My name is Helen Smith and I am an English woman who has lived in Italy for 24 years. My husband is Italian and we have two sons who are 14 and 16 and who are bilingual. We used to live in Silvi Marina but moved some years ago to Umbria for our work. We manage a luxury 5 star property near Perugia and so we have a lot of experience in what people look for and need when on holiday. The apartment is managed my our English friend, Charlotte, who has also lived in Italy for many years. She has a wide knowledge of the area and will be able to help you with anything you need and will also be able to advise you as to where to visit and what to do.
Helen Smith purchased this apartment in 2008
I feel that Abruzzo is still an 'unexplored' region of Italy, waiting to be discovered. When you stay at our apartment, you will have the advantage of the beach and sea on your doorstep, but with the mountain area waiting for you to venture out to. It is so much fun along the beach front which is lively and fun, in contrast to the peace and stunning scenery of the inland open spaces. I am sure you will fall in love with Abruzzo, as I have done.
As you enter the apartment, the front glass wall will make you feel like you are on an enormous ship out to sea. The roof garden is spacious and well furnish and you can sit up there and have dinner in the evenings , looking far out to sea.

Silvi Marina is a bustling seaside resort which boasts many bars restaurants and award winning ice cream parlors, all in walking distance. The flat is right on the waterfront and next to a sailing club where it is possible to do sailing lessons, wind-surfing and other water sport activities. Every Thursday morning there is a lively and extensive street market along the street in front of the apartment. AcquaFun water park is a twenty minute drive away. On the hill at the back of the town is Silvi Alta, an ancient hamlet with a stunning view of the Adriatic coast. Abruzzo is one of the very few regions in Italy where you can enjoy both the beach and skiing. From the roof garden, you can just see the tip of the highest mountain of the ridge of mountains that runs down the back bone of Italy - The Gran Sasso (The big Stone) which is 2912 metres high. The ski resorts are within 45 minutes. Driving inland, the region is rich in stunning natural scenery with the rolling hills and mountains of the National Park of Abruzzo where you can go hiking, mountain biking, skiing, cycling, horse riding and do alpinismo. Visiting some of the many historical towns such as Sulmona, Scanno and Rocca Calascio is a must. The cuisine of Abruzzo is one of the best in the country. For a cheap and fast meal, you can try 'arrosticini' which are little pieces of lamb on a little wooden skewers and roasted over hot coals. You can go to dinner in one of the many farm restaurants (agriturismo) where the food is home grown and home cooked and the meal is never ending. Along the coast you can eat some of the best seafood in Italy. The wines of Abruzzo are also world famous and you can go on a wine tour and taste Montepulciano D'Abruzzo, Pecorino and Trebbiano. During the summer months, all towns and villages hold street food festivals which are a must. In the apartment there is a leaflet of what is going on. Pescara, not considered a tourist attraction, is a lively young city with a vast variety of shops. The old part of the town is the best area for a lively night life where you can drink in the street bars, eat and listen to live music. Abruzzo is a region waiting to be explored. Much of the wonderful scenery can be seen in the film 'The American' staring George Clooney.
