Overview

About the property

A contemporary styled lodge in heart of country yet walking distance to town

'Hare House' is a beautiful luxury wooden Lodge, set in two acres of English garden; the River Nadder flows through the garden and there are beautiful views of the countryside and the Italianate church of Wilton. Designed in 2014 by the owner Sara, to be a calming and peaceful space, it offers the perfect base for a couple or individual seeking the quiet of the countryside, together with the many amenities of the small town of Wilton, the ancient capital of Wessex, just a few minutes walk away. Only 3 miles from Salisbury, it is also a good base to explore Stonehenge, the New Forest, Bath and Dorset. Wilton has a good range of shops including a bakery, supermarket, fruit and vegetable store together with pubs and cafes for meals. It is home to the Earl of Pembroke who lives in Wilton House, which has been used as the setting for many films, including Pride and Prejudice and which is open to the public.

Hare House is a self-contained Lodge, adjacent to our home. It has a well equipped separate kitchen; luxury bathroom with bath and shower; and a super Kingside bed which can be separated into two full-size single beds if required. The sitting area has a lovely Swedish log burner which provides warmth in the cooler days and evenings. The Lodge is very well insulated and always feels very warm and cosy.

We appreciate how important a comfortable bed and offer a choice of pillows, Egyptian cotton sheets, together with fluffy white towels and luxurious toiletries.

Your Welcome Pack will have everything you need to get you started for breakfast, and will include homemade cake and jam, bread, milk, juice, butter, muesli and granola and a variety of teas and coffee.

The River Nadder which flows through our garden is renowned for its trout fishing; our section of the river also has a variety of specimen fish. If you are interested, in fishing during your stay, please ask us for more information.

We are surrounded by beautiful countryside and there are many wonderful walks through the Chalke Valley and beyond. We have many walking guides of the immediate area and the New Forest and can offer advice on walking.

About Sara Hunter

I love meeting people which is why I decided to join Homeway as a host in September 2015. I also know how important it is have privacy when you are travelling - my husband John and I travel widely and we love it when we can find somewhere which offers the perfect balance of leaving us alone to get on with our holiday, but being on hand to offer local knowledge and advice - ideally over a cold beer! I hope we can achieve this with our guests.

We have sheep and chickens and I have rebuilt the raised veg beds and ordered the greenhouse so I can start growing my own seeds for the year's crop. Our guests are welcome to roam free in the garden and on our island over the river. John and I look forward to meeting you and sharing a special part of Wiltshire with you.

A Great Place!!!

  • 5 of 5

Sara and John provided absolutely everything we needed for our 6 days at Hare House. The grounds are beautifully kept with the additional delight of sheep, cows, swans, ducks, etc. to watch! It was especially appreciated after long days out sight-seeing. We sat by the stream and admired the beauty of it all!!! The kitchen was fully stocked with dishes, pans, utensils, spices, teas and coffee, etc. We cooked most of our evening meals and lacked for nothing in preparing them. There is much to do in the Wilton area and we were sorry that we had not planned a longer time there. Lovely bakery in town as well as a nicely stocked Co-Op for groceries.

It was a great place and we were sorry to leave! Jan and Ken, USA

Perfect property for relaxing

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful studio in a very pretty garden on the edge of the Nadder River. Walks and interesting places to explore abound and the village has several pubs in walking distance. Salisbury and its Cathedral are also very easy to get to via the local bus saving parking hassles.

Sara is a great host and the thoughtful touches like breakfast supplies and homemade cake in the well appointed studio make it easy to relax straight away.

Would love to return!

Comfortable, peaceful, beautiful home away from home.

  • 5 of 5

Sara and John, thank you for your care and attention to every detail. You are the perfect hosts. We loved every minute of our stay and only wish it had been longer. From a comfortable king size bed, beautiful decor, very nice soaps, fresh eggs, bread and homemade jam, to visits with the sheep, chickens and Tiffin the black lab, we loved it all. Also, the walks in the country were the best, especially the Bluebell walk. We hope to be back again!

Amazing!!!! A beautiful place with amazing surroundings to unwind and relax. Beautiful walks along the river straight from Hare House. From the decking you can sit and listen to the birds and watch the lambs gambolling in the field, they are so friendly and love to be petted. Sara and John are amazing hosts too - nothing seemed too much. We will definitely be back.

Just book, you'll love it...

  • 5 of 5

Hare House is gorgeous, the surroundings perfect. I stayed for 3 nights and did not want to leave. The cottage has everything you'd need or want...including fresh bread, jam and cake. Lots of other thoughtful touches like books, dvd's, and guides. The most comfy bed awaits you too! And my favourite was the log fire. It adds the most wonderful coziness (I think I used all the wood-sorry Sara!)... There are the sweet sheep and chickens that are friendly enough for a little petting or sheep selfie! The town is really pretty and has a supermarket, bakery and pubs. All within a 5 min walk. It was my birthday whilst I was there, and I woke up one morning to a gift of chocolates and homemade marmalade! I cannot say enough nice things about Hare House and the owners. Thanks for a brilliant stay Sara!
