About the property

Le Fitou is a wing of an old Winemaker's House with 3 bedrooms and a large pool

The Winemaker's House in Mirepeisset has two 3 bedroom Gites both with swimming pools and is an ideal base for exploring the Languedoc- Roussillon area.

LE FITOU Gite comfortably sleeps 6 and is furnished to a high standard. It has its own private front entrance which opens into a foyer, which leads into the spacious beamed living room with two large windows overlooking the courtyard. There is Wi Fi, Cable TV and a CD Player. Off the living room is a separate laundry room equipped with a washing machine and toilet. Also off the living room is the fully equipped kitchen with oven, hob, dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, etc. The glass kitchen door allows in plenty of light as well as leading you out to your private patio and the pool area. Adjoining the living room is a separate dining room with large window overlooking your patio, and the stairs leading to the upper floor. The master bedroom has a large window overlooking the pool and walled garden; the master bedroom is en suite. There are two twin bedrooms, both with windows overlooking the courtyard, and a large shared bathroom.

LE FITOU is tiled throughout the ground floor, has parking facilities on the property with a gate, the windows have curtains and shutters, and is equipped with central heating for chillier months. There is a patio area for your private use, partly covered for shelter, if desired, from the hot sun. There are tables and chairs, a BBQ, sun beds with comfortable cushions and parasols. Linen and towels are included (and special beach towels can also be provided)

Besides your private patio, the entire garden and pool patio surround is also for your use. There are also pool toys and floats.

The swimming pool is a large 5 metre x 11 metre (17 feet x 36 feet), set into a beautiful walled & landscaped provincial garden. The pool & garden are a shared space with the friendly owners who live next door. The owners have a totally separate patio area screened from Le Fitou, but will be seen gardening and maintaining the pool. (We usually try to do this early in the morning or when you have gone off for the day!) As far as swimming and sunbathing go, the same applies…. we tend to use the facilities when you are off doing other things!

About Roger & Jane Hollings

Jane and Roger lived in the UK and bought the Winemaker's House and its two Gites (La Fleurie and Le Fitou) in June 2015 and it is now their permanent home. It fulfils their dream to live in France close to the Med. We have really enjoyed the experience so far, meeting all sorts of interesting and entertaining people; both guests and locals alike.

Roger & Jane Hollings purchased this house in 2015

Why Roger & Jane Hollings chose Narbonne area

The Languedoc felt right for us from the start. Close to the Mediterranean but not overwhelmed by tourists, the area has an incredible and varied mix of beautiful landscapes and an almost limitless choice of things to do and places to visit. Couple this to friendly locals and great food and wine, the decision was easy.

The Winemakers House ticked all the boxes - characterful, in a great location and with an existing Gite business with the potential to develop further.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We really enjoyed our stay. Our hosts were great and the accommodation was lovely. We hope to return next year. Very well situated to cover the whole region - coast and country, we could not have been more pleased.

The Winemaker's House in Mirepeisset has two 3 bedroom Gites both with swimming pools and is an ideal base for exploring the Languedoc- Roussillon area.

The village has a general store providing all your basic needs including fresh bread and croissants and has two restaurants (one open all year round).

Close by is the historic village of Le Somail on the Canal du Midi with several restaurants to chose from (as well as a wonderful old book shop!).

In Ginestas - three kilometres away - you can find a bank, pharmacy and more restaurants.

A large Intermarche super market with 24/7 fuel is only 5 minutes away.

The ancient city of Narbonne is just a 15 km drive. Well worth a visit for its Roman road, cathedral, canal and famous covered market.

Carcassonne is a favourite destination with its old fortified city that has starred in many a film. It is an easy 40 minute drive.

The Mediterranean is only 30-40 minutes away and there are several great beaches within easy reach - Gruissan, Narbonne Plage, La Franqui and Leucate to name but a few.

For the slightly more adventurous there is kayaking in Roquebrun on the River Orb. (This is highly recommended from personal experience) as well as white water rafting in the Pyrenees.

Another must see are the Cathar Castles. Quiberus and Peyrepertuse are two spectacular examples and are an hour or so away.

Let's not forget the wine. Languedoc Roussillon is the biggest wine producing area in France with many famous names - Fitou, Minervois, Corbieres and St Chinian. Mirepeisset has its own domain - Les Herbes Saintes.

Bike rides (bike hire can easily be arranged), horse riding, walking, boat trips on the Canal du Midi are all readily available. A typical comment from our guests is that there is so much to do they will have to come back!

