About the property

Gite with heated pool, close to the heart of Dordogne's numerous attractions.

This is a new gite with a private pool, not far from Le Bugue and Bergerac in a peaceful rural location in the Dordogne, close to the heart of the Dordogne's numerous tourist attractions.

The private heated pool and hot tub have a beautiful view over the valley and village of St Laurent des Batons, surrounded by decking and with shower and sun loungers.

Be one of the first to stay in our 200 year old barn converted into a well equipped, comfortable self-catering gite, with 2 bathrooms, one en-suite, sleeping up to 5 people.

PLEASE NOTE We live discreetly on site in the adjoining farmhouse. Being on site means we can provide you with help finding or booking restaurants, canoeing, markets or anything else you may need. Alternatively, we will just ensure the pool and gardens are maintained to a high standard and leave you to your own devices!

The main area is an open plan living space with a well-equipped kitchen area.

There is a private entrance with separate parking, newly established garden and a private, heated 8x5m pool with a beautiful view.

We are situated to the north of Perigord Noir, the heart of the Dordogne, minutes away from both the Dordogne and Vezere valleys. A peaceful rural location situated just 10 km south of Vergt, 10 km north of Sainte Alvère and 24km north of Le Bugue with their numerous tourist attractions, weekly markets and a selection of supermarkets.

We have provided everything we would hope to find in a brand new fully equipped fitted kitchen - full size cooker, microwave, fridge and freezer, dishwasher, food processor, cooks knives, serving dishes, kettle, teapot, coffee maker and all cooking utensils. There is also a washing machine, iron and ironing board.

New 49" flat screen HD TV, satellite TV (with all English free to air channels), and a DVD player. We have an up to 20MB broadband connection with WiFi and a good 3G mobile signal. We've included a Bluetooth speaker to play your music from your laptop, phone or music player. There is also a large selection of books, puzzles and games.

To minimise the amount of luggage you need to bring (especially for those flying) all bed linen and towels are provided and included in the price, including pool towels. For 2 week bookings, a fresh set of linen and towels will be provided for the second week. A travel cot is available, but we do not supply linen for it.

There is a mobile air conditioning unit and a portable fan in the upstairs bedroom and a ceiling fan is provided in the downstairs bedroom.

Smoking: in the interest of safety and the comfort of subsequent guests, we kindly request that you refrain from smoking inside the gite.

A fire extinguisher and fire blanket are provided in the kitchen and smoke alarms are fitted.

2 Bedrooms - sleeping up to 5 adults.

1 x king size bed - with en-suite shower room.

2x single beds, with an additional day bed (this room can be made into a double bed if required).

Family bathroom with bath and shower over the bath. Perfect for adults and children.

Hairdryers are located in both rooms.

The upstairs bedroom has a high ceiling with exposed beams and is accessed by stairs.

Blinds are included in both rooms - ideal for putting the kids to bed.

The heated, private pool for sole use by our guests, is 8x5m and 1.4m deep with steps providing easy access and is in full sunshine for most of the day with views over the valley and the village of St Laurent des Batons. It conforms with all French pool security regulations and, for added security and peace of mind, the pool is surrounded by decking and set in a fully fenced pool area. We also have a four-person hot tub next to the pool.

Our pool is a traditional chlorinated pool, checked and maintained daily, to ensure bather comfort. The hot tub is also checked daily.

There are sun loungers and umbrellas in this area to ensure that you get all the sun or shade you desire.

Solar heated shower.

All pool maintenance is undertaken by Dean. You're on holiday – there’s nothing for you to do (unless you really want to).

There is parking for two cars next to the barn.

The gite has a terrace with a charcoal barbecue, wooden table, umbrella and chairs. There is a private seating area overlooking the valley as well.

There are stunning views over the surrounding countryside from the gite, terrace and pool. The newly established garden around the barn is for sole use by gite guests, with some trees offering shade.

Some garden maintenance (yes grass cutting and watering) will be necessary during your stay - but we’ll endeavour to do this whilst you are out and about.

We are surrounded by open fields and woods - excellent for an evening stroll.

About Debra Fetzer

We moved to the Dordogne after two decades living in London, with a view to a quieter and better life in a place we love.

Debra Fetzer purchased this barn in 2014

Why Debra Fetzer chose Saint-Laurent-des-Bâtons

This is a great location, with fantastic views over the beautiful valley and is on a quiet side road. The great climate, the local sites and facilities, not to mention the wine and local produce were all reasons for us to make the move. Having spent many years visiting the area, the 200 year-old farmhouse and the barn were just right for us and feels like home now - we hope you feel the same!

What makes this barn unique

A quiet rural area on a road with little traffic, this is a tranquil place to enjoy the Dordogne and still be within a short distance of many of the natural and man-made attractions of the area. A private pool and very comfortable gite make this an ideal place for that family getaway or a chance for the two of you to get away from it all and relax.

A very clean, comfortable and well equipped Gites.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed out stay in the Gites very much. It was well maintained and equipped, set in a beautiful part of France, very peaceful with lovely views. Debbie and Dean were very welcoming and helpful and it was comforting to know they were around but not intrusive. The swimming pool and Jacuzzi were spotlessly clean and were attended to every morning. We went out most days as there is so much to see in the area and lovely restaurants to try.

A wonderful holiday

  • 5 of 5

Deb and Dean made us feel most welcome, and from the outset we were able to relax and enjoy their gorgeous pool and excellently appointed gite. The kitchen is stocked with an extensive supply of crockery and pans, making eating in very easy. It was the best stocked kitchen we've experienced in a holiday property. The gite is spacious and very comfortable, athough we spent most of our time outside in the shaded deck area or around the great pool.

We were grateful for the wine, beer and groceries which Deb and Dean provided for us when we arrived, and for the cot, linens and baby bath bought especially for our grandson.

Thank you for being so thoughtful and kind.

The area has much to offer and we enjoyed exploring the pretty local towns, markets and restaurants. We had a great time and hope to return next year. Thanks so much.

A wonderful tranquil cottage in glorious countryside

  • 5 of 5

An impeccably looked after house, very comfortable and unusually well equipped. We really enjoyed the pool and the kindness of our hosts. The countryside was astonishing with a wealth of wild flowers including 12 different species of orchid in one evening's walk. We were close enough to the caves and cave paintings to make several journeys, and the local footpaths were a delight. We would love to come back and would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of visiting the Dordogne.

Impressive and everything you could wish for a totally relaxing holiday.

  • 5 of 5

Debra and Dean Fetzer could not have been more welcoming and helpful but were never intrusive and were a fount of knowledge about the area. The gite was comfortable and welcoming and the pool and hot tub luxury indeed. We return later in the year.

A delightful gite in beautiful surroundings with welcoming and friendly hosts. Wonderful.

  • 5 of 5

Situated in beautiful peaceful countryside, this is a delightful gite that has had a lot of thought and care put into the renovations. Dean and Debra seem to have thought of everything- even water toys and an inflatable croc for the pool! The gite, pool and hot-tub are spotlessly clean and along with the grounds, so very well maintained. Debra and Dean are very friendly and helpful and give the assurance of advice if needed whilst maintaining a discreet presence.

We would be very happy to return again in the future and can wholeheartedly recommend this lovely place.
