Lots of stink bugs (we didn’t mind those nearly as much as the wasps!). The wasps were all crawling instead of flying, which I assume was either because of the cold or a bug spray outside the house, but that almost made it worse because we had kids that we worried about touching them. My three year old got stung and had a rash all weekend. I’m totally understanding of nature but it did feel like there has to be a way for that to be better.

Good location
This house has a good location to all the hiking you want to do around Hocking Hills! We had our daughter and granddaughter with us on this trip. Our granddaughter is only 17 months so she's all over the place now and I would have appreciated cleaner floors and not so many stairs. I'll do better at asking more questions next rental. The pool table was a big hit for us and Direct TV was nice! Good for a short stay. We were busy during the day hiking and explaining the area.

Lots of charm!
Comfortable and roomy. We spends lots of time in the family room playing pool and enjoying some family time. Unfortunately, we had some rain and humidity, so we didn’t get to take advantage of the large porch, grill, fire pit. That was just timing and the weather. (The rain was mostly in the evenings, so our daytime adventures were not affected.) This was a first adventure with our dogs. They were comfortable and we enjoyed having them with us. Cell service was indeed spotty at best. The dogs GPS collars (Halo) wouldn’t work, so we used their leads. We were informed ahead of time so we were prepared. Wi-Fi was sufficient for our needs while we were there. We were surprised at how close to Ash Cave we were. Water pressure was not great, so dishes and showers took a little longer, but not an issue for a temporary stay. This property was a mystery to us! We were intrigued by the original architecture of the log cabin. I wondered what kind of history is known. I would have loved to see some photos and maybe some background about the property. We spent a lot of time guessing at what it looked like before the renovation and addition. Thank you for sharing with us!

We are a group of brothers and sisters who wanted to offer a natural and private setting to experience all of what the Hocking Hills offers in a wooded setting. We are located on a 5-acre parcel that we own, and with additional brothers, we own an adjacent 200+ acre site that surrounds the home.

Why they chose this property

A log cabin built by family members in 1978 with an addition in the '90s currently offering 2 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms with a mix of modern conveniences and the charm of a log cabin built in the woods and surrounded by nature.

Please bring tick spray or use clothing that is tick repellant treated and/or check yourselves for ticks if you hike the woods. This is not something we can prevent in the woods/acreage.

What makes this property unique

Location convenient to the Hocking Hills area parks in a central rural location.

We do not charge additional guest person fees, as some other area homes do. The nightly cost is the same whether a single individual or full occupancy, children of any age should be included in your guest count.

Access to the hiking area on the property, we are part of the owners of the adjacent 200+ acre property that is also used as a short term rental. Hiking the whole property is available most of the time, the other home sleeps up to 12 people. Please note, the other home's guests may also be hiking the property, however, on 200+ acres it should not be a problem to physically distance.
Things to do nearby/helpful info:
• Parks include: Clear Creek, Conkle’s Hollow, Hocking Hills State Park which includes Ash Cave, Cantwell Cliffs, Cedar Falls, Old Man’s Cave, & Rock House; & Lakes: Alma, Hope, & Logan.
• Canoeing, Zipline Canopy Tours, Scenic Railway, Astronomy Park, Vinton County Airport, Wayne National & Zaleski State Forests, horseback riding, fishing, both Hocking College & Ohio University.
• There are no fish that we are aware of in our ponds/lakes, they are man-made pre-1978 and are not stocked. There are several nearby state parks with fishing available for you should you desire to fish. There is NO swimming in the ponds/lakes.
• WiFi satellite internet service is available (ViaSat max speed is 25-50 Mbps), cell service is SPOTTY in the area. Do NOT plan to be able to get cell reception at the home, it tapers off about 2 miles away. A landline is there for your use.

Plenty to do on-site:
* acreage to hike
* a fire pit (do not cut our trees, if some is left, use it if desired)
* air-hockey and pool table
* poker/card table (chips and cards)
* Books for reading
* DVDs library
* flat screen TVs with streaming access through Roku and WiFi
* Skylights for star gazing
* Games include: Dominoes®, Scrabble®, Chess, Checkers, & Sequence®, Corn Hole, Croquet, and Horse shoes
