It's garden sweeps down to the water's edge with direct access onto the lake and private mooring for four boats .In a tranquil setting close to the historic village of cong and 40 minutes from the vibrant city of galway, the property is situated in an acre of grounds with a bluebell wood in spring and daffodils at easter. It is completely secluded with marshland to the rear of the house which is a haven for wild birds including the shy water rail.

Migratory ducks, swans and geese visit our bay and the beautiful call of the whimbrel echoes over the water from the lake's islands. On still days trout leap from the water and perch gather in the shallows. The house has a cosy, rustic charm with a spacious, kitchen dining room including a lacanche range cooker and log burner. Glass sliding doors give direct access onto the garden and patio area. The large lounge has a tv ,stereo system and an open fire, floor to ceiling windows offer views over the lake. About Tim Weatherhead

Creative Director of The Exhibit, London. Married for 25 years with four children. Artist, designer and curator.

Tim Weatherhead purchased this bungalow in 2000

Why Tim Weatherhead chose County Mayo

We bought this house in 2000 and brought up four children here. They had the most magical time building camps and going swimming off the jetty.

Every time we go back I never fail to be overwhelmed by how beautiful it is. Sitting by the lake in the evening watching otters play in the bay or hearing swans or geese flying overhead.

It is so peaceful and the view is just as beautiful on a wild and windy day as it is in perfect sunshine when the lake becomes a mirror.

One of our friends said we were "in God's pocket here" and I think they were right!

What makes this bungalow unique

It's a great place for family groups or friends to celebrate an event or just get together! There is an extra large sitting room and kitchen. A games room with football and darts for all. The garden sweeps down to the lake with beautiful views across to Rabbit Island. We have our own private mooring for two boats.

It is peace and tranquility with a ten minute drive to the lovely and historic village of Cong.

Five Star Ashford Castle is just around the corner for a special evening out.

Lots of attractions near by with day trips on the lake, fishing ,golf, and riding .

Guestbook comments from the owner

Wow wow wow. Amazing! We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful house. Everything was perfect and the house is located in a beautiful setting beside Lough Corrib. We arrived late and the house was ready to greet us.

A wonderfully peaceful location, with excellent access to Lough Corrib

  • 3 of 5

We had a lovely week staying at this cottage, its location is outstanding. We stay in many cottages in Scotland and now Ireland, and found this to be reasonably equipped, however the bedrooms are very basic and the cottage could do with some gentle updating.

The bedroom windows only have small openable ports, which prevent much airflow and one of the ensuite showers flooded due to a blockage, soaking the carpet and rendering the room unusable for most of our stay. The only real concern was that we had to clean both the kitchen and main bathroom on arrival. I hope this was a one off, but the loo had been left apparently uncleaned. Do go and stay, its a great spot, but a little repair and replacement could make this cottage 5*

An absolute gem!!

  • 5 of 5

This house is a true gem. It is a magical spot directly on the lake with gorgeous views from the kitchen and living room that draw you out and indeed every room really. Beautifully appointed with so many lovely touches, there was ample room for our large group to be extremely comfortable. Loved that the kitchen has a big enough table to accommodate us all. We will definitely return again and highly recommend it to all.

Beautiful location in a great place!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this house - it truly was a long house, so that as many rooms as possible could take advantage of the view over Lough Corrib. Although we were a small group, this would have been great for a larger family as there was plenty of space for everyone. Kitchen could have used a few more cooking items (like baking sheets), but we still made some delicious meals with what we had available. Super relaxing and quiet for good sleeping, and tons to do in the area during the day. I hope we will be back!

Spacious Country Living

  • 5 of 5

The Long House was a wonderful place for our family to stay when visiting family. Our five year old son had a great time exploring the house and surrounds. We hope to be able to stay in the Long House again in the future.

Magnificent property!

  • 5 of 5

This is the perfect place for a family stay. It is a beautiful location and close by to Cong and Ashford Castle. The house is lakefront and very scenic. The home is large and has plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. The owner and local housekeeper are very attentive. We would definitely stay here again if we had the chance.

The village of Cong has many pubs, tea and coffee shops as well as The Abbey, Monk's Fishing Lodge and Pigeon Hole Cave.

Cong Abbey is a historic site located at Cong, on the borders of counties Galway and Mayo, in Ireland's province of Connacht. The ruins of the former Augustinian abbey mostly date to the 13th century and have been described as featuring some of finest examples of medieval ecclesiastical architecture in Ireland.

Cong is also home to Ashford Castle where it is possible to book a session with Falconry, Horse Riding and Clay Pigeon Shooting.

On the road to Cong there is also The Ballymagibbon Cairn and Kellys Cave.

Day Cruises leave from Ashford Castle departing from Lisloughrey Pier. Some of these trips visit the Island of Inchagoill (there is a sign to the pier on the way to Cong, just before the turning to Ashford Castle)

Of all the 365 islands on Lough Corrib Inchagoill is the most famous and most visited. The name Inchagoill comes from 3 Irish words "Inis An Ghaill" meaning the Island of the stranger. Situated

approximately half way between Cong, Co. Mayo and Oughterard, Co. Galway (4.5 miles from each) this special island is home to a number of ancient monastic ruins, some dating back to the 5th Century.

For film lovers, Cong was the film location for The Quiet Man (1952) featuring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara.

Kylemore Abbey (Irish: Mainistir na Coille Móire) is a Benedictine monastery founded in 1920 on the grounds of Kylemore Castle, in Connemara, County Galway. It has the largest Victorian Walled Garden in Ireland, set in a 1000 acre woodland estate

Ross Errilly (Irish: Mainistir Ros Oirialaigh, often anglicised in 18th & 19th century sources as Rosserelly) is a medieval Franciscan friary located about a mile to the northwest of Headford, County

Galway. It is a National Monument of Ireland and among the best-preserved medieval monastic sites in the country.

History of Country Life in rural Ireland is beautifully displayed at this museum, located in Turlough Park just outside Turlough Village, on the N5 approximately eight kilometres east of Castlebar.

Offers traditional woollen blankets, woollen scarves, woollen throws, rugs and woollen gifts. Based in Foxford, County Mayo, the Foxford Woollen Mills Visitor Centre includes a shop, restaurant, art gallery and an exhibition centre.

The Championship Parkland Golf Course at Ballinrobe Golf Club is considered by some, including Padraig Harrington, to be one of the finest in Ireland.

A fun day out for all the family with Pirate Adventure Park has welcomed over 5 million visitors with its range of heritage, family-fun, camping and adventure activity.

If you would like to go fishing on the lake boats are available to hire from our friendly neighbour.

There are many beautiful walks in and around Cong with a walk and cycle route from Cong to Clonbur through the woods. Riding is available in the Ashford Castle grounds through the ancient woodland.

The only race course in Mayo!
