About the property

Gite with heated pool, close to the heart of Dordogne's numerous attractions

This is a brand new gite with a pool, not far from Le Bugue and Bergerac in a peaceful rural location in the Dordogne, close to the heart of the Dordogne's numerous tourist attractions.

The private heated pool and hot tub have a beautiful view over the valley and village of St Laurent des Batons, surrounded by decking and with shower and sun loungers.

Be one of the first to stay in our 200 year old barn converted into a well equipped, comfortable self catering gite, with 2 bathrooms, one en-suite, sleeping up to 5 people.

PLEASE NOTE We live discreetly on site in the adjoining farmhouse. Being on site means we can provide you with help finding or booking restaurants, canoeing, markets or anything else you may need. Alternatively, we will just ensure the pool and gardens are maintained to a high standard and leave you to your own devices!

The main area is an open plan living space with a well-equipped kitchen area.

There is a private entrance with separate parking, newly established garden and a private, heated 8x5m pool with a beautiful view.

We are situated to the north of Perigord Noir, the heart of the Dordogne, minutes away from both the Dordogne and Vezere valleys. A peaceful rural location situated just 10 km south of Vergt, 10 km north of Sainte Alvère and 24km north of Le Bugue with their numerous tourist attractions, weekly markets and a selection of supermarkets.

Inside

We have provided everything we would hope to find in a brand new fully equipped fitted kitchen - full size cooker, microwave, fridge and freezer, dishwasher, food processor, cooks knives, serving dishes, kettle, teapot, coffee maker and all cooking utensils. There is also a washing machine, iron and ironing board.

New 49" flat screen HD TV, satellite TV (with all English free to air channels), and a DVD player. We have an up to 20MB broadband connection with WiFi and a good 3G mobile signal. We've included a Bluetooth speaker to play your music from your laptop, phone or music player. There is also a large selection of books, puzzles and games.

To minimise the amount of luggage you need to bring (especially for those flying) all bed linen and towels are provided and included in the price, including pool towels. For 2 week bookings, a fresh set of linen and towels will be provided for the second week. A travel cot is available, but we do not supply linen for it.

There is a mobile air conditioning unit and a portable fan in the upstairs bedroom and a ceiling fan is provided in the downstairs bedroom.

Smoking: in the interest of safety and the comfort of subsequent guests, we kindly request that you refrain from smoking inside the gite.

A fire extinguisher and fire blanket are provided in the kitchen and smoke alarms are fitted.

2 Bedrooms - sleeping up to 5 adults.

1 x king size bed - with en-suite shower room.

2x single beds, with an additional day bed (this room can be made into a double bed if required).

Family bathroom with bath and shower over the bath. Perfect for adults and children.

Hairdryers are located in both rooms.

The upstairs bedroom has a high ceiling with exposed beams and is accessed by stairs.

Blinds are included in both rooms - ideal for putting the kids to bed.

Outside

The heated pool is 8 x 5m and 1.4m deep with steps providing easy access and is in full sunshine for most of the day with views over the valley and the village of St Laurent des Batons. It conforms with all French pool security regulations and, for added security and peace of mind, the pool is surrounded by decking and set in a fully fenced pool area. We also have a four-person hot tub next to the pool.

Our pool is a traditional chlorinated pool, checked and maintained daily, to ensure bather comfort. The hot tub is also checked daily.

There are sun loungers and umbrellas in this area to ensure that you get all the sun or shade you desire.

Solar heated shower.

All pool maintenance is undertaken by Dean. You're on holiday – there’s nothing for you to do (unless you really want to).

There is parking for two cars next to the barn.

The gite has a terrace with a charcoal barbecue, wooden table, umbrella and chairs. There is a private seating area overlooking the valley as well.

There are stunning views over the surrounding countryside from the gite, terrace and pool. The newly established garden around the barn is for sole use by gite guests, with some trees offering shade.

Some garden maintenance (yes grass cutting and watering) will be necessary during your stay - but we’ll endeavour to do this whilst you are out and about.

We are surrounded by open fields and woods - excellent for an evening stroll.

About Debra Fetzer

We moved to the Dordogne after two decades living in London, with a view to a quieter and better life in a place we love.

