About the property

5-bedroom, pet friendly house within walking distance of Crantock beach

Berwyn is situated on the edge of the pretty north Cornwall village of Crantock, and only a short walk over the dunes to its lovely sandy beach, which has recently been voted "The UK Top Family Beach" in the Sunday Times Great British Travel Supplement.

The large pet and family friendly house comfortably accommodates up to 10 and has plenty of space both inside and out for everyone. it is also tastefully decorated throughout beautifully combining modern day charm and elegance.

Berwyn has plenty of room for both large or multiple families, as well as groups of friends. Downstairs there are two spacious living areas. The large lounge with wood burner has patio doors opening out on to the garden and large comfortable sofas. There is also a smaller lounge with another open fire and comfy armchairs for leisurely afternoons or relaxed evenings with good company. The kitchen is well-equipped, with a large pine table for family entertaining or celebrating a special occasion situated in a separate dining room. Also downstairs is a handy ground floor cloakroom and a utility room with direct access to the garden.

Upstairs there are 5 gorgeous bedrooms split over two floors. On the top floor with its own private staircase there is the gorgeous Master Bedroom with king size bed, en-suite shower room and separate dressing room. On the first floor are the other four bedrooms, these include two doubles with zip and link beds allowing them to be set up as either a double or a twin, a standard double bedroom with views over the garden and a pretty twin with two full size single beds. Three are also two family bathrooms, one with large shower, and the other with a classic roll top bath.

Doors from the kitchen, sitting room and utility room open out onto the pretty garden, which features a patio complete with BBQ and table and chairs, where you can enjoy alfresco dinners or summer afternoons. The garden is fully enclosed and is perfect for dogs and young children.

Berwyn is set in the pretty Cornish village of Crantock, which is just along the coast from Newquay and within easy reach of the rest of Cornwall. The North Cornwall coast is famous for it's long, sandy beaches, which are particularly popular with surfers and families, and the beach at Crantock is no exception and is only a short stroll across the fields. The house accepts pets and will take two dogs, which are welcome on Crantock beach though out the year. The village also has its own shop selling day-to-day essentials and a few good places to eat, including two pubs, which are open all year round and are within walking distance of the house. A larger range of places to eat and shop can be found in Newquay.

Guestbook comments from the manager

“We all had a fantastic time in Crantock, lovely days on the beach and a couple of drinks at the Old Albion. House was great, plenty of space for everyone. We are all really sad to be leaving for home.“

The Doyles and Drakes, July 2014

“Had a great stay in Crantock. What a lovely village. Loved the layout downstairs for Millie. Perfect for dogs! Plenty of room with a lovely touch of all the extras. Locals very friendly. Might think of moving down here one day! Thanks to Lisa for the useful information.“

The Freemans, The Wheelers and Millie the Labby, July 2014

“Lovely stay in Berwyn, lovely house. 13 years in Newquay, 1st time in Crantock - definitely converted! Favourite spot in the house - sitting on purple sofa looking out at the beautiful garden. Great to have decent sized bath sheets not postage stamps! Love the village, love the gannel - hope to be back someday.“

The Thomas/Beardmore Family and not forgetting Frodo the pug, Leicestershire, June 2014

“House is spot on – wouldn’t change anything about it. Perfect for a large group of friends or family. Lovely surroundings and beaches. Would recommend this place to family and friends. Thanks for the memories and hopefully we will be back.“

Lovely house, minutes from the beach, less from the coast path

  • 5 of 5

This is a very comfortable house in a lovely quiet village with a beautiful sandy beach in easy walking distance. The younger visitors had a surfing lesson on the beach. We loved the amazing scenery with little sandy coves, turquoise sea and dramatic cliffs.

Great house with everything you need.

  • 5 of 5

Great location with easy walk to the beach, local shop and pubs. Good for long walks along the coastal path and beach which is open for dogs all year round. We were 2 families with 6 kids aged between 10-15 and the house was plenty big enough for us all to have our own space. Well equipped and perfect location we had a great week. Thank!

Excellent Holiday Base

  • 4 of 5

Generally this was a super house for extended family - just two little 'gripes':-

1) The parking was tricky for a two car family group

2) The mattresses probably need replacing (very hard)

Otherwise clean, well equipped, good size, nice garden and outside areas, close to the coast paths and beaches and walking distance from 3 excellent pub/restaurants.

Loved the house, it was our home for a week and we didn't want to leave. Spacious but still cosy. We loved all the bathrooms and the huge bath sheets. We always look for a well equipped kitchen as we love to cook, we weren't disappointed, everything you need was on hand. Gill, couldn't have been nicer. Would have no trouble recommending this property and area. We all want to come back. Thanks for contributing to a week of wonderful memories.

A perfect stay at a lovely home away from home

  • 5 of 5

Berwyn is a lovely house, really well kept and a very homely feel which makes you feel like you're returning to somewhere you've known for many years. It was a great treat to spend time there with my friends for my birthday, especially as the weather was so good and we could enjoy the nearby beaches. The house is really well equipped and very comfortable beds with feather duvets. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Other Activities:

There are plenty of activities to enjoy in the local area. Surfing and other water sports can be enjoyed at many of the local beaches, including both Newquay and Crantock where equipment can be hired and lessons booked. Alternative water sports available include stand up paddle boarding and kayaking.

In Newquay there is an excellent golf course overlooking the ocean, which is suitable to both beginners and those with more experience. The course is open all year round and hosts many different competition. A shorter course is the pitch and putt one at Holywell, which is guaranteed fun for all the family.

Some other activities available include horse riding with various local yards offering both coastal and countryside treks. For cyclists there are many different routes available, with some being suitable for beginners, for the more experienced riders Bodmin is nearby and perfect those looking for a spot more adventure.

Crantock lies just a few miles west of Newquay and is a pretty seaside village home to two excellent pubs, a restaurant and a few good shops, including a convenience store for day-to-day essentials. It is however, the village's dog and family friendly beach that makes it a popular destination for visitors to North Cornwall.

Berwyn is located just outside of the village centre on the road, which leads west to Perranporth. From the house it is a gentle stroll over the fields and dunes to the beach, as well as to the pubs and shop. Another notable place in the village is its church, which was built on the original site of a monastery destroyed by Henry 8th.

Lying between Crantock and Newquay is the River Gannel, which during the summer has a boat operating on it to ferry passengers between Fern Pitt and Crantock, this is a great way to access the town without getting in the car.

Other places to see nearby include Polly Joke beach, Holywell and Perranporth.

Much of Crantock is owned by the National Trust, including the headland, which has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The area is perfect for walkers with the South West Coast Path passing through the village and many other nearby footpaths available for exploring the local scenery.
