Beautiful boat, not so beautiful public toilet next to the boat
We had a great stay on this houseboat, it is in a wonderful and convenient neighborhood. We were 3 sisters traveling together and arrived to a beautifully clean, neat and tidy boat. The owners were wonderful! We enjoyed fun conversation with them, a tour of the boat and brief instruction on how everything worked. They had maps and travel brochures available to help us with our adventures. The boat has a great split bathroom set-up with shower and sink on one side and toilet and another sink on the other side, both with doors. This worked really well for our group. There is not much privacy as the way to the bathroom is through the bedroom, but this is common on boats and did not pose any difficulty for us. There is a great dining table, big enough for 8 or so, which was the site of many rousing dominoes games. The kitchen is small but very functional. The sofa in the living room converts to a fairly comfortable bed. The interior of the boat is bright and lovely. On occasion the street noise was loud, or the canal traffic was loud, but for the most part we enjoyed the neighborhood.
One of the reasons we chose this boat to rent was the deck space. We wanted to sit and relax and watch the boat traffic go by. The deck was lovely part of the time. The major drawback to sitting outside was the smell from the men's public (open) toilet less than 10m from the deck. Our hosts did warn us that it did need rinsing occasionally and that is totally the truth. One of us needed to be on public toilet duty several time during our stay where we would take a bucket of canal water and "flush" the toilet. This was honestly the only drawback to staying on this boat, but for us it was a big one. The owners are working to get the toilet removed, and if they succeed, I would rate this a 5 star place to stay.
Very comfortable houseboat. It was more spacious than we imagined. Beautiful decor. Great location.
We were warmly greeted to receive keys. The location borders two fantastic districts (the Jordaan and the Canals) and is walkable from the Central Train station.
The houseboat was very clean and the beds were comfortable. Extra blankets or pillows were available. We didn’t need them as it was very hot while we were there and so a clean, powerful fan was on each in the main room and the bedroom. The kitchen had all the dishes, pots, and appliances you would need.
A lot of natural light floods the rooms, however, good blinds and curtains allow for evening privacy. Attractive light fixtures are well placed over tables, near chairs, and bedside.
Lovely, comfortable houseboat!!
