About the property

Charming rustic property in secluded residence complete with original wooden beams. The 100 year old residence was originally a hotel up to the 1970's and was subsequently converted into individual apartments, studios and mews . Situated on the roof of the first floor, our house and terrace is surrounded by a beautiful balustrade. All main rooms open onto the terrace with views of mountains and mature gardens. There is a magnificent pool and kiddies pool. Private parking. Walking distance from Golf club, restaurants, shops and tennis, three miles from beautiful old town of St. Raphael and four miles from historic Frejus and 5 miles from charming village of Agay with its long sandy beach and little coves with restaurants dotted along the way. Traveling by car the property is approximately 45 minutes from Nice Airport, 25 minutes from Cannes on one side, St. Maxime and St. Tropez on the other. Furnished with fully fitted kitchen, bathroom/shower. Chairs and loungers on terrace' Although we have no air conditioning we have just installed ceiling fans in the two bedrooms. With the number of doors and windows in the apartment it is surprisingly airy.

This area is lush with vineyards - you can drop in to any of them.

Golfers choice: There are at least thirty golf courses within a one hour drive of the property with varying degrees of difficulty.

About TONY & DENISE BROPHY

My wife Denise (who is an artist) and I used to bring the kids camping to France over the years. We spent many wonderful holidays in campsites all over France but particularly loved the South of France.

When I retired although my wife still works we had more time and decided to try and buy a small place in the St.Raphael area, an area we had come to really love during our camping holidays in the South of France.

TONY & DENISE BROPHY purchased this apartment in 2003

Why TONY & DENISE BROPHY chose Esterel - Fayence

When we came across the apartment in Valescure we literally fell in love with it. It is unique with so much character and is in such a beautiful and tranquil setting. It has everything we were looking for. It also has an amazing history since it was originally a hotel and was converted to apartments about forty years ago.

We consider ourselves so lucky to have it. We now have two grandchildren and our kids love it as it is ideal for couples with small children.

What makes this apartment unique

Spectacular private terrace of about 150 sq. metres surrounding apartment: old world charm with modern amenities: gated residence with private secure parking: manicured gardens;

45 minutes from Nice airport, 30 minutes from Cannes, five minutes from the nearest beach (by car) in Saint Raphael. Restaurants /shops / medical / pharmacy/ boulangerie etc withing walking distance.

Two beautiful pools one of which is pool for very small children tastefully located within gardens;

Tennis and golf within walking distance;

Lots of places to see including Massif de L'Esterel, Frejus Cathedral (Frejus is an old Roman town), Ile d'Or etc and further afield the famous Gorges de Verdun.

'A little piece of heaven on earth'

  • 5 of 5

This rustic mews is a

'little piece of heaven on earth' situated outside Nice.

It is so quaint. We really enjoyed staying here. We loved the fact that the entire place is surrounded by balcony. We ate breakfast outside every morning.

The pool is gorgeous and the beach in A'gay is 5/8 minutes away by car. We ate lunch in the restaurants right on the beach which was just fabulous.

We would definitely recommend this mews and We will most certainly be returning.

Six Months at "Rustic Mews"

  • 5 of 5

Looking for "peace in paradise" well look no more! Hidden amongst the pine trees we found this wonderful independently situated, spotlessly clean, full of character, apartment with amazing views and to our delight a huge terrace which surrounded the entire apartment where we could enjoy outside dining even in winter. There is a large swimming pool and (a small pool for small children) in a private garden

Where we spent many happy hours sunning, swimming, reading. This apartment "has it all". For those seeking sporting pursuits there is golf, tennis and wonderful country walks in lush surroundings. The sea is 15 minutes away by car where every type of water sport can be found. We also found a good choice of restaurants nearby and the convenience of the local centre commercial catered for all our daily needs - all within easy reach.

The location of this wonderful apartment was so impressive that we are considering spending our winter breaks as well as our annual Summer holidays there - again and again. We have named it "paradise under the stars"

The owners are lovely friendly people and provided excellent information. St raphael and frejus are very close by and by car st tropez takes approximately forty-five minutes by car and by boat 30 minutes. There is a main train station in st raphael with excellent connections to cannes and monaco and the surrounding areas. This property has secure private parking, internet access (WiFi) and cable TV.

We have highly recommended it to our friends and family. Now we need not to delay booking our next holiday as vacancies are limited and weeks fill up fast. "rustic mews" is an unforgettable place to stay.

John from Dublin

  • 5 of 5

I have just stayed here for the past three months and enjoyed every single day of my stay. This is a unique place and no words or photographs will do it justice. The property is so full of charm with a wonderful history and many very famous people have stayed here. The overall property has been wonderfully restored to it's former glory and offers everything you would possibly require - and much more. There is a wonderful feeling of space and light and magnificent pool and gardens to enjoy with utter tranquility while also offering the visitor such immediate access to wonderful beaches and historic towns. You should seriously consider this property and talk to the charming owners who are such a pleasure to deal with. Sincerely yours, John

Our week at Rustic mews, Valescure in Sept 08

  • 4 of 5

The apartment is part of an impressive building, a former grand hotel. It is spacious for 4 persons and has an impressive terrace with a big table which we used for almost all meals. The appartment is well equipped with furniture, stereo and beds, linen, towels, etc. Furthermore one can use the big and beautiful pool.

The location is very quiet and quite a bit off the beaten track. If you play golf it is the ideal place to go. Most of the other residents there are Fench, of age 55+ and there only for their holidays. You need a car in order to enjoy the nice beaches in Saint Raphael, Frejus or see St. Tropez, Cannes, Nice, etc.

Only constraint was the lack of thorough cleaniliness of the apartment. It needed some extra hoovering (dust and cobwebs), the kitchen was greasy and a little run down and actually needs replacement or serious renovation. If you enjoy cooking or have smaller children, I would ask if something has happened here since summer 08. However, we liked the place and would recommend it.

Absolutely fantastic!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in rustic mews. The apartment is perfect, the terrace which runs round the little house is wonderful, we spent many hours enjoying the quiet, the view and the breeze. The pool is great, there are other children there, but for those travelling without children also perfect. We felt very much at home and will definitely return. We were sad to leave.

Another positive feature is the fact that one feels that people live in the house. The whole apartment has a personal touch and is very well equipped.

Contact with Tony was easy, polite and very helpful.

Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

Car: recommended

Between Cannes and St.Tropez, St.Raphael is a beautiful area with a stunning coastline, in particular the drive from St.Raphael to Cannes is in my view unmatched within the Cote d`Azur. The Cap Esterel separates St.Raphael from Cannes ie a hilly area heavily wooded and with stunning red rock.

The town of St.Raphael is a thriving commercial town but with great charm - ideal both for shopping but with many interesting attractions. The old town of Frejus, just 10 mins by car is stunning and full of character with its Roman remains etc.

There are many vineyards within 30 minutes drive of St.Raphael.

Golf: This is a glorious golfing and tennis area. There are two golf courses in the immediate area and at least thirty more within a one hour drive. The green fees are quite reasonable ie in the region of €70 to €80 per round. The Valescure Golf Club is the oldest in the Var established in 1895 and is full of charm. There is also a nine hole golf course more suitable for beginners golf as well as a driving range.

The two courses in the immediate area (Valescure and Esterel) are interesting with lots of trees to catch the wayward drive and plenty of challenging water features around the greens. Then of course there is the 19th.

In high season it is preferable to tee off relatively early due to the heat. Buggies can also be hired.
