About Bob and Andy
Bob and Andy first bought holiday home in the Charente 12 years ago, as a haven from their busy careers in the UK (Bob as a company director in IT and Andy as a TV executive with the BBC). They soon fell under the spell of the region, and in 2016 the opportunity arose for them both to take early retirement and relocate to France. They had always dreamed of running a holiday business and after a year of searching the region, found their perfect property in Les Tilleuls which they bought at the start of 2017.
Why is Les Tilleuls the perfect holiday venue?
La Grange (sleeps 8) and Le Chai (sleeps 4) can be rented separately or together (with an interconnecting double door) offering great flexibility for couples, families and larger groups. Both properties have been tastefully renovated to retain original features but to incorporate all modern conveniences. Les Tilleuls is surrounded by 3.5 acres of landscaped gardens and meadow-land. Here you will find a stunning 12mx6m floodlit pool, boules pitch, badminton court and several shaded/covered terraces to enjoy.

Following on from our Summer holiday, we would like to thank Lesley and Derek for sharing their holiday home. We had a lovely familiy holiday in an ideal setting.
The accommodation was better than expected, everything had been thought of, especially the most welcome food parcel to help you settle into the first days of your holiday.
The setting could not be more ideal, very relaxing, perfect for lazy days around the pool.
Derek and Lesley were perfect hosts, thank you for a great holiday.
We wanted a relaxing break and this gite was truly the place to achieve that. The accommodation is of the highest quality and spotless throughout. The renovation of the distillery has been carried out extremely well retaining much of its original charm. The kitchen is superbly equipped and beds are very comfortable. The gardens are extensive and wonderful to relax in...with the added bonus of a pool.
The owners, Lesley and Derek are very helpful and welcoming.
We genuinely didn't want to leave...what better recommendation? We will return soon.

My family and I have just spent a wonderful week in la Grange, Les Tilleuls (July 2013). If you are looking for a peaceful place to relax in beautiful surroundings and with very welcoming (English speaking) hosts we highly recommend this place. The "gite" was very spacy and well-equipped. When we arrived, fresh bread, milk, eggs, jam, cheese and butter was to be found in the kitchen, the beds were nicely made and there were also towels for us – we felt very welcome. The lovely large garden had a nice pool surrounded by lavenders, beautiful flowers and all over the garden there were corners to relax and enjoy the views . There was a well-equipped pool house and a large area for ball-games. The TV had plenty of English channels and it was easy for our teenage boys to stay updated on "The Tour". In the gite there was also a folder on the area containing a list of local markets - and with the full equipped kitchen you could easily start your own French cooking - even baking paper was provided! For other shoppings than food we recommend trips to Saintes and Cognac. We also spent a nice day at the very sandy beach in Saint-Georges-de-Didonne and enjoyed wine and cognac-tastings in the neighbourhood.
It has really been a holiday with great pleasures - a happy memory when everyday life is back!

My family have just returned from a wonderfully relaxing break at The Grange. We stayed with Lesley and Derek last year in their other property Le Chai and this holiday surpassed the high standards set last year. The pool was so enjoyable to relax in and sunbathe by. The surroundings are so beautiful and The Grange was so well equipped we wanted for nothing.
On our first evening we had a delightful 3 course meal served by Lesley which was welcomed after a long drive. No need to cook or go out as a result of feeling tired.
The rooms in The Grange are tastefully decorated in typical french style and the beds were extremely comfortable promising a good nights sleep after active days. My son especially commented on the comfort of his bed - most unusual for a 15 year old!!!
We will definitely back both my husband and I love it here. We would have no hesitation in recommending this property. Lesley and Derek go to exteme lengths to make sure your holiday is perfect
I had a suspicion that this was going to be something rather special, and we weren't disappointed. Les Tilleuls is set in lovely countryside and surrounded by vineyards and undulating hills, about 5 minutes drive outside Pons. Originally a barn attached to a typical Charentaise farmhouse, it has been cleverly converted to provide four excellent bedrooms and large open-plan living space. Unlike may gites we have stayed in that provide only just enough of the essentials, Les Tilleuls has sofas and arm chairs galore, enough crockery, cutlery and utensils to host a large garden party, two sets of dining furniture (one indoors, one out), not to mention two barbecues!. The only thing missing was a teapot!
There are more pool toys, sets of boules and other toys/games equipment than a family could possibly use in a week, together with board games, books and dvds if the weather isn't kind. The pool is large and clean, and one of the most memorable aspects of our stay for our children was the nighttime swimming due to the fact that it is illuminated!
Pons (5 minute drive) is a pretty town with good amenities including supermarkets and a railway station - check out the €35 two day roving pass for 2 adults and 2 children which just proves how we're being right royally scr*wed here in the UK. The attractive square with impressive 'donjon' (or keep) and Hotel de Ville hosted a great night-time competition of local brass bands followed by a firework display whilst we were there, something that happens quite often by all accounts.
Jonzac is another interesting historic town within 20 minutes by car, with excellent restaurants and a water park with lots of outdoor activities for children.
One tip - if you're taking a laptop to use the wi-fi, stand with your back to the wall, behind the kitchen island looking out through the triple french doors out to the pool and the hill behind the house - the walls are very thick and this is the only place you'll pick up the network!
Our hosts, Derek and Lesley were very friendly and welcoming, and very relaxed. Derek is laid back, bordering on the horizontal, but always willing to help if necessary. We stayed with another family who also loved it, and I would unhesitatingly recommend Les Tilleuls if you're looking for a relaxing holiday.
Echebrune, with its beautiful hilltop XIth century church, is just 4 miles from the pretty town of Pons which, with its mediaeval keep and pilgrims hospital, provides supermarkets, banks, post office, bars and restaurants and a twice weekly market. Les Tilleuls is also conveniently situated for the old town of Cognac with the famous houses of Hennessy, Martell, Remy Martin, etc offering fascinating guided tours of their cognac distilleries which, of course, include tastings! The Roman town of Saintes, with its Roman amphitheatre and bustling shopping centre, is also very close by as are the beautiful beaches around the resort town of Royan. The pretty fishing ports of the Gironde estuary are within 30 minutes. For children, visit the renowned zoo at La Palmyre, discover the themed Chateau des Enigmes just down the road at Pons or enjoy a day at the ‘Antilles de Jonzac’ an enormous aqua playground of 10,000 sqm. Or just simply relax, explore the stunning surrounding villages and try some Pineau des Charentes, the local aperitif.
Other Activities: go-karting, quad-biking, canoeing, fishing, walking, horse riding, cycling
Golf: There are three 18 hole courses in easy reach of Les Tilleuls. The par 72 Golf du Cognac, located on the banks of the River Charente, is gently sloping and dotted with water hazards as it twists between vineyards and woodland. At Saintes, Golf de Saintonge is a rolling, par 68, wooded course which combines the pleasure of the game with some technical skill. A kilometre inland from the Cote de Beaute, in the heart of the Coubre Forest, lies Golf de Royan, a slightly narrower par 71, that gently follows the line of the sand dunes. All have buggies and clubs for hire.
