Photos and Description of this 6 bedroom holiday villa in Lucca - Villa FLORA: REDEFINED LUXURY

6 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, fully air conditioning, wifi, daily cleanings, 12 sleep

Villa FLORA is a spectacular residence perched high on the green hills outside of Lucca. Its particularly elongated form and hillside position bring to mind an ancient strategy of dominion and protection, as if the villa had been built to effectively monitor the movements of any unannounced visitor.

The villa is located just a few kilometers (10 mins by car) from the marvelous town of Lucca, famous for its original city walls which are just one aspect of the city's timeless beauty that over the centuries has remained intact. Truly a gem of a Tuscan town, Lucca is easily navigable on foot or by bike and is full of delightful and romantic surprises appearing around every corner.

From the villa one can also admire the interesting and evocative Apuane Alps crowning the horizon. In fact, observing the slopes of these mountains, one can make out some of the marble quarries that export this precious stone all over the world. These peaks, often appreciated as a destination for interesting excursions and hiking trips, are renowned for their marvelous vistas stretching out towards the not-too-distant Mediterranean sea.

Scattered over the mountainous terrain, one can find abandoned farm buildings, uncontaminated woods and functional mountain refuges. The hill on which the villa stands is divided into different terraced areas; visually impressive and typical of this area of Tuscany, this landscaping practice has produced what are referred to as "scaloni" or "grand staircases" molding the terrain. The villa itself is found on the first terrace; the second terrace hosts a beautiful swimming pool facing the vast valley and providing a lovely spot from which to enjoy the marvelous panorama.

The swimming pool is large and well-equipped with all the necessary amenities for relaxing or sun-bathing poolside. The pool size is 14 metres x 6 metres. An additional gazebo provides a covered area where one can enjoy cool summer breezes. A nearby annex, located next to the pool serves as a changing room and is also equipped with a bathroom, shower and refrigerator.

Outside, the villa appears as a long building dressed with its original stone walls and displaying, on its left side, what looks like a series of red brick decorations. Typical of Tuscan rural buildings, the red brick patterns that today appear as decorations were once the perforated walls of barns, built in such a way as to allow the circulation of air throughout, so as to keep the hay from rotting.

The garden is characterized by an English lawn embellished with large vases containing flowers, citrus trees, aromatic plants and creeping vines. In fact, running all around the building is an arbor covered with different varieties of climbing plants that guarantee cool shade in the living and dining area. The house has two outdoor areas: the first, flanking the shorter wall, where couches, armchairs and small tables provide a comfortable lounge area for relaxing moments; the second, located near the kitchen, where a table and chairs are set up for dining in the cool shade.

For the happiness of adults and children, the owner built a little green house on a tree on the left part of the main villa. Inside you can find a drawing table from where you have a stunning view of the land all around and 2 beds, if someone want to try the emotion to sleep in this beautiful and adventurous little cot.

The villa's interior presents a perfect fusion of modern and functional furnishings mixed together with elegant and antique pieces. The rooms are spacious with high ceilings displaying their original wooden beams. The floors have maintained their original red terracotta tiles, and the warm and traditional atmosphere is completed with fine furniture.

Throughout the villa guests can admire precious paintings and art objects along with wrought iron and silver accents. Further decorating touches include the highlighting of certain areas of the ancient stone walls with special lighting. The stainless steel appliances and white furniture blend perfectly with the elegant style of the villa and add a modern functional touch, creating a truly comfortable and efficient atmosphere.

About Mrs Sonia

Hallo everyone! My name is SONIA and I am from Lucca. I run my Lucca Holiday Rentals company that offers exceptional apartments in the heart of Lucca. My goal is to help you fall in love with Lucca – to discover, explore, taste and savor new sights and experiences in this incredible city.

My company began almost 10 years ago when I started to rent my family villa after my parents moved to the mountains when they got retired. I spent there my entire childhood and I grew up there in deep contact with the nature and the history. My father thaught me everything about the birds and the antique trees and flowers of the villa and the smell of the sizzling pans used to wake me up each Sunday morning after my mum started to cook! I was fascinated by her when she was telling me the history of the villa in the past century. I thought this kind of feelings are too precious to let them go so then I had the idea to share my love of Lucca and “la dolce Vita” by finding beautiful apartments , villas and farmhouses in my favorite Lucca neighborhoods among my family members properties. Lucca Holiday Rentals started out as a boutique family company and now there are over 15 people working together. We are a friendly and enthusiastic team who will assist you every step of the way, from your first enquiry to your arrival in Lucca.

