Villa Thromila is a 180 sq. m residence situated in the southern coastal area of Souda in Rethymno prefecture. The villa is the best choice for large groups or families!
The villa is actually two independent attached houses that you can rent as one! It is a two story building in the total of 180 sq. meters and furnished in a modern and minimal style, it can accommodate 12 people in beds. Staying in our villa offers you the advantage of both having vacations with friends and having your private place for you and your own family at the same time.
The villa is located only 1 km away from the sandy beach of Souda and 3 km away from lively area of Plakias with shops and markets.
Totally isolated but close to everything, our villa offers full privacy to our guests and a variety of facilities for the whole family.
Each building contains a living room area with a dining table and a fully equipped kitchen, 2 bathrooms and 3 bedrooms. That means you will stay in a villa with 2 living rooms, 2 kitchens, 2 dining areas, 4 bathrooms and 6 bedrooms, having enough space and facilities for everyone!
Entering to each building on the first floor there is a spacious open plan area which consisting of the living room with satellite TV, the indoor dinning area and a fully equipped kitchen of top quality fixtures. From the living room area there is a direct access to the veranda with outdoor dining table. There is also a bathroom with shower. In addition, on the top of the living room area there is a loft which has 2 single beds.
Reaching the ground floor from stairs in each building, there are 2 bedrooms and a bathroom with bath. Both bedrooms have direct access to the pool and barbecue area. All the beds can be set up as a double or 2 singles based on your preferences.
Outdoors there is an organised fenced area of 400 sq. m with pool, barbecue and dining area where you can enjoy the panoramic sea view. The whole outdoor area is totally private and fenced, offering 100% privacy to our guests!

Regarding the pictures on this page, I have to say "what you see is what you get". In reality, the house looks just as good as on the pictures shown here. It has nice interior and exterior as well as a lot of space. The view over the ocean at breakfast is astonishing. The landlords are really friendly and helpful, offering fresh cake whenever they visit the house. Everything looked clean and organized, including the really nice swimming pool. The landlords share a lot of ideas for activities around the island. Only one point of "criticism". It could happen that there's a power outage/ the water is not working anymore. This is not the fault of the landlords (we already knew this happens on Crete from time to time) and they are also really helpful on the phone in case this happens. The point I want to make is, that maybe that could be explained when arriving at the house for the first time. Just to make sure that the renters know that this might happen and how to solve it.
Anyway, 5 Stars for the house and an incredible 2 weeks of vacation.
From start until we left this property there was an excellent service from the owner. Water, fruit basket, olive oil, honey and a superb orange cake were in the house when we arrived.
A warm welcome by the owner's family and explanation of what to see in the area was a good introduction to the southern part of Crete.
Several possibilities of both outside and inside seatings for larger groups. We were 9 persons travelling together and had both possibility of privacy and also sitting separately in smaller groups.
Outdoor kitchen was perfect and also were the several restaurants/tavernas in both Plakias, Souda and Selia (Taverna Elia is highly recommended).
Villa Thromila is built on the mountain side and has a magnificent view of the Plakias/Souda bay and city.
Several very nice beaches with snorkeling possibilities are also found in this area.
Especially we loved the tranquility of the southern side of the Island. However, it was quite windy on some days, but this was not necessarily a minus as it would otherwise have been too hot on the terrasse.
Both Villa Thromila and the Plakias area can be highly recommended for a relaxing vacation.
Our expectations were fully met.
In December we’ve made concrete appointments with our nine adult children (and partners) and we’ve booked both apartments for May. We were the third group who hired this place, because it was all newly build.
The apartments are located on a place with a panoramic view over the bay. At the evenings and night you have a romantic illumination of the swimming pool and the balconies. If you stay over there you will need to hire a car to visit places on the island.
The apartments are built side to side, but the other part can only be entered via a small gate of the balcony. This is very nice when you are with a large group. There is a lot of privacy, but also space for coming together.
We have played a lot in the swimming pool. Besides that we’ve walked to the small beaches in the surrounding and to Plakias. One of us has hired a bike and has conquered some mountain tops. We also visited other places on the island, like the beautiful harbour and the fort of Rethimnon.
We also used the large bbq and both kitchens several times to prepare our dinners. Kitchens are very well equipped and the place has comfortable furniture, including excellent beds, bathrooms, toilets, dish machines, chairs and lounge chairs etc.
The hosts are very, very friendly and kind and offer a lot of service. We could phone them whenever this would be needed. They speak German and English and offered us some special Greek products (drinks, honey and cakes). The place is cleaned half way, the pool is cleaned on a daily basis and also the garbage litter is emptied early in the morning.
We have had a wonderful time together with our extended family!

Die Bilder des Inserats lügen nicht. In Wirklichkeit sieht das Haus mindestens so gut aus wie auf den Bildern. Bei der Ankunft waren die Vermieter bereits am Haus. Als Begrüssungsgeschenk gab es selbstgemachten Raki, Honig, Olivenöl und Kuchen (sowie einen weiteren Kuchen jedes Mal wenn im Haus geputzt wurde). Der Ausblick über das Meer beim Frühstück ist atemberaubend. Das Haus ist geräumig, gut ausgestattet und hat einen schönen Pool.
Der Service während des gesamten Aufenthalts war super. Es ist immer jemand erreichbar sollte einmal etwas nicht funktionieren. (In unserem Fall hat die Klimaanlage mal gestreikt). Ausserdem werden auf Wunsch eine Vielzahl an Ausflugszielen und Aktivitäten vorgeschlagen.
Das Städchen Plakias und dessen Strand ist gut geeignet zum entspannen. Zu Fuss vom Haus dauert es etwa 40 Minuten (eine kleine Wanderung bergab), mit dem Auto sind es nur wenige Minuten.
Zusammengefasst lässt sich sagen, dass das Haus (mit den wirklich guten Vermietern) sehr empfehlenswert ist. Für unsere Gruppe war es ein gelungener Urlaub auf Kreta.
Our villa is located on a hill between the traditional village of Selia and the well known seafront village of Plakias. The natural beauty of the place helped Plakias to become a renowned tourist resort now providing all the facilities that a visitor could wish. Accessed by the magnificent Kotsifou and Kourtaliotiko Gorges, the village of Plakias is set towards the centre of a large bay enclosed within the arms of mountains. Originally a very small and quiet fishing village, it now offers a range of amenities. While it has grown in size over the years, it still retains its special charm that draws many visitors back again, year after year. For those interested in self-catering, the supermarkets, bakeries and other shops offer a very wide range of products, including local and traditional goods. There are, however, a tempting variety of tavernas and cafes. While there is no bank, there are a number of cash point machines, a post office and a doctor. For those wishing to explore further afield, there are books available describing the range of local walks.
Plakias makes a good starting point for walks along the coast to Souda, or up into the encircling hills to other villages such as Sellia or Mirthios, which give spectacular views out to sea. Bicycles are available to hire, as are motorbikes and cars.
