Headford Cottage is a beautiful townhouse, built of traditional Cotswold stone, and decorated to a high standard throughout. The cottage is located at the end of a row of cottages, on a private cul-de-sac, close to the heart of the beautiful market town of Stow-on-the-Wold. Sitting on top a hill, surrounded by the stunning Cotswold countryside, Stow is famous for its historic buildings and its wide range of restaurants, traditional pubs and antique shops. It is an ideal base for exploring the region, including the many beautiful towns and villages of the Cotswolds, as well as further afield places, such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford and Bath.

The owners of Headford Cottage have decorated and furnished the property in a lovely, warm style, which is complemented by its modern facilities, including wireless internet access, two flatscreen TVs, Netflix and Sky, and a well presented kitchen.

Headford Cottage sleeps a maximum of six people, in three bedrooms, with two bathrooms and a ground floor cloakroom. There is a lovely, private courtyard garden to the rear of the property and the cottage has two off street parking spaces. Headford Cottage is perfect for a family or a group of friends looking for a relaxing break in the heart of one of England's most beautiful market towns.

Delightful, clean and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at the Headford Cottage for a week. We appreciated that the Cottage is extremely clean and that the owners have taken great care to provide all the conveniences that make traveling easy. We were greeted with a tin of biscuits, bottle of milk, and bottle of wine, toothpaste, soap, etc., all of which we appreciated after a long transatlantic flight. The Cottage is the end unit at the end of a quiet street. The backyard abuts a farmed plot of land, which makes the Cottage even more quiet and private. We slept with the windows open at night and were never disturbed by any noise. The Cottage is within walking distance (5 minutes) of the village (Stow on the Wold), which has restaurants, a food store, morning newspapers and bakeries -- all very charming. I don't know how old the Cottage is, but the inside appears to be new, with a totally modern kitchen and bathrooms, and a large-screen TV with cable. The kitchen has everything a cook needs and is a good size with plenty of counter space, a large refrigerator, dishwasher and clothes washing machine. The living room/dining room are combined, and although neither is large they are both comfortable and big enough for a vacation property. All 3 bedrooms are on the second floor. As the name "cottage" implies, the bedrooms are small but serviceable. All 3 bathrooms (2 with showers and one with only a sink and toilet) are new and nicely appointed, although none of them is large. The Cottage has a small, very nice, private yard with a patio and patio furniture. All in all, it's a delightful, very clean, modern and quiet Cottage to return to at the end of a long day of sightseeing.

Other Activities:

Located in the north Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold is one of the principal market towns in the region. The main feature of the town is the historic market square which used to play host to the annual sheep fairs where, at the height of the Cotswold wool industry, up to 20,000 sheep were sold at one time.

The market square is steeped in history and has two features which date back to the medieval period. At one end of the square there is the medieval cross which was erected to urge traders to carry out fair business under the eyes of God, and at the far end stand the town stocks which are found in the shadows of the old elm tree.

Originally known as Edwardstow or Stow St Edward after the town's patron saint Edward, the town's church is also named after him. The church is just 100 yards from the town square and is a lovely place for locals and tourists alike to get some peace from the bustling market square. The north door is guarded by two yew trees and is a focal point of the town.

Stow has traditional narrow alleyways, or "tures" as they were once known, which wind their way through the centre of the town. It is these same alleyways that were once used to channel the sheep to the fair.

Another point of interest in the town is the well in Well Lane which is now a Grade II Listed Building. As a result of the rather unique geology of the area, water held in the higher layers of the limestone bursts out of various fissures on the slopes and two do still work as wells now.

Car: Stow is conveniently located at the junction of seven roads, including the A429 (Fosse Way), and is easily accessed by car.

Train: The nearest railway station to Stow is Moreton-in-Marsh (approximately 5 miles away), which has regular, direct services to London Paddington, with a typical journey time of approximately 90 minutes.

Plane: Birmingham International Airport: 45 miles, approximately 60 minute drive; Heathrow International Airport: 73 miles, approximately 90 minute drive; Bristol International Airport: 69 miles, approximately 90 minute drive
