Named one of the top 15 villas in the Caribbean by both Ocean Home and Islands magazines, but an extremely economical alternative to a resort. Almost all 5 star villas on Anguilla have marketing firms. As the owner of the Bird of Paradise, we're able to offer you rates at least 30% below comparable villas.
For gathering together, there is an interior living room with wet bar, an exterior living area with fireplace, a sundeck, and a covered veranda as well as hidden hideaways on this extremely private and secure property.
Sandy Hill Beach
This is a hidden hideaway. It took us a year to find what we believe is a perfect location on Anguilla. It's a crescent beach with panoramic views of the mountains of St. Barths and St. Maarten. It's excellent for swimming, snorkeling and walking. We do, however, encourage our guests to beach hop and each day your housekeeper will give you a newsletter from Jon and me with our suggestions for what to do on Anguilla based on our 30+ years of visiting. The island is 30 square miles and has 32 beaches.
Designed in an Asian tropical style with not one, but two lagoon-style pools surrounded by lush landscape. It's very rare to have a heated pool on Anguilla because of the high cost of electricity. Each of the pools has a swim-up ledge/bar for panoramic views.
Each of the four master suites has its own private veranda and an equal view of the Caribbean. No one is cheated! They're each equipped with a credenza and a hidden bar/coffee service for added comfort and privacy. An office can be set up as a nursery or 5th bedroom. Bathrooms vary, but include whirlpool tubs, indoor/outdoor showers, dressing tables, walk-in closets, and more. Note: a partnership with a nearby villa allows Bird of Paradise to accommodate up to 24 guests.
Services and Amenities
Bird of Paradise Villa offers all the spaciousness and comforts of a well-equipped home, but all the services and amenities of a resort. Standard services include a private concierge; daily housekeeping; and Jose will set up your beach chairs and umbrellas. Packages available which include car and driver, chef, food, and beverage. Scroll down for details.
Bvlgari amenities, bathrobes, hair dryers, beach bags, beach toys, a 100+ DVD library, flat screen TVs, cell phone, Wi-Fi, phone calls to North America and Europe are all standard.
The kitchen is fully-equipped with everything from a Kohler Pro-Task Center sink, wok, deep fryer to a KitchenAid mixer if you enjoy cooking.
Having a chef for a welcome Caribbean barbecue is wonderful after a day of traveling. I'd add on a sumptuous brunch the first morning, too. Bird of Paradise offers rates without a chef, but we are only one of 7 villas on Anguilla that have a chef on retainer, so we can offer you the very best pricing. If you go to a 3-4 star villa and want to add on a chef, expect to pay up to $400 for a single dinner, plus a service charge on all food and beverage and $12/hour for a server. Our rates with a chef are exceptional and we have no service charge for purveying food and beverage and the butler/server is included.
Rates on Homeaway are for our Basic 5 Star Package and 8 guests. Please note prices will be lower with fewer guests as we give back our savings in housekeeping and utilities when fewer suites are used. Entire villa, of course, will be exclusively for you. Below is a description of four sample packages or contact me to create your own.
Concierge to make all on-island arrangements and meet you outside of Customs. Daily housekeeping. Beach attendant to set up chairs and umbrellas. Bulgari amenities, Italian linens and everything as described above.
In addition to the "basic" package, have a car and driver transport you to/from the villa on arrival and departure. Chef Kylon will greet you with a welcome cocktail party. Food and beverage is included. Chef Kylon and your butler Tristan will return each day and prepare you your choice of a breakfast, lunch or dinner. Food not included.
Add on chef and butler for a second meal each day.
Chef services for 3 meals a day. Rental car(s) also included.
I look forward to telling you more,
Jon and I worked for an arm of the State Department and traveled the world for business. We always were on the hunt for the perfect beach. Anguilla is a winner! We moved from Washington, DC, and now live in Wisconsin.
Melody Brooks Dill purchased this villa in 2005
After visiting Anguilla for 25+ years, we decided to build and completed the villa in 2006. It took a year to find what we think is the perfect location. We sit above the extremely private, perfect crescent beach of Sandy Hill Bay, a hidden jewel. We love the east end of the island because it's not touristy, but also because we get great trade winds. For Jon, it was important not to look into a black hole of darkness at night (Atlantic side of the island is west). He wanted to be on the Caribbean side (east end) to see the lights of St. Barths and St. Maarten in the evening.