Disappointing service from Sonia

  • 2 of 5

I should say at the outset that this review is really more about Sonia, than about the villa. The villa was very nice - great views, fantastic pool. The amenities in the house were fine - the beds were a bit hard, a couple of the bathrooms smelled a bit. But generally a very lovely rental house. It had a very good and well equipped kitchen for Italy. The two stars reflect our difficulties with Sonia rather than with the villa.

With regard to our experiences with Sonia - we will say that they seem at odds with other reviewers. But perhaps they are relevant for the next renter. From the outset, it was hard to communicate with Sonia. We realized after a bit that she only emails; she will not speak directly on the telephone for any reason. We also felt she was unhelpful when it came to providing advice, local contacts, or making the trip easy in any way. After repeated requests for help with car rental, we were finally given the name of a wonderful woman named Alice Dami who charged us a concierge service for all sorts of help. After this happened, things were much easier! We were very happy to pay the concierge service to get this assistance as it wasn't going to come from Sonia. Alice put us in touch with wonderful tour guides, found us lovely restaurants, arranged a seamless car delivery, etc. In addition, Alice provided incredible chef services if requested - these were truly extraordinary and special meals. In the end, our holiday was wonderful because of Alice. We are grateful to have got her name to work with. But we had to work to get her name, and Sonia was singularly unhelpful throughout. We did wonder if this was because we rented from Homeaway versus through her own website. (Sonia is not the owner of the villa, she is an agent.)

Luxury Villa with amazing pool in Lucca Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to Villa Flora as we are returning guests of Sonia and, each time, we are further captivated by the serenity and comfort of this wonderful Tuscany gem. The house is spacious yet cozy and is beautifully furnished with all the amenities one could possibly need to enjoy a wonderful Italian holiday. The views of the valley from the house are stunning and there are marvelous places to explore on foot, bicycle or auto in the surrounding hillsides. Our host, Sonia and her team have always gone above and beyond in making us feel right at home and provided much welcomed assistance in suggesting day trips and delicious local restaurants to visit. She also organized a fabulous "pizza night" by firing up Villa Flora’s original brick oven and letting us prepare our own delicious pies. A unique Italian experience! For those who love to cook, the kitchen is well equipped and a large grocery store (Esselunga)is a 5 minute trip by car. Closer to the house in the village of Marlia is a fabulous butcher shop, bakery and delicious coffee bar, all places not to be missed! If you have the opportunity, plan your visit during the olive harvest. Last year we had the pleasure of joining this centuries old tradition which included spreading the nets and "raking" the olive trees to capture the abundant fruit. The weather was superb and views across the hillsides (and our occasional wine and cheese breaks!)rejuvenated us as we moved from tree to tree. Sonia then welcomed us to join her at the olive mill and witness the transformation into oil. With warm bread in hand, we watched the olives churn through production and patiently waited for the delicious oil to pore from the spout. What a unique and fabulous way to experience Italian traditions and an experience that we will never forget! We hope to be back many times more!

charming villa by Mrs Sonia

  • 5 of 5

This property had a visual treat every place your eyes landed. Perfectly located for visiting the cities of Florence, Pisa, Cinque Terre and Sienna, but more importantly for our family of 8 adults and 2 children, a welcome retreat at the end of a touring day. The pool, the sunset seating, the clean, well appointed, spacious apartments far exceeded our expectations. We hope to return to Villa Flora soon as we are now looking to rent from Mrs Sonia for every trip to Lucca and Tuscany.

We will be back!

  • 5 of 5

Your insights were very helpful and made our trip all the more enjoyable. The Villa was all that we had imagined it would be. We enjoyed the local restaurants, wine, most of all, the friendly people. Your GPS was so helpful and all we had to do after a long day was touch “home” on the screen and it brought us there safely. We saw and experienced Tuscany at its best last August. We had a fabulous time, largely due to your attention and company. We all had a great time. We will be back!

An amazing retreat with view

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed every minute spent there. The villa is setted amongst the olive groves and lot of greenery. There is a great view from each room especially from the kitchen where we had our breakfast every morning, all the family together. The little village with restaurants (one on a bridge!) and the grocery of mr Alesandro was great. We found fresh local cheeses, ham and fuit there. Amazing.

Our host was fabulous and the villa was very charming. The fireplace was perfect. The villa is truly an upscale property and we feel we have been lucky to choose it from the wide selection online. We loved Lucca. We had an unforgettable 2 weeks. THANKS
