Overview

About the property

It located in the Historic Palace's most famous Posillipo.

A house should never be ON sea. THE sea has to be, to belong, so that the sea and the house can live together (Frank Lloyd Wright).

In extraordinarily convenient location and away from the metropolitan traffic, Figurehead House is located on the coast of the Posillipo hill, in direct contact with the sea of the Bay of Naples.

The owner, himself an architect, in restructuring the building was inspired by the phrase of the American master, creating a work in which the presence of the sea marks the domestic life.

The breath of the sea is always alive and present in every corner of the house; the choice of materials, all natural (volcanic stone, wood, hemp), and the organization of the spaces refer to the seafaring life.

Like a boat, the OPEN SPACE house develops vertically on four 'bridges'. From the entrance to the 'bridge 1' (first bath, kitchenette, living), it climbs up to the bedroom area, the 'Bridge 4', from 'bridge 2' with large panoramic windows overlooking the Gulf, Ovo, Vesuvius, Sorrento Coast, and then on the 'bridge 3' (double sofa bed, sofa bed, second bathroom) with the view of Mergellina.

From the apartment a private descent leads to the beach below, where in the summer season it is possible to sunbathe and swim in the sea of Posillipo.

Polena offers a free Kayak for guests free of charge during the summer free hiking trips along the coast, touching Villa Rosbery (Presidential residence), Gaiola and Sommerso Archaeological Park, Cala Trentaremi and Posillipo boss.

For those who do not want to roam, always in the beach below you can rent a sailor's boat in the summer season.

The area is served by bus, subway, tram, which allow you to easily reach the historical center, the museums hilly districts of Vomero and Chiaia.

A few hundred meters away is the Mergellina Maritime Terminal, with seasonal connections to Ischia, Capri, Sorrento, Aeolian Islands.

Easily reach the extraordinary archaeological sites of the Gaiola Underwater Park and the Roman Villa of Vedius Pollio in the Archaeological Park of Pausylipon, already effectively illustrated by Alberto Angela in the television program "Ulysses".

The most remarkable place I've ever stayed!!!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is located in one of Naples better know history buildings, in a Palace directly overlooking the sea. This makes the location absolutely unique -- a destination in itself. The only risk is you may prefer to just sit on the balcony and take in the view-- rather than heading in to Naples.

The apartment is spotless, and impeccably decorated, with new appliances and all the stuff you need. It's built on 4 levels which gives a unique feeling of being on a boat.

Finally, the owner Roberto is outstanding too! Friendly, hospitable and ( as an arquitect) knowledgeable about Naples and the Palace. He went out of our way to make us feel welcome, including a gift of champagne and pastries upon arrival. He loves the apartment and it shows!

On the whole an outstanding stay!!

Absolutely wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

We rented Roberto's apartment for a few days and we couldn't have been happier with the location, the amenities, the cleanliness and mainly the VIEW!! The apartment is so beautiful, it reflects the personality and the passion of the owner who is an architect. We were lucky enough to be able to assist to a conference he held where he narrated the history of Palazzo Donn'Anna, it was most informative and he also added tidbits for the pleasure of all the people attending. He is extremely knowledgeable and he enjoys answering questions about this historical place. He was always available if needed. We could walk to Via Caracciolo, the main thoroughfare by the water, and enjoy beautiful walks. Waking up in the morning looking at the sea just below us, and smell the sea enjoying a cup of espresso was to die for! Grazie Roberto for sharing your home with us. We hope to return soon. If I could give 10 stars I would!! This was as perfect a place as I could ever hope to find!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at 8 apartments over time in different locations, nothing ever compared to this!!! The location and the view could not be matched! The apartment is so gloriously beautiful that we all wanted to take the designer home with us to design our homes! The view and location were spectacular!!! You could see the entire by of Naples with Mt. Vesuvius, Sorrento, and Capri laid out directly in front of a beautifully preserved and historic building. The sunsets and sunrises we spectacularly beautiful. There is private parking with a security gate and guard. There were two lovely beaches on either side of the building and the food at the little restaurant across the street was some of the very best we had in Italy. We were close to the ferries and grocery and restaurants. The kitchen, bathrooms (2), bedrooms, and every space were furnished with such care and sense of design that one felt truly privileged to stay.

Roberto, the owner and host, was the most gracious of anyone we have ever had the pleasure of renting from before. He went out of his way to make our stay special and even gave us a history lesson on the amazing building and showed us its meeting hall. I cannot recommend this apartment highly enough! We loved every second and hated to leave the balcony for even a moment!!! I cannot wait to return -- already trying to plan to go back next year.

stunningly beautiful

  • 5 of 5

This apartment and the ancient castle in which it is situated is one of the true gems of Naples. The castle juts out into the Bay of Naples, looking just as it has for centuries. The apartment itself, ,however, is decidedly modern, tastefully appointed with contemporary fixtures and furniture. The fusion of antique and modern unfolds on the apartment's wonderful balcony overlooking the sea, a private beach and the city itself as it sweeps around the bay toward Mt. Vesuvius, the Amalfi Coast and the Isle of Capri. These wonderful accommodations were underscored by the graciousness of our host, Roberto, a prominent Neapolitan architect and a font of classical Italian history. Besides greeting us upon our arrival and helping us settle in, Roberto gave us a personal tour of the entire castle, its expansive art studio and the basement boat terminal where castle guests arrived by sea for centuries before there were adequate roads. Unfortunately we were able to stay only two nights in Naples but the apartment's wonderful location, on the sea, isolated from the bustle of the inner city with grocery stores, restaurants and public transportation literally at our doorstep, was ideal for exploring the city.

Owner's Response: Peg and Frank, due ospiti gentili e raffinati. E' stato un vero piacere accoglierli a Napoli e a Donn'Anna. L'unico rammarico è quello di un soggiorno troppo breve per le numerose occasioni che Napoli offre. See you Peg, see you Frank.

NAPOLI INSOLITA E SEGRETA

  • 5 of 5

A recommander chaudement.

"... per vedere la bellezza, bisogna avere occhi aperti, occhi curiosi che aspettano che accada qualcosa, occhi che credono che la bellezza esista". (Pier Paolo Pasolini)
