A perfect Getaway Rental In Upstate New York's Lush Dairy Country
Handmade house on 70 acre former dairy farm. Halfway between Cobleskill and Cooperstown. Very secluded, very peaceful, with 2 ponds, babbling brooks, woods and apple orchards and wild heron on the wetlands. This is one of the most relaxing, rustic spots you can imagine. Come and hike the land, cook great meals, or have a great nap in a rocking chair by the fire! Private and quiet, yet near to many wonderful things to do like Howe Caverns, Cooperstown, Glimmerglass Opera, antiquing, visiting Organic farms, Museums, The Baseball Hall of Fame, The Adirondacks, and on and on.
The farm is surrounded by state land, so Fall Foliage is amazing. And apple picking is a perfect afternoon activity. Upstate NY is amazing in the fall- crisp, chiseled days and brisk, clear nights. Enjoy our fire pit on the back patio under the stars.
Swimming in the spring-fed ponds in summer is so refreshing. The fishing in our ponds is wonderful. Our land glows at night with fireflies all July, and August brings nearby festivals, carnivals, and fairs all over the area.
The driveway is plowed in the winter for easy access, and the sledding and snowmobiling are fantastic. The woodstove is the heat source and heats the whole house beautifully and easily. And there is plenty of wood to keep it cozy all day and all night.
And the spring is a perfect time to come up- the brooks are babbling with melted snow, the acreage is turning green and starting to bloom, and the wild turkey, deer and heron abound!
The house has great amenities- Wood burning stove, dishwasher, microwave, double oven, well stocked kitchen with all hand appliances, wrap around porch, deep tub, satellite TV, DVD player and movie library, WIFI DSL line, CD player, King bed in sleeping loft, washing machine, futon, books and toys, linens and towels.
House comfortably sleeps 4-6 people. It is perfect for a family, a group of friends, or as a solo getaway from it all. The house is very kid-friendly, and well stocked with toys. Dogs are allowed with an extra deposit.

We bought this beautiful acreage years ago, as a respite from city life. There was no house on the property, it had been torn down ages before. And we fulfilled a dream of hand-building a home for ourselves, and family, and friends.
mindy purchased this cottage in 1997
We love upstate NY for it's gorgeous rolling hills, and pastural openness. We bought this exact property for the acreage, the secluded oasis, the views, the ability to build and create. And we wanted to lovingly restore the 125 year old barns.
The Quietest place we know.
The land is ripe, the views elating, The privacy amazing.
The ponds for swimming, the orchards for picking, the sky for it's awe inspiring vastness
Watching storms roll in over the mountains.
We had a perfect time! the kids loved swimming in the pond, hiking around the land, and the close proximity of Cooperstown. It was a great family getaway. Thanks for all the help
My wife and I live in Westchester New York and wanted to break the routine and to enjoy the foliage in up-state NY, over an extended weekend.
We also wanted to bring our yellow lab dog.
This place was it.
Formerly a farm - lots of acreage.
About 3 hour drive and the we were in a remote area 30 minutes west of Albany by car.
The house is spacious and open air with high, cathedral ceilings.
All the amenities and cooking utensils, pots, pans, dishes, silverware were there.
Even seasonings, cooking oil, plastic bags, etc.
The house is pretty old, maybe 20 years? Heating was burning wood.
It got pretty cold in early October.
The furniture was old and tired looking. The lounge couch was drooping in the middle.
The shower was low pressure with only small amount of hot water.
It's in a rural area so no swanky night clubs and posh restaurants around.
About 30 minute drive to a local grocery.
The rolling hills are beautiful.
Plenty of outdoor nature activities - hiking, cycling, jogging, swimming in the pond in summer, golf, etc.
An old tv in the loft bedroom, perhaps a 45 inch. Low resolution.
Wifi was in good working condition.
Cell phones don't work.
Rolling hills, barns, ponds and grassy fields make up an incredible 360 degree view surrounding this home. The property is peaceful and serene.
As you walk around this former farm, it's not hard to imagine the back-breaking effort it would have taken to clear the land, cut the timber, build the barns, tend the cows, the stone fences and the apple orchards. The swimming pond is a special treat. The house has a funky charm about it. Mindy's farm is a great place to "get away from it all".
After reviewing several properties on VRBO, trying to find the perfect fit for my family, I stumbled across this gem. My wife and I and the kids (ages 19, 17, 10 & 7) took a cross country road trip from Oregon to visit the baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown for induction weekend. We found that this farmhouse was centrally located between the town with all the stores and Cooperstown, but also right in the middle of the country. It was awesome waking up to the sunrise on the farm and going for a walk on the property. The kids enjoyed swimming in the pond and catching fireflies (which we don't have in Oregon!) at night. Mindy was a gracious host and was excellent in her communication when I had any questions about the property or the area. Would most definitely stay here again the next time we travel to upstate New York.
My family (including the dog!) had a nice quiet get away. It was nice to be able to reconnect as a family!
We live the city with our 4 legged kid and were looking to get away for the weekend. The pictures on VRBO are what caught my attention. The very serene setting with beautiful red barn standing proud struck a chord with my mid-western roots. The property did not disappoint. It is beautifully and accurately captured in the photos. It's easy to feel as if you have stepped away from the world. We found solace in the fact that cell phone coverage was sketchy at best. It was an unexpected but nice situation. The kitchen was well stocked and you will definitely find what you are looking for in kitchen gadgets and such. Everything was clean and well appointed. It is not the Four Seasons, and I don't mean that in a bad way. It's quaint, comfortable and feels like home. The grounds are amazing and teaming with wildlife. Sitting on the porch in the evening and hearing the owl hoot from the forest was a far cry from the sirens and horns from the city. The dog was able to explore and went on a hike with us. She came back in each night and slept through the night. It was relaxing for all 3 of us. We have already talked about going back sometime during the summer. Mindy was responsive in getting everything set up and provided a ton of information.
