Traditional 1800's stone cottage on the outskirts of Dartmoor National Park

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

2 bedroom stone, mid terraced cottage with many original features

A mid terraced property with a fully enclosed garden. The terrace is built side on to the road and we are the second property in. Downstairs there is a well stocked kitchen with handmade units and a belfast sink as well as a dishwasher and washing machine. The lounge diner has a large stone fireplace with wood burner and window seat. There is a television and DVD player and free wifi. The floors are solid stone or wood, making it ideal for dogs. The downstairs ceiling is lower than a more modern property but an average person has no problem walking around without bumping their head!

The stairs lead to three rooms and a bathroom on the first floor. The main bedroom has a double bed, the second room has two single beds and the third can be used as a small playroom. There is room for a travel cot in the main bedroom, (not provided). The bathroom has an electric shower over the bath. Towels, (including beach towels), bed linen and tea towels are provided.

There is a small, sunny garden with garden furniture and a barbecue. There is ample parking outside on Bond Street. The cottage is in the village of Cornwood, which is inside the boundary of the National Park. From the village centre there are views of the Moor which is only 2 kilometres away, a pub and a small shop. Ivybridge is the nearest main town where you can find everything you need for a stay in this most beautiful part of the country.

About Lynnette & Tony

We are a family of five living near Bournemouth. Our roots are in Kent and London but we decided to move to the South West as it is a pretty part of the UK. We often spent our summer holidays on Dartmoor, and when an opportunity arose we decided to buy ourselves a property their for us to use.

Lynnette & Tony purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Lynnette & Tony chose Cornwood

Cornwood is a very friendly, welcoming village ideally situated at the southern tip of Dartmoor. The cottage is attractive and homely and within walking distance of the moor itself.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Enjoyed our stay at your cottage, we used it as a base so we could do five days walking. You have a nice place with lovely neighbours. We could have had better weather but you can't book the weather

Once again thanks !!

Very nice place.

We just got back and all enjoyed it. The house was nicer than the pictures suggest.

The only reason it didn’t get 5 stars is because it had a bit of a smell. I think they may have had dogs there in the past.

Welcome short break

  • 5 of 5

Cottage clean and well appointed, had no hot water but that did not matter as we boiled a kettle for washing up and the shower was very good. It is well situated for Dartmoor or the Coast the local pub was closed as there was to be a change of landlord but we ate out most of the time in Plymouth, will try to book again sometime next year.

Ideal Base

  • 5 of 5

We stayed whilst attending a family wedding nearby. The cottage was an ideal base, and a haven of peace away from the wedding venue! The cottage is well equipped and comfortable and, although potentially difficult, we never had a problem with parking in the narrow roads. We definitely aim to return in due course and make more of its lovely location.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review. We specifically chose the property based on its location and appearance. Parking is important for most of our guests, and while there is no private parking, the street is normally available unless you get back after midnight! Even then there is always space some 100 metres away in the square.

Ticked all the boxes!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay in Rose Cottage - comfortable, warm and cosy. It was the perfect base for visiting our son and after a hectic Saturday we had the best Sunday sitting in the cosy lounge with log burner, watching favourite movies! Thank you!

Cosy and Comfy Cottage in Cornwood

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is neat but not too small. Clean on arrival and when we left. Ideally located just a shame the local Cornwood Inn closed the day we arrived and was closed for ten or so days till around 14th the manager grumpily told us as if we should have known! So just drove and went to eat at the lovely and friendly pubs and Inns nearby.

Would have been nice to have had a pint of fresh milk left in the fridge at No 2 Rose Cottages.

Welcome pack should start with a warm welcome and include information of local amenities and things to do. Instead all we read first off was what we should and shouldn't do. Then it continued with various lists of instructions for the cottage and it's contents. No day for the cottage bin collection listed in the folder.

Went to use the vacuum but it stank of wet dog hair so we gave up as our party are allergic to dogs.

Only two small heaters and radiator in the bathroom for the whole cottage. Just two pieces of wood in the basket for the wood burning stove. Kitchen sink wasn't clean on arrival.

Friendly female black cat and a black a white shy kitten were about. Be aware the female black cat was keen to get in the cottage.

Garden tiny but kept tidy and was used by us when the sun came out.

Overall a pleasant stay apart these few hicups and could have been more welcoming.