Debra Fetzer purchased this barn in 2014

Why Debra Fetzer chose Perigord Pourpre

This is a great location, with fantastic views over the beautiful valley and is on a quiet side road. The great climate, the local sites and facilities, not to mention the wine and local produce were all reasons for us to make the move. Having spent many years visiting the area, the 200 year-old farmhouse and the barn were just right for us and feels like home now - we hope you feel the same!

What makes this barn unique

A quiet rural area on a road with little traffic, this is a tranquil place to enjoy the Dordogne and still be within a short distance of many of the natural and man-made attractions of the area. A private pool and very comfortable gite make this an ideal place for that family getaway or a chance for the two of you to get away from it all and relax.

A beautifully tranquil property in the Dordogne

 • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a lovely, relaxing stay at this property. Just half an hour from Bergerac airport, this cottage provided an ideal setting for our family of four on our two-week break in France. The cottage is tranquil, beautifully presented and well-equipped with everything we needed to make ourselves comfortable. We all loved having the pool at our disposal and the boys got plenty of use out of it every day. The perfect hosts, Dean and Deb were on hand to make sure we had everything we needed, yet were discreet at the same time. The fact that we didn't go out exploring the region half as much as we should have is a testament to how comfortable and relaxing a base the cottage provided! We all had a wonderful holiday - thank you!

Great gite in the Dordogne!

 • 5 of 5

Debra and Dean made us feel very relaxed and at home in their Gite. The accommodation was very clean, fresh and comfortable and had everything that we needed. A perfect spot for a couple or a family with 2 children. Loved the hot tub and the pool. They also suggested sites to see and great restaurants for a special night out. Loved Chez Julien's!

Hated to leave!

Outstanding property

 • 5 of 5

An outstanding property beautifully developed and furnished with everything you could possibly want. The interior was spacious and modern and all renovated with style and comfort. We had a wonderful 2 week vacation at this property which was lovely. It is in a very rural location - peace and quiet, areas to walk or jog, great opportunity to relax and chill !

Proprietors (Debra and Dean) were on hand if required and were extremely helpful in suggesting places to visit, restaurants to eat out but were not at all intrusive. Dean looked after the pool each morning and they were both friendly and very welcoming.

The pool was a lovely attraction and benefit as we had some very hot days so it was a delight to cool off with a swim at any time of day or night. The hot tub was a godsend after a run!

We visited many lovely surrounding villages/towns generally on market days which were an added attraction and they created an interesting atmosphere to browse around. Vergt, St Alvere were very local towns we visited and further afield we went to Le Bugue (excellent market), Perigeux, Lalinde, Beynac and Domme (both beautiful old towns on the river) and Bergerac. The restaurants suggested by Debra and Dean were all very good and reasonably priced although not many places catered very well for vegetarians! They don't seem to in France.

We would certainly recommend this property to anyone looking for the rural idyll. It is in a lovely area and very peaceful with easy access from Bergerac airport which is where we arrived.

A stunning property with excellent facilities and pool

 • 5 of 5

We have been travelling to France for 8 years and this is one of the best properties we have visited. The accommodation is very homely and has been really well thought out in a great location.

The property and pool are maintained to an excellent standard and the owners are most helpful and welcoming. The pool is maintained daily by the owners which is very rare for France and is absolutely spotless.

The property has everything you need and has been completed to a really high standard.

Will definitely be returning as soon as possible as must be one of the best breaks we have had in France. if only all the properties in France were this good!

The gite was amazing and in such a beautiful location with a stunning view across the countryside.

 • 5 of 5

A well equipped and beautifully presented gite with hot tub and immaculate private swimming pool! It had everything we needed for a relaxing week's holiday both by the pool and sightseeing across the Dordogne area. The location was perfect and we didn't want to leave! Woke to sunshine and birds singing with little other noise than the church bells in the tiny sleepy village below. Nearest local shops an easy 15 minute drive away but definitely need a car if wanting to eat out of an evening. Dean & Debra had thought of everything and were on hand if needed for advice on where to go and what to see. Would recommend to anyone wanting to get away into the French countryside.
