Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 0 - 7 nights

About the property

3-bedroom Highland cottage sleeping up to 6 - perfect for families and couples

Whether you come from Fort William on the West side of Scotland or via Inverness on the East side, Tigh an Aullt is approached via one of the most awe inspiring glens of Scotland. Cluanie Glen is magnificent with its majestic mountains, its rugged rivers and loch. The colours of the highland landscape at any time of the year are truly beautiful.

This 3-bedroom detached cottage sleeping up to six, is the ideal home-away-from-home for those seeking a holiday in the beautiful Scottish Highlands.

Tigh an Aullt is situated at the foot of the Five Sisters of Kintail, a famous set of Munros which draw climbers throughout the year. It is the highest cottage in the village of Ault na Chruinne nestling tight into the hillside. A spate stream full of large boulders flows down the hillside beside the cottage garden, sometimes with the sounds of the boulders moving, sometimes, as quiet as a gurgling fountain, depending on the amount of rainfall. Excellent walking, sailing, boat hire, pony-trekking and fishing are all nearby and Eilean Donan Castle, Plockton, Torridon and Applecross are within easy reach.

The warm and cosy cottage has been tastefully decorated throughout and enjoys panoramic views over the nearby loch and mountains. It is also only a 15-mile drive to the Skye Bridge making this a must when staying at the property. There is also a handy pub/restaurant and shop within walking distance.

The property, which is set over one floor is entered via the handy porch. Then once inside there is a lovely large triple aspect lounge complete with open fire, big leather sofas and a TV. At the far end of the lounge is the perfect place to admire the views with a set of chairs and table set out to overlook the loch - there is even a telescope for spotting the seals, dolphins and otters in the water, as well as the eagles, harriers and peregrines in the sky. Next door to the sitting room is the modern, well-equipped kitchen, which is fitted with a gas hob, an electric cooker and a dishwasher. The washing machine, tumble dryer and fridge/freezer can be found in the useful utility room. The kitchen has amazing views over Loch Duich and Mam Ratagan. A separate dining room has a large pine table to seat up to six.

The three bedrooms are all a good size and include the wonderful master with king-size double bed, views of the Five Sisters and an en-suite bathroom complete with Jacuzzi bath and overhead shower. The other bedrooms are a lovely big twin with two full size single beds and the children's favourite Bunk Room with full sized bunk beds. The final room is the family bathroom, which has a wash basin, a WC, a bath, a separate shower and a two person Swedish Sauna.

Outside the cottage has a big paved patio with views over the mountains and loch, the stream is also visible and can be heard in the background. There is also a lawn area for children to run around. The gardens surrounding Tigh An Aullt are nicely sheltered and a number of bird feeding stations have been set up to allow visitors to see the local birds. In the evenings deer can often be seen either on the higher ground or around the cottage. A special visitor to the garden is the Pine Marten, who can often be enticed out with bread and jam placed on the ground or on the table - they are used to the outside light, so you can even keep this on to get a better look.

3-bedroom Highland Cottage with panoramic views across mountains and Loch Duich

A cosy homely place with spectacular scenic views

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to this magnificent holiday home. The snow clad mountains, the sound of running water with the peaceful waters of Loch Duich present a constant panorama of Highland magnificence.

Its a great location for visiting Glenelg, on our previous visit we were lucky enough to see the sea eagle returning to Mull. We popped over to Plockton where as usual we enjoyed the great food and hospitality at Plockton Shores Restaurant. Its a bit further, but we also nipped to Fort Augustus to watch the boats coming through the locks set against the backdrop of Loch Ness.

With Kyle close by and Skye on the doorstep this area of natural beauty is a must for us to see each year.

Well furnished and all in working order. Dreaming of returning for longer stay.

Highlight was our over-the-mountain drive to Applecross and superb seafood lunch at the Inn!

Perfect location, perfect home, perfect holiday!!

  • 5 of 5

We had the most magical holiday, amazing views all around the property. The property was very well maintained, clean and very well equipped. We received great customer service right from our first enquiry and throughout our stay. There is a local shop just a few minutes walk away, very well stocked and helpful owners, they advised us of a hotel close by, which is where we spent New Years Eve, fun evening and also very friendly!! Would very much love to visit this property again. Have already recommended this property to family & friends. Thank you again for such a perfect holiday

Scenic Highland Loch View Cottage

  • 4 of 5

Wonderful scenic views from the panoramic lounge window, abundance of wildlife to keep you entertained. Comfy and cosy cottage especially with the open fire. Excellent facilities in the cottage , but could do with some updating and some minor repairs. Will definitely be back again.

Other Activities:

The area is a must for outward bounders, with incredible scenery and miles of walks through stunning Glens and up some serious mountains. But it's not just about walking, you can mountain bike, or go kayaking on Loch Duich. There is great fishing to be had and you can go whale watching or simply just go and visit the beautiful places all about, like Applecross and Plockton. The cottage is also only a few miles from Skye Bridge, meaning a visit to the island is a must.

Tigh an Aullt sits at the foot of The Five Sisters of Kintail a famous set of Munros and overlooks Loch Duich.

The view from the cottage is spectacular and cottage even has a telescope so you can make the most of it.

The area around Kintail is mainly controlled by the National Trust of Scotland and the Kintail and Morvich Estate. It is a mecca for walkers of all abilities, there are 17 Munros in the area, which means that is is very popular with serious mountain hikers but there are so many stunning walks in the area there is always something for every ability and age.

From the cottage you can drive up the coast and cross on the ferry from Plockton to the Isle of Skye or visit Eilean Donan Castle which is just up the road.
