PRIVATE STRUCTURE. Villa Ronchetti is on the top of a gentle hill looking out over restful and spectacular vineyards and over Forte di Gavi. The villa is part of a large estate and is completely independent. The most noticeable features are its south-facing position, which allows you to enjoy unforgettable sunrises and sunsets, and the absolute quiet that envelops it, a rest for body and mind. The care taken in the choice of décor and the search for antique artifacts, like the doors that separate the rooms, confer on this home simplicity and elegance. The living room, furnished with large, comfortable sofas and a black grand piano, will be your refuge for the cool evenings while sipping a glass of excellent wine from the local production, “Cortese di Gavi”. The villa has large outdoor shaded areas both on the ground floor, with the large furnished portico with summer lounge, and on the first floor where all the bedrooms have access to terraces. The outdoor spaces have been harmoniously thought out with, on the right of the villa, the hanging garden and the large, wooden-floored panoramic terrace and, in front of the house at the end of the gently sloping garden, the swimming pool. The estate has a caretaker who takes care of the garden and pool with discretion.

Interior

The 290 sq m villa has two floors plus the tower. Access is from the parking area along a flight of stairs that leads to the garden and then on to the entrance to the villa. On the ground floor is the living area that opens, on the left, to the living room with access to the portico and, on the right, to the dining room which is connected by a sliding door to the fitted kitchen. Both rooms exit to the veranda with the summer dining area. A hallway leads to the guest bathroom/laundry room and to the stairs leading up to the first floor with, to the left, a twin bedroom with exit to the terrace, a double bedroom also with exit to the terrace and a bathroom with double basin and shower. On the right we come to a small suite consisting of a double bedroom with king-size bed, a large terrace with stairs leading down to the ground floor, a walk-in closet and, in the tower, reached by a flight of stairs, a bathroom with whirlpool tub. The 160 sq m annex is located at the basement level with respect to the villa and has direct access from the parking area; it consists of two twin bedrooms with en-suite bathroom with shower, both with separate entrance, and a billiard room with large windows. On one side of the annex is a garage.

Park

The 2400 sq m lawned garden has a wooden fence and extends in front of the house where the rectangular pool lies. All around the property is an area of about 10,000 sq m, partly agricultural, partly wooded and partly cultivated with vineyards. From the garden you can reach the annex without climbing the stairs. From the porticos of the villa, furnished with outdoor dining and living areas, you can admire the beauty of the park and landscape that surrounds the property.

Swimming Pool

The pool distances about 16 metres from the villa and 12 metres from the dependance. Rectangular-shaped, it measures 12 x 5,50 m with a constant depth of 1,40 m and is accessed via Roman steps measuring 2,50 m x 2,50 m; it is illuminated so you can swim in the splendid summer nights. It is lined in sand-coloured fiberglass, with chlorine purification and a hot-water shower at the poolside. In the pool area is a sunbathing area provided with sunbeds and umbrellas. Another large sunbathing area is on the panoramic terrace which is situated at a slightly higher level with respect to the pool. The pool is open from the last Saturday in April to the first Saturday in October.

Location

I Ronchetti estate stands in a dominant position atop a promontory surrounded by hills mainly cultivated with vines in Monterotondo, in the comune of Gavi (in the province of Alessandria). The territory produces a white wine made from the native Cortese grape which takes its name from its place of origin, “Cortese di Gavi”. The Cortese di Gavi wine has been recognized DOC and DOCG and is a wine with Perfume: delicate; with a hint of fresh fruit flavour: a dry, full, pleasant, fresh and harmonious flavour; a particular mention for the Monterotondo cru produced by Villa Sparina, a white wine which leaves the mark of time and is produced by a historic 1945 vineyard. In the streets of the historic town centre of Gavi are numerous Gothic and Renaissance palaces which continuously uncover traces of the past, large courtyards, wells, verandas, substantial cellars. Be sure to visit the Fortress of Gavi and the estates with Renaissance villas such as “La Giustiniana”, which belonged to the last doge of Genoa, and “La Lomellina” on the old road that led from the Bocchetta to Tassarolo and then to Novi. Of particular note is the beautiful Lomellina road, surrounded by the green countryside, which passes through places of rare beauty. The upper Monferrato area is fascinating because it is influenced by the culture of Piedmont and by the proximity of the sea. Routes of Taste are built around wine to discover local products and ancient flavours that still live on in the area and which give rise to a rich and genuine cuisine, capable of offering unique and unmistakable sensations. The culinary tradition is simple but rich in tasty dishes, above all ravioli, a dish first invented by the Raviolo family in the 13th century; other specialties include risotto alla Gavi, focaccia stirata, potato focaccia while the prince of Gavi salami is the testa in cassetta, made, obviously, from pork.. The wineries offer tastings and here we should mention a super weekend of wine and culture in the land of Gavi DOCG, which is held in late August in Gavi, for the event Di Gavi in Gavi which draws every year 5 to 8 thousand aficionados and which includes the gastronomic prize La Buona Italia and drawings by the Genoese artist, Emanuele Luzzati.
