About Jan

My father's family have lived in Lostwithiel for generations. My husband and I love living in Cornwall and are enthusiastic about inspiring visitors to explore this beautiful county. We spend a lot of our time walking the coast path and exploring the hidden valleys and secluded coves.

Jan purchased this house in 2007

Ideal location for touring

  • 5 of 5

Lostwithiel is a most attractive small town/ large village with numerous pubs and eateries, a well stocked co-op and lovely historic buildings ,in the pretty setting of the River Fowey valley. The secret Garden has indeed a lovely garden, patio and river view and is most comfortably and tastefully furnished . We were easily able to visit the Land's End peninisula( avoiding the over commercialised point itself), Padstow and the coast nearby, Fowey and the Coastal path, the Roseland peninsula ,the Eden project, and many lovely gardens and stately homes. The bluebell woods were fabulous and the hedgerows overflowed with wild flowers.

This is a great place to stay and we would recommend it to anyone. A great deal of thought has gone in to making this a beautiful holiday home with everything you could think of being provided to make you feel at home, including the lovely hamper which made our arrival so much easier.

We found it well situated, close to road links to make days out throughout Cornwall ideal.

This is a lovely place to be, even better than the photos suggest.

Wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

Excellent accommodation with wonderful views and garden. Lovely cream tea on arrival and welcome hamper a nice touch as not needing to worry about getting milk etc straight away.Good food at the Royal Oak nearby. Only problem is with the sloping ceilings upstairs making it difficult for taller people but my 6ft 5" husband stayed downstairs!

Spotless property, wonderful welcome, stunning views, beautiful garden, great location

  • 5 of 5

Sitting high above the town of Lostwithiel this is a spotlessly clean, well appointed property that offers stunning views across the valley and the River Fowey. The owners are extremely friendly and welcoming and made us feel completely at home from the moment we arrived and throughout our stay. The cottage contained everything we needed and was beautifully presented throughout. The door opens out onto a patio that offers the scenic views over the countryside and this then leads down into an immaculate garden that features lawns, flowers, vegetables and a pretty water feature.

Our stay coincided with the local carnival and the visit of a 10m high touring puppet - but whilst this created a vibrant atmosphere in the town the cottage remained peaceful and undisturbed throughout.

Lostwithiel is ideally located for easy access to many of Cornwall's highlights and the 10 minute walk to the railway station makes it possible to leave the car behind and explore the area by train.

Very highly recommended.

Wonderful break in a beautiful house

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Secret Garden – thankyou!

The house was lovely and very much a home away from home.

We arrived to a wonderful hamper of goodies including a homemade cream tea which was delicious

We enjoyed eating breakfast looking at the view, went for walks along the nearby beaches and across beautiful countryside, and spent evenings curled on the sofa in front of the log fire – what more could we have asked for!

The house was very well equipped, indeed the kitchen was better stocked with utensils and crockery than our own house, it’s extra details like this that some holiday home owners miss and it really does make a stay more comfortable. The beds were enormous and very very comfy – another huge plus.

The house was spacious, light and warm and the garden was lovely to wander around.

Jan struck the right balance regarding interaction (we wanted some ideas for local walks and pubs) but left us to enjoy our holiday knowing they were around if we needed them for anything else.

There was only 2 of us staying but the house could more than easily accommodate 4 – so we are looking forward to returning with some friends for another lovely break.
