About this property

Peaceful & secluded, set in beautiful countryside & only 30 mins from the sea

Le Haut Provost comprises two converted barns having all modern facilities, including broadband internet (never guaranteed) whilst still maintaining a rustic French country house feel. It sleeps 4 in the Main House and 2+2(mezzanine) in the Annexe. It is in a quiet country lane making it very safe for children and/or pets. There is a pretty, south-facing private garden, which has stunning uninterrupted views across open countryside.

The property is ideally situated to explore the area; it is 10 minutes from the medieval town of Rochefort and 15 minutes from the river port of La Roche Bernard. It is 30 minutes drive to several lovely sandy beaches, with plenty of rockpools, and a similar distance from the beautiful town of Vannes and the rest of the Golfe de Morbihan. Further afield, there is the walled town of Guerande, the trendy resort of La Baule and the busy cities of Nantes and Rennes.

THE MAIN HOUSE

Vaulted spacious sitting and dining room - Open fire, (logs supplied), exposed beams, sofa, old comfy chairs and plenty of books. There is a TV with soundbar and bluetooth connection for music, DVD and broadband Internet connection.
Enormous windows with far reaching views over the surrounding countryside open onto a clematis covered pergola with tiled garden table and seating. Barbecue available.
Family Bathroom: Spacious with double washbasins and walk-in shower.
Separate toilet
Kitchen: very well-equipped, dishwasher and washing machine. Lovely exposed pointed stone wall, enormous beams.
Stairs lead up to a mezzanine office space with desk, sofabed, books and board games and a quirky gallery passage to the second bedroom. The stairs in the house are not suitable for people with mobility issues or unsupervised small children.
Master Bedroom: king-size double bed, chest of drawers and seating area. Hanging space outside the room.
Second bedroom: twin beds that may be pushed together. Shelving for clothes.
Upstairs toilet and washbasin.

Annexe Cottage - A little guest house situated at the bottom of the garden with its own shower room. The corner is also a very comfortable double bed and upstairs on the mezzanine there are 2 single beds and shelving for clothes - note: the stairs are very steep. An extra charge of £100 is required to cover the extra linen and cleaning. This is the ideal teenage 'pad'. It is not available as a separate rental.

There is also a selection of garden furniture and some outside games. Linen and towels are supplied (not beach towels). There is a travel cot and a moveable zedbed, although the property is not suitable for toddlers due to the stairs.

Large log fire

New for 2024 - we shall be doing mainly Sunday - Sunday turnovers due to the huge traffic problems on the roads in France during the July and August period.

Week At Le Haut Provost - 23/07/2023
The property is nice and we appreciated it's rustic authenticity, however, it could have been left much cleaner prior to our arrival. The bathroom requires upgrading. We could not unpack toiletries due to large amount of ants. The crockery and storage shelfs in kitchen were dirty. The garden for us was sadly the worst aspect due to our two weimaraner dogs being on holiday with us. Although the garden was enclosed the full lawn had turned into hay and plants were not looking their best (due to not being watered) and left over half burnt house hold rubbish (tin cans/tin foil/coat hanger) was in the compost heap. In addition, there was a rubbish pile over the wall of the property (used coffee filters, sardine tin). We appreciate recycling is only lifted fortnightly, however, it may be a suggestion for the cleaner to remove the previous occupants yellow recycling bags prior to a new occupant arriving, as we had to look at/smell 2 large yellow bags of rubbish for the entire duration of our stay - we observed maggots in and around these bins. Finally; also in regards to rubbish management, the bins currently in the kitchen have handle gaps in the lids which means open access to flies thus increasing the number of flies in the kitchen/property. Unfortunately, although we liked the property without the afore mentioned issues being addressed and rectified we would not stay in the property again or recommend to friends. Equally so we also do not feel the price is reflective of the current standard.

Characterful property set in lovely garden
Full of character, this typical Brittany barn and its annexe have been tastefully converted to sleep 10 whilst the enclosed garden gives a family lots of privacy and space. The little hamlet of Le Haut Provost is a rural idyll and the surrounding woodland has a myriad of footpaths for children to safely explore. Forty minutes away on traffic-free country roads through some sleepy villages is the Gulf of Morbihan with its fishing ports, beautiful beaches and some superb fish restaurants. The property is ideal for a large family to enjoy the delights of this part of France. Recommended

Rustic
It is a well-equipped cottage with all comforts in a beautiful and quiet area. It is a good area for walking and cycling but it’s also close to nice sights for example Vannes and Roche-Bernard. We realy enjoyed our stay.

Endroit paisible

Everything you need for a perfect vacation.
The house was perfect for our family. Kitchen was more than equipped with everything you need. We had a perfect holiday. I wish to Thank Jilly to use for a small extra to use the electricity to load my hybrid car. The deer came each day close to the house ;-) . The surroundings are beautiful for relaxing and walks through the forest. Big supermarkets are close by. You need to take the car for your breakfast but it is close by. And yes there are insects, but you are outdoors so ...... The insect lamp has done its job very well ;-). Jill, a outdoor table would be maybe a tip for you for next time. End conclusion. Money wise you get what you pay for. A nice house with all the comfort you need to have a nice holiday. I recommend this for those who love to be away from tourist areas .
