Perfect Spot

  • 5 of 5

Suite Elena was the perfect apartment for our family (two adults and two children/age 9 and 17) in the historic center of Roma. Alberto was fantastic at check in; very kind and accommodating, even when we arrived early. The apartment is steps to Campo di Fiori, Largo Argentina, etc.,and easy walking distance to the Piazza Navona, Patheon, Forum, Coliseum, the Vatican, etc. It's spacious, with a great rooftop bedroom with a terrace outside, and (unusual in Europe) plentiful air conditioning.

We highly recommend Suite Elena.

Centrally located in the old city

  • 3 of 5

The apartment was spacious and clean, and is managed by Alessandra and Alberto; both very accommodating. As others have mentioned, there are not only steps up to the apartment (roughly 20), but there are also stairs up to both of the bedrooms. The 2nd floor bedroom staircase has a lower head clearance, and then the stairway turns right making it hard when your hands are full of luggage. Additionally, that bdrm has a curved glass flloor-to-ceiling window (albeit a short ceiling) leading out to a small terrace. Sounds nice. Pics make it look nice, but it’s really not. The concept is great, but it’s reality wasn’t IMHO. On a brighter note, the a/c was perfect for the small room. Oh, if you need to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, you have to go downstairs since this room does not have one ensuite.

The 1st bedroom as I mentioned earlier also has stairs up, but only about 10 or so. It also had its own bathroom, which was nice. That set up was lovely.

Last, but not least, the kitchen was sparsely equipped. If ice for a cocktail or any beverage is your thing, you will only find a barbie-doll sized ice tray for making them! Yikes! As one who travels a lot, and who does like the occasional cube, my friends and I all found that slightly annoying.

I would not rent here again for the reasons listed, but overall the location is wonderful and the hosts were really, really nice!

Great for a taste of Rome

  • 4 of 5

We definitely felt like we got a taste of Rome living. Central/convenient to many Rome tourist sites, including Vatican, Colosseum, Pantheon+++. Very walkable to restaurants, grocery, etc.

Terrace was relaxing way to end a long day sightseeing with a glass of wine.

Artwork was very cool and added to Roman experience. Comfortable bedding, slept 3 comfortably, 5 max recommended for large Americans. All appliances/heating/cooling worked well. Nice dining table for meals, well equipped kitchen for light meals prepared.

There are a few stairs to get to first floor, not an issue for us, but thought should know.

Neighborhood felt very safe.

Checkin/out process was very smooth with manager, very responsive and patient with our questions. Good communication via WhatsApp before/during stay. We really appreciate coordination of rides with car service from Termini rail and to FCO airport.

Great Location; Disappointing, Dirty Apartment.

  • 3 of 5

I had very mixed feelings about this apartment but ultimately was unsatisfied with our stay.

We will start with the positives. It is in an absolutely EXCELLENT location. Near Campo, which is then a close walk to Navona or the Pantheon. The opposite direction it is very close to the Jewish Quarter, and a quick hop over the river from there to Trastevere. Also very close to Largo Argentina, a major transportation hub (and taxi stand). The apartment arranged for transport to the airport, which was timely and helpful. The beds were comfy, and the living room was nice. The balcony was also kind of nice. The greeter was very friendly and nice.

Now the negatives: Overall, the apartment was kind of run down. Now, I am not that picky. I stay in European cities often, and I am a sucker for being in the heart of things, which means old towns, and old buildings with lots of older stuff. I am not talking about that stuff. I am talking about the fact that the bathrooms were seriously outdated (despite the pictures, which make them look cleaner/brighter/newer than they really are) and appeared dirty in a lot of places because they were so stained/worn down. Now, even that I could probably forgive if the apartment was stained but nonetheless CLEAN. But it was not. The shower heads were so crusty with mildew and soap scum that the water didn't shoot out straight. The shower curtain in the downstairs bathroom was mildew-y and smelly, as was the mat in the shower floor. Many of the glasses were dirty (not water spots dirty -- thick red crud caked in the bottom dirty) and the pots were so foul that boiling water in them resulted in water with literal scum bubbles floating across the top, the size of quarters. It was disgusting. The kettle for boiling water had thick rusty corroded grossness in the bottom. In addition to the cleanliness issues, there light bulbs were blown out all over the place (bathroom, upstairs bedroom, living room). The toilet seat in the downstairs bath was completely broken off on one side, and about to break on the other. The wicker cabinet was also damaged. AC didn't work in either bedroom.

Now, in fairness, the owner apparently had issues with the person checking out before us, who had broken some stuff. So some of broken items might have been due to them. But the cleaning issues clearly were not.

For what we paid, we did not get very good value at all. There are better places for this price.

Location and responsive hosts

  • 5 of 5

Location doesn't get a lot better ... Short walk to Campo di Fiori, Piazza Navona, Pantheon ... And right at the tram line 8 so an easy launch in any direction to sites.

And a great comfort to have responsive and helpful hosts ... Thank you again to Alberto.

The one thing I would advise is that there are more stairs to the unit than I expected/perhaps overlooked something in the description. This didn't present any issue for my wife and I, but a challenge for our older aunt traveling with us. Not a complaint, just a heads up to anyone traveling that would otherwise require an elevator

Perfect location in Rome with lots of character!

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived at the apartment, we were greeted by the very friendly and helpful Alberto. He showed us around the apartment and gave great tips on where to eat and shop and circled where the attractions were that we wanted to see. The map that he provided us with was well used by the end of our stay. Thank you, Alberto!!

This location is absolutely perfect. We could walk to all of the attractions (except the Appia Way where we took a cab). The apartment is in a great area that allowed us to really experience Rome. It is also only a couple of blocks from where Julius Caesar was assassinated, which we didn't realize until Alberto told us so we visited that site on our first night. It was free to see.

We visited many restaurants in Rome but our two favourites were really close to this apartment. The first is Magnolia with its delicious food and great location at the Piazza where we enjoyed the various musicians, especially the Cellist whose performance was a real highlight! We ate dinner at the Magnolia twice. I can't stop thinking about their Tiramisu with strawberries!!

The second restaurant was Cafffe Camerino (that third f is not a typo) where we went twice for breakfast. The pastries and coffee where delicious and unbelievably cheap!! Unfortunately, I don't have the address but it is on the way to the taxi stand, which is only a short walk away. As a side note, we were amazed at how cheap cab fare was in Rome.

We love how the apartment is decorated with the owner's artwork. The bedrooms were lovely. Our bedroom had a beautiful terrace, which was so nice and the other bedroom had a sky light. The beds were comfortable enough. There was always lots of hot water for showers.

We would highly recommend this place. We have nothing but great things to say about it.

Considered the heart of the city’s historic centre, it is a sheer delight to wander aimlessly around this district. A simple stroll here means inevitably finding yourself suddenly in a vast and celebrated bustling piazza or at a romantic or curious corner or indeed facing sumptuous buildings, famed museums or in small churches full of masterpieces, many of which, in fact, house the works of Caravaggio, Michelangelo and Raphael.

This part of Rome is without a shadow of doubt the best known and most visited by tourists, who often head straight for cheerful piazza Navona, with its famed fountains, its street artists and portrait painters; for the Pantheon, another major symbol of Rome together with the Colosseum, and for Campo de Fiori, a multi-coloured and vibrant piazza where youngsters flock to in the evenings for an aperitif or a chat after dinner.
