Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Azores

Feel the true experience of being an Azorean island.

Casa da Tia Garcia and the House of Edwardian cottages are of basaltic rock with over 100 years of existence. Once served as housing and atafona (animal stable) to a family of Capelo's parish. Generation to generation have been passed until in 2000 due to its high state of degradation were reconstructed to become Rural Tourism Bed and Breakfast.

Casa da Tia Garcia has capacity for 4-5 people and consists of two floors, housing on the ground floor a living room, a bedroom with two single beds and a bathroom and the second floor with a bedroom with a double bed, a bathroom, a living room and even the kitchen.

The Edwardian house also consists of two floors with capacity for 4-5 people. On the ground floor is the living room, a bedroom with two single beds and a bathroom, the second floor consists of a bedroom with a double bed, a bathroom and kitchen.

Both houses are equipped with washing machine, TV Cabo, parking, crockery and other kitchen utensils, towels for bathroom, linen and bedding. Outside of both houses there are covered areas with barbecue to enjoy in warmer weather.

A beautiful azorean house

  • 5 of 5

I have been here for some days with my family and this location is perfect for visiting Faial. The house is very big with lots of space, just like would expect looking at the pictures, with everything you need. I really recommend it, also because Amparo is so kind and provided all the information we needed. We hope to come back there one day!

2 km: Beach of Varadouro Zone

Formed by volcanic rocks, natural pools Varadouro provide a very nice space with horizon over the blue sea to which it has direct access. Crystal clear waters and excellent visibility, is the perfect place for scuba diving and underwater photography. With different support structures such as toilets and showers, bar, accessibility for people with reduced mobility, is guarded during the official bathing season, having renewed year after year the Blue Flag.

7 km: Capelinhos

The volcano Capelinhos arose from a submarine eruption at September 27, 1957 and has been in business for 13 months. One of the most paradigmatic volcanoes in the world of volcanology, with still an inhospitable landscape. It is integrated in Faial Natural Park Protected Area as for Habitat Management or species given its high geological interest, biological and landscape. The visit to the Interpretation Centre is critical to know the origin and evolution of the Capelinhos volcano as well as the geological history of the formation of the archipelago.

5km: Boiler

The boiler is the largest volcano crater of Faial, about 400 mt deep and 2 kilometers in diameter. It is Nature Reserve for hosting rare populations of the Azores endemic flora. Its descent is not allowed but we can choose to do the walking trail that surrounds and provides stunning scenery of particular interest.

5km: Morro de Castelo Branco

The Morro de Castelo Branco is nature reserve, formed by various geological strata, which by its vertical aspect is reminiscent of a castle and the white color of its walls is named. It is the result of a coastal volcanic eruption that occurred about 30,000 years. For its geophysical characteristics and insulation is a popular location for sea birds who come here to nest, especially the cagarro (Calonnectris diomedea borealis) the demand between March and October, the common-tern (Sterna hirundo) and frulho (Puffinus assimilis baroli ).

15 km: Horta

15 km: Marina of Horta

The Marina of Horta, inaugurated in 1986 is one of the busiest in the world. This is why well-known tradition of yatistas or adventurers leave an allusive painting to your boat on the walls of the Marina. According to legend, this act will bring the boat safely to your destination. So, who goes by the Marina da Horta faced with an open-air art gallery with the whole world represented in the wet this Azorean port, for creative and colorful paintings.

15 km: Whaling Factory

Here you can know the whole process of transformation and use of cetaceans, the whaling toil product, from dismantling to amber collection, oil and bagging of flour. It is visible all the machinery used in this process by binding to the history and stories of Faial whaling until the 1980s. Factory of Porto Pim Whale, is also installed Virtual Centre of Marine Interpretation (CIMV) that allows us to make a virtual trip to the 3000 m deep, towards the different coastal environments and ocean in the Azores. The whale processing factory, is now cultural and educational center, called the Sea Center, spurred by the "Observatory of the Azores Sea".

5km: Fajã Beach

It is on the north coast of the island in the summer zone and ancient cellars. Its beauty is due to the contrast of a black sand with green cliffs and surrounding vegetation.

6 km: Port of Long

In the parish of Capelo, with the Capelinhos volcano, this natural space for bathing the Port of Long reminds us of the whaling heritage of the island, because here the boats set sail for as risky chores. Formed by basaltic rocks, its waters are crystal clear and warm, perhaps also heated by the heat of the dormant volcano.

1km: forestal Park Capelo

In the parish of Capelo this park is extremely pleasant for its freshness and forest aesthetics highlighting the abundance and diversity of endemic plants of Macaronesia. As play area, it is very well equipped with grills and tables challenging races for a family picnic. The reserve small deer, the clearly marked footpath and natural caves invite physical activity. To learn more Azorean ethnography, we see in this place a traditional house in Basalt, with typical furniture and agricultural implements in the "store" as well as the floor, pigsty, well and toilet, structures that were part of rural daily life.
