Located east of Orvieto, “La Selciata” is situated on a “garden-terrace” from which you can enjoy a unique and exceptional view of the Etruscan city and its cathedral built by Pope Leo XIII. It has an extensive highland behind where for centuries vines have been cultivated thanks to the microclimate and the volcanic earth.
The name of the house derives from the presence on its land of a “selciata” or paving stone of a Roman road (circa 260 B.C.) that connected Orvieto to Rome, still partly visible.
The enclosed garden was designed by the British architect Peter Curzon and is framed by mature oaks that give welcome shade in summer. It has native plants and trees such as elaeagnus, viburnum, bay, spiraea and cypress. The private 5 x 10 metre swimming pool, fully equipped with sunbeds and cane chairs, is behind a small, rose-covered slope, The house, recently renovated, is full of family mementoes and has all the comforts of home as well as many special features such as fireplace, handmade terracotta tiles, parquet in the bedrooms (cool in the summer) and en-suite bathrooms. It has exposed beams and old coloured old doors.
Walking or bicycle excursions can be organized at extra costs; thematic tours and archaeological areas as well as exclusive visits to the excavations (Campo della Fiera) or to small museums (Museo Faina or Museo dell’Opera del Duomo); visits can also be organised to the Cathedral with its exceptional frescoes by Luca Signorelli and Beato Angelico, executed fifty years before the Sistine Chapel, and its crypt with its sarcophagi, in the footsteps of the famous “Grand Tour” that the English took in the 18th century to perfect their classical studies. Orvieto has numerous churches and historical, art and architectural treasures, as well as natural attractions such as the Oasi di Alviano, or underground wells and columbarium. And last but not least there is the local cuisine renowned for its gourmet quality, as well as wine tastings in the many wineries in the area.

We just completed 10 unforgettable days at La Selciata with our kids and grandkids. The country home was just as beautiful as promised and accommodated the 6 of us in comfort and spaciousness with both indoor and outdoor spaces for gracious living. The owner, Giovanni, is personable and helpful, making himself available via phone or email to address any issue. Daniella manages the property and is delightful, eager and willing to assist in any and every way. She is thoughtful and anticipates needs and even baked a cake and brought in fresh fruit for our arrival. We needed assistance when our rental car failed. Daniella showed up in 15 minutes to take us to the train station. The pool and yard are maintained daily. This is a wonderful location, private and yet just minutes from Orvieto's sightseeing, restaurants and shopping. The nearby train station connects with Rome and Florence. We have been in Italy multiple times, but this has been our favorite spot because of its comfort, privacy, location, cleanliness, and responsiveness of the owner and staff. Excellent on all categories, perfect for adults and families?

We very much enjoyed our 2+ week stay at La Scelciata. Giovanni (the owner) and Daniella (the housekeeper and cook) were very hospitable and responsive. The property is as represented in the pictures and the location is very private. It is also within easy access to Orvieto, other villages and sites, the grocery store and the highway (for day trips to other towns and lakes, this is very practical). We very much enjoyed our stay and made many wonderful memories at La Selciata. Thank you, Giovanni, Daniella and Benedetto for helping us feel at home!
We enjoyed a fantastic week. The view of Orvieto from the garden is simply stunning. The villa is traditional, but well furnished with lots of places to sit in the garden to enjoy the views & Italian sunshine with a glass of wine. The owner Giovanni was friendly and really helpful in recommending places to see & eat out.
We also fell in love with Orvieto & enjoyed exploring the small streets, shops & restaurants in the cooler evenings. Had a great time!!
Within close distance of beautiful Orvieto, this villa offers you the space, privacy and views that will make your stay unforgetable.
The house offers all necessary equipment and space to have a comfortable stay. The garden is spacious and the pool is great, but the view is something you will remember.
On top of that the housekeeper is extremely helpful and friendly and the owner goes the extra mile to make the best of your stay.
Therefore you can't go wrong with this place, unless you are NOT looking for a nice and relaxing holiday. It's up to you!

The handicraft is essential part of economic social fabric with ceramic, the embroider, the work of wood. Really, many are the restaurants where is possible to eat excellent Umbrian dish . It is possible to organize at extra cost short trip by bycicle, cultural excurtions, archeological and naturalistic (bird wathching) trips also overnight with English guide.
Many and many are the beauty places which can be reached in a day car trip in Tuscany and Umbria.
