This charming apartment makes up the second floor of an old stone house, which was refurbished in 2007. It nestles amongst orange trees and honeysuckle, surrounded by a jumble of similar houses, in a part of Perast that remains largely untouched. The village itself is the jewel of Kotor Bay and one of the most spectacular locations on the Adriatic Coast.
A large terrace with a panoramic view of the bay and its two islands makes up a third of the living space, giving the apartment a lovely outdoor feel which those of a similar size in this area often lack.
It is much loved, and visited regularly by ourselves and looked after by a local managing agent. It is furnished simply, as befits a seaside apartment; unfussily, but comfortably. There are two bedrooms each containing a king sized bed. The bathroom is very simple; a wet room containing a toilet, sink and shower. The living area comprises a kitchen and dining area with table. It is possible to dine both inside and out. However most of our guests spend the majority of their time outside on the terrace and the apartment is really set up for this.
The apartment is a minute from the waterfront; there are however around 100 steps down into the village so it is unfortunately not fully accessible. Free parking is available on the road above and is much closer.
Perast itself has an array of eateries and bars, ranging from a cheap pizzeria to more expensive fish and meat restaurants. Evenings on the waterfront are pleasantly busy with both locals and tourists taking an evening stroll. However if you want peace and solitude the terrace at the apartment usually offers both these; watching the night sky on a warm evening is truly breathtaking.
There are places to swim all along the waterfront and a beach at either end of the village; if you tire of the many swimming spots along the bay, then secluded coves and beaches lie within half an hour's drive.
There is a Mini Market in the village which stocks most grocery needs.
Perast is an hour's drive from Dubrovnik Airport in Croatia and slightly closer to Tivat Airport. Car rental is easy from both.
We are a family of four, having two daughters, and we currently live in South East London.
The Owner purchased this apartment in 2005
Working in the former Yugoslavia in the early 2000s, we fell in love with the area, most particularly with the breath-taking beauty of Montenegro. To our delight our children have come to love their Montenegrin holidays just as much as we do, so we visit as often as time and finances allow.
There is nowhere I would rather be than relaxing at sunset on our terrace with a cold beer. The bats all fly out from the nearby church at dusk and then the stars come out; as there is little or no light pollution they are really something to behold.
The view in the daytime is pretty special too. Boats constantly come and go, the huge cruise liners being particularly spectacular, and the two islands in the bay are clearly visible.
We visited for a week at the end of June and wished we had been able to stay longer! The apartment is simple, but has everything needed for a relaxing break; the kitchen is well equipped with a range of utensils, mugs, glasses, crockery etc, and the balcony provides a great extension to the living space (the views from which are incredible). The bedrooms are comfortable, and are both air conditioned.
The apartment is a great base to explore from, only a short drive or bus ride to Kotor (just 1€ each way) but you have the benefit of getting to return to somewhere a little more peaceful!
Perast itself is beautiful, and has a range of bars and restaurants (we tried the Cafe Armonia and Hotel Conte on the waterfront, and had delicious meals at both, on tables right next to the bay), and a small shop where you can get most of the basics.
Perast is known as the jewel of Kotor Bay and with good reason.

do not take our towels to the beach; bring your own beach towels.
do not use water to excess or unnecessarily; the local supply can be scarce or even non- existent in the summer months so we have a private water supply but we have to pay for it.
do not leave the air conditioning on whilst out of the apartment; it is tempting when it's really hot but please don't.
make sure all the doors and windows are shut when you go out; not only for security reasons but also as this area is prone to sudden quite dramatic storms!
do not smoke inside the apartment.
be respectful of our neighbours if they are there.
