Phaistos villas is a complex of three stone-built villas, each given a name from Greek mythology: the Muse Erato and the Nymphs Dafne and Kastalia. The complex, situated at the foot of the village, offers a panoramic view of the Messara valley and the distinctive blue of the south Cretan sea in the distance.
This peaceful location can become your springboard for exploring the historical sites and places of unique beauty in the area. You can choose between staying in and relaxing around the pool, hopping off on a few minutes drive to the world famous archaeological site of Phaistos, or enjoying the wonderful golden-sand beaches of Matala and Kalamaki. The serenity of the environment, the dry and healthy climate of the area as well as the local food specialities guarantee an unforgettable stay.
The complex was constructed using authentic materials by local craftsmen following the traditional architecture of rural Crete in order to perfectly blend in with the environment and be an integral part of the settlement. The three villas were built in different levels offering independency, privacy and uninterrupted views of the surroundings. A lovely 40m2 pool of 1,5m depth situated in the center of the complex, can be enjoyed by guests of all three villas.
Each villa was designed with care to offer its guests every possible modern amenity.
The villas can be rented individually or can be booked together to accommodate bigger parties.
Phaistos Villas is just a fifty minutes’ drive from Heraklion International Airport "N. Kazantzakis" to the south of Crete, at the outskirts of the picturesque village of Sivas.
The drive from Heraklion takes you through the biggest Cretan wine-growing district of Archanes and the big archaeological excavation called Agia Deka and Gortys. Gortys is one of the most important historical towns in Crete with a history of 6,000 years and one of the most extensive archaeological sites in Greece. It was the site of the first human habitation of Crete at the end of the Neolithic period (5th millennium B.C.)
Every villa is spread over two levels. The top level has two stylish, high beam-ceilinged bedrooms and a large modern bathroom with shower facility. The muted colours add to the light, airy and relaxed atmosphere.
On the ground floor there is a fully equipped open planned kitchen with stylish and relaxing dining and sitting area. Comfort and amenities include free WiFi access, satellite TV and DVD player, air conditioning every bedroom and sitting area, WC at ground floor area, outdoor dinning and sitting area, security system, fully equipped kitchen, washing machine, sun-beds and pool towels.
High chair and cot for infants may be provided upon request.
It combines the traditional village surroundings with high quality amenities.
Ideally situated at the foothill of a traditional village far from the noisy beach bars but very close to a number of beautiful beaches.
In the village with the restaurants and markets close but right on the outskirts enjoying a beautiful view.
A sight for tired eyes was the beautiful and traditional built Phaistos Villas appearing on the brim of the hill as you enter Sivas a small but perfectly formed Cretan Village.
The villas in the south of the island will take just over an hours drive from Heraklion. Roads are basic and windy and hiring a car is essential for this trip and any additional exploring you may do. Do visit Matala and see the caves made famous by Joni Mitchell.
A complex of three independent villas sharing a sizable pool. Villas sleep four and can be booked individually or complete for exclusive use.
Each villa named after Greek mythology is individually decorated and contains all mod cons expected from a luxury self catering villa... there is an exclusive outdoor terrace (two of which are shaded) and balconies from the bedrooms on the first floor of each of the villas.
You are welcomed by the multi lingual, friendly and helpful Heike who points you in the right direction on how to use all the appliances. She points out the welcome pack of Cretan Wine and Water a refreshing start to the vacation after your flight, ferry and or drive.
Kitchen has full sized oven, hob, fridge freezer and dishwasher. Bathroom holds the washing machine also an outdoor dryer to hang washing. Downstairs loo and upstairs bathroom with shower. All beautifully appointed. The bedrooms have lots of storage and spare pillows and duvets if required. Pool towels are provided and there is a mid week laundry change and clean. Bathroom soap dishes are full and toilet roll is there however replacements during your stay is your responsibility (ideally essentials like this in luxurious rentals would be covered by the owners rather than guests... they did replace for us) Air Conditioning will work while doors and windows are closed. If open I recommend using the screens to avoid the irritating mosquitos from entering.
Sivas is the most traditional Cretan village, perfect and non commercial over the hill to the right where you will find four tavernas, mini supermarket as well as a ceramic shop and more. It can be busy with tourists from surrounding area. Food is traditional and we never had a bad meal... English is widely spoken and understood. The local drink unlike other Greek Islands is not Ouzo but Raki a very nice Brandy like drink placed on your table like a condiment at the start of your meal and your taverna owner will produce a shot of Raki at the end of your meal.
We stayed for 7 nights in Villa Phaistos (Erato). The villa is absolutely fantastic, it looks exactly like in the photos. It is spacious, clean and well equipped. The pool area is lovely for sunbathing and you have a view of the ocean in the distance. The lounge area is very comfortable and there is plenty of space for dining both inside and out. Having a BBQ was also lovely for the nights we wanted to stay in and cook ourselves.
The shower was great - very powerful and hot. The kitchen is very well equipped. Nice towels are provided for both the shower and pool. All the luxuries you could expect to find in a 5 star hotel!
The owners and manager were extremely responsive, friendly and helpful.
The location is perfect for exploring Southern Crete. The quaint and quiet village of Sivas is just a two minute stroll away where there are a few lovely tavernas (Vafis and Sactoris). We visited Pitsidia, Matala, Kommos, Kalamaki, Agia Galini, The Ancient City of Phaistos, Zaros - all within a very short drive of the villa. I can highly recommend the Scala restaurant and Port Side bar in Matala as well as Delfini (Dolfins) restaurant in Kalamaki. Our favourite beach was Matala. After visiting these places we drove to take the boat to Loutro and walked the Samaria Gorge which I would also recommend.
There is a local butchers in Sivas for buying meat and supermarkets are a short drive away in Moires.
I would highly recommend this villa for anyone looking to explore the delights of Southern Crete. We hope to revisit again soon!
The location of the village is ideal for exploring the world famous sites of the area like the ancient palace of Phaistos (Festos) as well as other places of interest like the archaeological sites of Gortyna and Agia Triada, the Greek monastery "Moni Odigitrias" and of course the beautiful beaches of Matala, Komos, Kalamaki, Kaloi Limenes, Agiofarago, Lentas, Agia Galini and Preveli.
