Great villa with fantastic views. Pool is perfect.

  • 5 of 5

Great holiday enjoyed by all. Car a definite requirement and the access road takes a couple of runs to get used to - watch out for the sheep and goats!

Wasps not a problem - a bit annoying at times but nothing more. No midges either but I suspect the recent fires on the island kept them away.

The space in the villa is great, the basement bedroom and games/chill out zone perfect for kids. Could do with a few extras such as BBQ equipment but overall couldn't fault it.

Some good restaurants in Skala particularly those off the beaten track.

Consierge great, particularly the fact Mark and Graham met us as the airport (even at 10.30 pm) gave us all details including step by step directions. Graham called by next day with some pointers as to things to do. Turtles in Argostoli harbour were the highlight.

Fabulous Villa In A Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived we knew we had made a good choice. The villa is almost brand new and very well appointed, mixing modern furnishings with a wonderful warm atmosphere. We visited in autumn and although we were lucky with great weather for most of our stay, we did have one rainy day when we got to make the most of the comfy sofas and excellent relaxed lighting to while away the hours reading. The basement games/sitting room is perfect for larger groups where the kids want their own space and the covered veranda was a godsend for those of us who wanted to enjoy the amazing views but need shade from the sun. The views are to die for and the pool was fantastic (although it is unheated so was a bit bracing this late in the season). With the restaurants and bars of Skala, Katelios and Old Skala within a few minutes drive and three lovely beach areas on hand too we were spoilt for choice for things to do day and evening. The wifi connection was very good and the only item of equipment we had an issue with was the dishwasher, but the maintenance teams response was prompt. We loved it so much we will be returning.

Brilliant Villa - Shame About The Wasps

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful well equipped villa with lots of space for 8. The views are fantastic and well worth being a little bit off the beaten track.

The cleaner was really good, changing towels every 2/3 days and bedding in the middle of our stay.

Graham and Mark from Kefalonia Vacation Services greeted us at the airport. They were very helpful when the hire cars we had organised didn't turn up. Graham even took us back into Argostoli the following day to pick up a car. Brilliant service from them.

The wasp situation did spoil the holiday somewhat as we felt that we had to go out at times when normally we would have just sat around the pool. The problem seems to be environmental as it was so hot and the wasps needed somewhere to get fresh water from. It didn't help that the air conditioning units were not plumbed in correctly, the wasps seemed to swarm around the dripping water. It, also, meant that eating on the patio at lunchtime was impossible. The wasps did tend to disappear by 7.30 on an evening enabling us to BBQ.

Wasp situation spoilt it.

  • 2 of 5

-Beautiful location with fantastic views.

-Excellent layout.

-Well equipped (although need mirrors in each bedroom and an outside shower to use before entering the pool).

-Cleaned to a high standard by friendly staff (although pool could've done with cleaning more).

-Lack of/no water for first few days was very stressful and spoilt the start to the holiday (this was resolved with a new pump).

They were constantly around the overflow pipes for the air conditioning which were situated beside the pool and on upstairs balconies. They were around the edges of the pool, especially the ladder and steps and appeared to be particularly attracted when people were in the pool and there was water movement. At times there would easily be 40 plus! They didn't appear to be "after us" but just by being around them 5 out of 6 of us got stung (painfully and some more than once) over the two week period including our 6 year old. We asked for help multiple times and were given a couple of suggestions (burn Greek coffee/place tubs of water around) but nothing more. They also entered the basement and ground floor bedrooms by the air conditioning. At one point there were over a dozen in the basement bedroom (crawling on the beds, furniture and floor as well as flying) making it unusable. Family members in the ground floor bedroom were woken by them in their hair and on their pillows and subsequently stung. Thankfully this problem was resolved by a little piece of netting being placed over the air conditioning overflow pipes for those rooms. Their presence also made it impossible to eat outside and sit on the upstairs balconies.

We understand and accept that this is an environmental (and possibly seasonal) problem BUT it is a major problem nonetheless and when you carefully search, plan, look forward and countdown to (and pay a lot of hard earned money for) your holiday it is VERY disappointing.

We are a calm family who carried on regardless and had a lovely holiday because we made it lovely holiday but it could've been SO much better.

We felt we had to give this honest review because if people have very young children or are allergic to wasps stings this situation would be unbearable.

If we hadn't experienced the water and wasp problems I have no doubt our review would've be 5 stars, sadly this wasn't the case.

impressive villa with breathtaking views

  • 4 of 5

We have just returned from a two week break at this lovely villa. Although only four of us, we booked this four bedroom villa, as we wanted the extra space. It did have plenty of space inside and outside and we were spoilt for choice regarding the views you had overlooking the ocean and countryside. However, we were slightly disappointed with the basement bedroom, which looked lovely in the pictures, but was in fact in a very dark and damp feeling cellar with no windows. I would not have liked to spend my two weeks in this bedroom.

The villa itself was very well equipped for but an extra set of towels or tea towels would have been nice, as they were only changed twice ( in the first week) during our two week stay. I would have been very happy washing them myself if there would have been a spare set in the villa.

The location of the villa was perfect, not too far from Skala where you can find plenty of lovely tavernas to enjoy the local cuisine. The local beach, with a wonderful sandy beach (ideal for children) is also only a very short distance down the hill from the villa. However, a car is absolutely essential as there is nothing within easy reach on foot. We found driving on the island very easy and the roads are actually very good and well signposted. Don’t use a satnav as you might end up on a road that is not meant for driving a car!

There are some good supermarkets in Skala, where you can find everything you need, if you want to enjoy your own food on the lovely terrace. The only thing we found with eating by the villa was the problem with wasps. We didn’t have them anywhere else, so maybe there is a nest nearby. We also felt that there might be a problem with rats, as we found three dead ones by the pool area during our stay.

However, we all had a really nice time at this villa and would certainly recommend it to others.

Ratzakli is a small peacefull village at 4 kms of the animation of Skala. The sandy beaches of Kaminia and Mouda make allow families to slacken.

Water goes down soft inclined what allows to the children to splash in all security. It is on these beaches as sea turtles "Caretta Caretta" come to lay eggs.