A French holiday to remember in a lovely gite in a fantastic location.

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a wonderful week spent in the Aude region of the Languedoc .

Le Fitou is a traditional French gite with a large pool, sun beds and well kept garden situated in a small village location near to the Canal Midi and the beautiful historic towns of Narbonne and Carcassonne. It is well equipped with spacious bedrooms and modern bathrooms. One of my memories will be waking up with the sunshine gleaming ,overlooking the garden and pool and listening to the church bells ringing. Roger and Jane ( plus lovely Lupin the small friendly dog) are fantastic friendly hosts; they have researched the local area well and subsequently know the best places to visit including restaurants, beaches and historic villages.

We have stayed in many gites and villas during the last 10 years in France and the welcome pack was the best ever, thank you.

My family and I look forward to returning in the future.

Superb accomodation

  • 5 of 5

We (mum, dad plus sons 18 and 20) spent a wonderful 2 weeks at Le Fitou. We became 5 when joined by a son's friend in the second week. More than enough space and very comfortable- large living room with adjacent, well equipped, kitchen and dining room. We didn't use the dining room much, as we tended to eat on the shaded patio table just outside the kitchen, beyond which was a large, clean and essential (it was very hot) swimming pool within a beautiful garden. 3 good sized and comfortable bedrooms equipped with fans (essential at night). We loved it. Our hosts, Roger and Jane, could not have been more kind and helpful. They were full of information about the local area (places to visit, good restaurants, the best beaches, parking in nearby towns) which is so useful when you only have 2 precious weeks' of holiday. The location was perfect. So many interesting places to visit within an hour's drive. The furthest we travelled was to beautiful Montpellier, which took about an hour, but Beziers and Narbonne could be reached within 30 mins or so). Carcasonne about 45 mins. Memories will include: the village annual fancy dress barge race; boating on the canal; drinking with the locals at the nearby woodland bar; walking by the river to a beautiful nearby village called Le Somail (you must eat at the restaurant next to the second hand bookshop- Roger and Jane will give you the details); swimming in nearby rivers; wine tasting (if you throw a stone here, you will hit a vineyard); the boys and dad being pulled behind a speed boat at the nearby beach; eating grilled sardines and drinking wine at the beach restaraunt; 10km kayak ride (fantastic!); opening the shutters every morning to perfect weather. Thank you again to Jane and Roger for stocking our fridge with a few essentials prior to arrival. So kind. We will return!

Super gite in a lovely village

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous two weeks in this lovely place.

The gite is very clean and well equipped, with a generous supply of groceries/consumables so no need to rush to the supermarket on arrival. Superb pool!

Roger and Jane are very welcoming hosts with a good knowledge of the area.

The village is lovely. Walking to the shop for fresh croissants every morning is a pleasure when you are openly greeted by local residents.

There are so many places to visit within easy travelling distance and also a great selection of eateries in the area.

Looking forward to returning soon.

The best gite we have ever stayed in.

  • 5 of 5

A really beautiful French house with lovely owners. We had a fabulous week here, blessed with perfect weather. You can immerse yourself in the French dream, in a village with just the amenities you need and nothing more, with the perfect hosts. Roger and Jane will help with anything you need. The location is ideal for exploring the historically rich Languedoc, having a day at the beach, visiting beautiful towns and enjoying the local cuisine and, of course, the wines!

A perfect week, thank you.

Fabulous family-friendly gite

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of four (two 7 year old children) and wanted a well equipped, comfortable space with a good pool to spend our two week summer holiday. As the gite slept six we took advantage of inviting some friends and then some family to stay. We wanted a nice environment to relax in by the pool so the kids could play but also be near some areas of interest if we wanted to explore. Le Fitou was the perfect balance of this. We had long lazy days by the gorgeous and generously sized pool and we had many wonderful excursions - suggested by the well-informed owners.

Nothing was too much trouble and Roger and Jane were very happy to provide the extra bed linen required for our various guests in addition to our own requirements. Having them next door proved very helpful as they were on hand to recommend tried and tested restaurants, beaches or places to visit. But most of the time we felt that we had the place to ourselves. The property was very well maintained and had everything we required - dish washer, washing machine etc and a well equipped kitchen. The rooms were generous and nicely decorated and there was plenty of room even when there were six people occupying the Gite. We would definitely recommend this Gite and already have and I expect that we will be back soon for another visit.
