Luxury lodge in idyllic riverside location near Salisbury

Bedrooms 1
Space 495 sq. ft.
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

About the property

One bedroom lodge in heart of countryside yet close to shops and transport.

'Hare House' is a beautiful luxury wooden Lodge, set in two acres of an English garden; the River Nadder flows through the garden and there are beautiful views of the countryside and the Italianate church of Wilton. Designed in 2014 by the owner Sara, to be a calming and peaceful space, it offers the perfect base for a couple or individual seeking the quiet of the countryside, together with the many amenities of the small town of Wilton, the ancient capital of Wessex, just a few minutes walk away. Only 3 miles from Salisbury, it is also a good base to explore Stonehenge, the New Forest, Southampton, Bath and Dorset. Wilton has a good range of shops including a bakery and supermarket, together with pubs and cafes for meals. It is home to the Earl of Pembroke who lives in Wilton House, which has been used as the setting for many films, including Pride and Prejudice, and which is open to the public.

Hare House is a self-contained Lodge, adjacent to our home. It has a well equipped separate kitchen; luxury bathroom with bath and shower; and a super Kingside bed which can be separated into two full-size single beds if required. The sitting area has a lovely Swedish log burner which provides warmth in the cooler days and evenings. The Lodge is very well insulated and always feels very warm and cosy.

We appreciate how important a comfortable bed and offer a choice of pillows, Egyptian cotton sheets, together with fluffy white towels and luxurious toiletries.

Your Welcome Pack will have everything you need to get you started for breakfast, and will include homemade cake and jam, bread, milk, juice, butter, muesli and granola and a variety of teas and coffee. Freshly laid eggs are usually available when our hens are behaving themselves!

The River Nadder which flows through our garden is renowned for its trout fishing; our section of the river also has a variety of specimen fish. If you are interested in fishing during your stay, please ask us for more information.

We are surrounded by beautiful countryside and there are many wonderful walks through the Chalke Valley and beyond. We have many walking guides of the immediate area and the New Forest and can offer advice on walking routes.

About Sara Hunter

I love meeting people which is why I decided to join Homeway as a host in September 2015. I also know how important it is have privacy when you are travelling - my husband John and I travel widely and we love it when we can find somewhere which offers the perfect balance of leaving us alone to get on with our holiday, but being on hand to offer local knowledge and advice - ideally over a cold beer! I hope we can achieve this with our guests.

We have sheep and chickens and I have rebuilt the raised veg beds and ordered the greenhouse so I can start growing my own seeds for the year's crop. Our guests are welcome to roam free in the garden and on our island over the river. John and I look forward to meeting you and sharing a special part of Wiltshire with you.

Hare House is a hidden gem away from the hustle and bustle of 21st century life. We stayed here to recuperate after a minor operation and the whole place was peaceful, restorative and welcoming. Sara and John were perfect hosts and I was thrilled to meet the sheep Mungo and Mary and be allowed to give them a stroke. The lodge is ideally situated in Wilton where there are local ameneties, the amazing Wilton House and country walks. We can’t wait to come back.

Lynne and George,

We had a great week in Hare House . The cottage has everything you need . It is clean and tastefully decorated . Wilton is a lovely village with lots to see , the church , Wilton house and the river and gardens at the cottage are lovely . Salisbury is close by where you can explore the cathedral and the town .Our Hosts Sara and John were very helpful and would recommend Hare House to have as a base for sight seeing or just stay and enjoy the peace and quiet .

We have stayed at VRBO is the US, Mexico and Netherlands and Hare House is by far the best! You can't get better hosts. Extremely comfortable and everything you need is there. Besides the extras like fresh bread, jam and eggs. Location is great! View is beautiful and so peaceful just perfect for a holiday. I can't say enough good things!

A gem in Wiltshire

  • 5 of 5

We had a very relaxing break at the Hare house. Thoroughly enjoyed the warmth of the log burner. The Hare house kitchen is well equipped. It has a cooking range and plenty of utensils allowing you to cook a proper meal. However it’s just minutes away from local pubs like the greyhound and Pembroke arms. The lounge is cozy and delightfully decorated. We will definitely revisit Wilton just to spend time at the Hare House. Thanks John and Sara for being such lovely hosts.

Best wishes,

Ritika & Vikram
