About the property

Halsecombe Cottage, Porlock - a cottage that sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms

Halsecombe Cottage is a delightful detached bungalow that was built in the 1920s. It is situated on the outskirts of Porlock and occupies an enviable position tucked into the lower slopes of Porlock Hill. A main feature of Halsecombe is the stunning view of Porlock Bay which can be enjoyed whilst you are relaxing in the living room and watching the ever changing light on the Bristol Channel, or you can look across to the old orchard opposite where red deer can frequently been be seen grazing.Entrance is via a small porch into the living room, the kitchen has a dining table and there are two bedrooms - one double and one twin. The family bathroom is situated at the end of the hall, which has a shower over the bath.Due to the situation of the property, the steps and the steep garden, we recommend that the property is not suitable for young children, elderly people or anyone with limited mobility.Halsecombe Cottage kitchen is fitted with electric cooker with hob and washing machine. Other equipment includes toaster, kettle, a comprehensive range of kitchen utensils, cutlery, crockery and glasses. The pantry is just off the hall outside the kitchen and has fridge, freezer, microwave and further storage space.

A television, DVD player and DAB radio is provided. Wifi is being installed in August 2014.

Electricity and heating costs are included in the price of your accommodation. Halsecombe Cottage has modern electric night storage heating in all rooms plus portable heaters for flexibility. There is an open fire in the living room; kindling, matches and one basket of logs will be provided. Additional logs can be purchased from the hardware shop in Porlock.

Good quality Egyptian cotton bed linen, duvets, blankets and towels are provided for your convenience, but please bring your own beach towels if you wish to take towels with you on day trips.

A small amount of tea, coffee, sugar, milk and biscuits are provided to ensure you can have a hot drink as soon as you arrive. Salt and black pepper are always available plus two spare toilet rolls. Environmentally friendly cleaning products, such as washing up liquid and cleaner are also provided.

A wooden bench and some garden furniture is provided. The cottage is ideal for walkers as the 3/4 acre natural garden gives direct access into woodlands and thereby onto the moor. In the Spring the garden is a mass of primroses and naturalised daffodils. The delights of Exmoor are literally on the doorstep and the Coastal Path is a mile or so woodland walk away at Porlock Weir. There is private parking for two cars just below the property, from there 24 steps lead up to the bungalow.

You are welcome to bring your dog with you to Halsecombe Cottage by prior arrangement. A supplementary fee of £25 will be added to your invoice. Please do not allow your dogs on the furniture and do not leave them alone in the property at any time.

Location

Car: not necessary

There is hardly any need to use your car during a stay in Halsecombe Cottage, we like to think that most of what you may need can be purchased in the village of Porlock. It is a traditional working Exmoor village boasting three pubs, two grocery shops, Post Office, a traditional local butcher, chemist, cash machine, petrol station, hardware shop, visitor centre and a range of independent restaurants, shops and tea rooms.Minehead is the nearest town, approximately 7 miles away. Here you will find the larger supermarkets and petrol stations (Tesco and Morrisons are both situated on the outskirts of the town and have longer opening hours), most major high street banks with cash machines, plus a range of other shops throughout the town.
