Stag Lodge is situated near Wester Ross and within easy reach of Plockton and Applecross and the glorious beaches on the West Coast of Scotland. It sleeps 8 people in 4 lovely bedrooms and has a spacious living room with patio doors opening onto the garden.
It is the cottage's location within the 12,000 Glencarron Estate that makes it really special. There are four peaks over 3,000 ft on the Estate and four more within an easy drive, so it's an ideal spot for "Munro Baggers". There are wonderful walks from the cottage, and deer stalking, salmon and trout fishing and clay-pigeon shooting can all be organised from the cottage owners.
Apart from the amazing scenery right outside the cottage, there are also plenty of places to visit with the Isle of Skye, Plockton and the rest of the Highlands to explore.
Just a quick note to say what a great week we had in [the] Cottage, thanks. We were so lucky with the weather and a big thank you to Eric who looked after us well too. The location is ideal for exploring this beautiful area, and we did a mixture of walking locally to traveling as far as Skye enjoying some excellent food along the way. Stag Lodge was ideal for our purpose. We are a family and friends group who are in to Hill Walking. There is plenty of space to relax, cook and dry cloths. Perfect location for many Munro's, including very good access to some courtesy of the estate. Very comfortable and fully enjoyable.
The one criticism was the poor flow rate in the down stairs shower.
Had a great time, and loved the cottage - again. I have stayed on the Glen Carron estate many times over the years. If I have one small gripe, the water pressure for the shower is so incredibly weak that it clearly needs a pump.
Fantastic location and made to feel very welcome when we arrived. Rooms all set out to accommodate the family as booked and the main bedroom being downstairs away from the other rooms was useful with kids being bit older. House was well equipped but a curtain screen to allow more use of the upstairs bathroom would have been useful.
Special interest holidays:
Walkers: There are four peaks on the estate over 3000 feet and a further four close by, making this a wonderful area for Munro Baggers. Less strenuous walks are also available on the 12,000 acre estate.
Other activities available on the estate, include clay pigeon shooting, fishing, stag and hind stalking, photo stalking and nature spotting walks.
Cycling: The Scottish Highlands offer an abundance of both level and hilly routes for cyclist, so there is always something for everyone no matter what there ability.
Boat Trips: From the Kyle of Lochalsh set sail on a glass bottom boat that lets you see all the scenery and wildlife that is off the western coast.
At Red Point near Gairloch you will find some of the best beaches on offer in Scotland. These stunning beaches may be a 50 minute drive from the cottage but they are well worth the visit.
An alternative beach is Firemore near the River Ewe. This quaint beach is warmed by the gulf stream and is on the shore of a sea loch.
Stag Lodge on the Glencarron Estate is less than an hour's drive from Inverness, three from the city of Aberdeen and five from Edinburgh.
If travelling from England then it is easier and quicker than you may think, many of the airports have daily flights on offer to Inverness at very reasonable price and with flights taking only 80 minutes it is a good alternative to driving. Car hire is also available from the airport.
Inverness is an hours drive from the cottage. The city's airport offers flights to many of the airports in England, including London, Birmingham and Bristol.
Achnasheen is 6 miles away and has the Railway station
Fifteen miles from the cottage is Lochcarron. This lovely village has many of the local services you will require when staying at Stag Lodge, including a small supermarket, petrol station, bank and several good places to eat. A large Tesco is also located in Dingwall, which many guests travel through on their way to the cottage.