We had traveled with friends and family for many years renting homes. Jon and I ALWAYS picked the short straw and got the worst room in the house with no view. When we built the Bird of Paradise, we made sure we had all master suites, all with a private verandah, and all with a view!
The Bird of Paradise is positioned so it's extremely private and protected, with panoramic views from every room as well as from the swim-up ledges of the two swimming pools.
Although, the villa was designed by Wilson Associates, resort designers, that have created Armani, Four Season, and numerous Ritz Carlton resorts, the Bird of Paradise was created as a private home. Guests often remark how they feel so comfortable and can quickly and easily relax in the private, home-like setting.
The villa showcases our Oceanic art collection, which we've collected on travels to Papua New Guinea, Borneo, Solomons and beyond. There are numerous books on the subject.
We booked this home with several friends for a very special occasion (50th birthday), and had the absolutely most amazing vacation. The home is as beautiful in person (maybe more so) than the photos, there is such attention to detail, and it is maintained with such care. The house comes with a fantastic staff, and is so smartly designed for entertaining. The bedrooms are pretty evenly balanced, so each of our guests were very happy with where they stayed. The property managers are very attentive and helpful, and the home comes with a chef that makes beautifully prepared meals. The other household staff is very friendly, and they keep everything together whether it's keeping Frette towels available for swimming, or the bedrooms in perfect order. As mentioned, there is such eye for detail, and the home has many interesting artifacts collected from travels around the world...as well as pretty planted flowers, and native plants. We could not recommend a stay more highly. Go and ENJOY!
The Bird or Paradise in Anguilla is even more beautiful than what we expected from the online photographs. We traveled with 3 other couples, flew into St. Martin and took a boat over to Anguilla, arranged by the concierge. We were met at the dock and driven to the Bird. After a long day of travel, we enjoyed the magnificent view of turquoise waters and warm breeze as the chef prepared drinks and delicious island cuisine to welcome us to Anguilla. We had the villa to ourselves and it was wonderful. Attention is paid to every detail from the Bulgari bath products to the cheerful and helpful staff. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The chef prepared breakfast every morning, and then we hopped around the island enjoying beaches, beach bars and restaurants at Mead's Bay, Sandy Ground, Shoal Bay and Crocus Bay. A member of our group enjoyed driving--this is a British island, so one drives on the left--but we were told the Bird has a personal driver available for future guests. The Bird's beach is only a 5 minute walk and we were also happy to swim and lounge there. We would recommend Scilly Cay for lobster and crayfish, Straw Hat for dinner, Bankie Banx for drinks and music, Elvis for drinks, and Blanchards Beach Bar and DaVida for lunch and the Pump Hose for music and dancing. St. Bart's is only 15 minutes by private plane and makes a fun midweek day excursion. We would highly recommend the Bird of Paradise and Anguilla. Pack lightly because it's a very casual island.
This was our fourth trip to the Bird and it did not disappoint. It was spectacular. The Chef was responsive to our dietary needs, and his artistic presentations were beyond our expectations. The staff, as in the past, we're friendly and helpful when needed and had the property in perfect condition. Having traveled to Anguilla for 30years, and experiencing many villas and hotels, our family is now spoiled by the Bird of Paradise and will not stay anywhere else on the island.
The island of Anguilla is 30 square miles with 32 beaches so all activities are not far away. Bird of Paradise villa is positioned on a perfect crescent beach, which is excellent for walking, snorkeling, fly-fishing, and whale-watching in season.
Nearby is Savannah Bay, the longest beach on Anguilla. Also close is Shoal Bay, Crocus Bay, and fun excursions are to the islands Scilly Cay and Scrub island. Within 2 miles is Island Harbor, a great jumping off point for deep sea fishing.
Heritage museum is 1/2 mile away.
Dancing and late night music is at Sandy Ground, a 10-15 min drive.
Major resorts and beaches of Rendez-vous Bay and Meads Bay are 20 mins.
