Situated in the Vosges Mountains of N.E. France, an easy 350 mile drive from Calais, 80km from nearest airport and close to the French/German/Swiss borders, Le 'Cheval Blanc' is a well-equipped 1 bedroom maisonette sleeping 4. It has beautiful views, space, peace and quiet. Entry to the house is via the large kitchen. The kitchen is well equipped and modern with induction hob and electric oven, dishwasher, fridgefreezer, plenty of crockery and cutlery, small table and chairs for meals.

The upstairs bedroom has large double bed or 2 singles, chest of drawers, bedside tables with lamps and space for cot.

Downstairs good sized modern shower room with powerful shower, toilet, washhand basin and electric towel heater.

In the summer Gerardmer and Xonrupt Longemer lakes provide watersports, boating and walks; and beaches, supervised swimming and flumes on Gerardmer lake. In winter only 10-15 kms from alpine and cross-country skiing. The Alsace vineyards are a short drive away along with a wealth of historic attractions, family activities, walking and cycling in the Ballon des Vosges national park and along mountain summits.

About The Owner

The owners living in The Netherlands and regularly travel to the Vosges to stay in the main house to enjoy walks in the mountain, skiing in winter and enjoying Alsace with its beautiful cities - Colmar, Strasbourg and of course the Alsace wine route.

Why The Owner chose St-Die-des-Vosges area

Beautiful peaceful location with 4 seasons - Summer sports and sightseeing, Winter sports, Autumnal colours and fresh Springs with the countryside awash with minature daffodils.

What makes this house unique

On the borders of France, Germany and Switzerland it is possible to sample all 3 cultures and architecture. Old cities and different areas of countryside and activities for adults and children alike. However if it is peace and quiet and just chilling you want there is a very comfortable living room and/or the south facing balcony with beautiful views perfect for reading with a glass of wine or cup of coffee.

The gite is nicely furnished and the location is excellent for walks, sightseeing or just to enjoy the beatiful nature.

Moreover Dawn is an excellent cooker, what a lemon tart and crumble!!!

Very nice and cosy place in beautiful location

We spend a very relaxing weekend here. When we arrived at a cold evening everything was arranged for and we were welcomed by a nice fire in the fireplace. The apartment is very nice and is getting a lot of light. Everything was as described.

The surrounding area is very beautiful and offers a lot of nice hiking trails.

We are looking forward to staying here again some day.

Prettige, zonnige, comfortabele, wandelweek.

  • 4 of 5
Verified Stay
