Idyllic and peaceful surrouding in great location

  • 3 of 5

Gites and grounds lovely and great location. Marc is usually a pleasant and welcoming host. But ...

The listing says 2 bdrms & 2 bthms. Only 1 bdrm in each gite has a door. One gite has 2 bthrms, the others 1.5. We were asked to sign the contract and initial pages of the Ts & Cs. The latter was not attached to the email. I asked about this but Marc misunderstood and didn’t send the missing file.

We flew to Bordeaux and rented a car. We stopped briefly to collect groceries for breakfast and arrived 1.5 hours late, but had sent a text to let Marc know. On arrival he was polite but unhappy. He was going out and we had delayed him, for which we apologised. We soon realised that the ‘warm meal on arrival’ stated in his listing was not being offered, but were grateful for the bottle of wine (also in the listing). We noticed there were no towels or linen which the listing said were provided. Marc said we were mistaken, but they were available for 15 Euro per person. We assumed the mistake was ours & agreed.

In the morning we discovered the website said linen was provided. We went to Marc to pay our bill and showed him the listing. He said it was a mistake. We asked about the ‘warm dinner on arrival’. He apologised for that mistake and said he understood that we might be disappointed. He asked for a security bond of 700 Euros and cleaning bond of 70 Euros. We were surprised and apologised for not having it with us, and not remembering it. He was not happy. We said we would get cash that day and he agreed. The conversation returned to the linen, the contract and the Ts & Cs. We asked for a copy & realised we hadn’t seen it before so didn’t know about the bond, the linen fee, and cleaning the gite. Marc clearly blamed me for the mistake. It took an unpleasant 1.5 hours before we could escape.

Marc gave us a few eggs from his chickens and a nice gift on departure. Every time we saw Marc he discussed the ‘linen’ mistake. The gites are listed on several sites. On the homeaway site a week later it remains unchanged. On our departure, after he inspected the gite for damage and cleanliness, he refunded our bond and again asked if we would pay for the linen. The answer was ‘no’. Marc thinks we owe him 60 Euros. We paid 100 Euros (for a meal out) and did 70 Euros worth of cleaning - neither expected.

This is the first time I’ve given a less than positive review for accommodation. I recommend a stay at La Mouynarie, as long as you are clear about the costs and services

  • 5 of 5

Bien cordialement, Marc.

Quiétude en pleine nature

  • 5 of 5

On s'y sent bien.

  • 5 of 5

Trop bien

  • 5 of 5
