|Minimum Stay||2 - 5 nights|
'Hare House' is a beautiful luxury wooden Lodge, set in two acres of English garden; the River Nadder flows through the garden and there are beautiful views of the countryside and the Italianate church of Wilton. Designed in 2014 by the owner Sara, to be a calming and peaceful space, it offers the perfect base for a couple or individual seeking the quiet of the countryside, together with the many amenities of the small town of Wilton, the ancient capital of Wessex, just a few minutes walk away. Only 3 miles from Salisbury, it is also a good base to explore Stonehenge, the New Forest, Bath and Dorset. Wilton has a good range of shops including a bakery, supermarket, fruit and vegetable store together with pubs and cafes for meals. It is home to the Earl of Pembroke who lives in Wilton House, which has been used as the setting for many films, including Pride and Prejudice and which is open to the public.
Hare House is a self-contained Lodge, adjacent to our home. It has a well equipped separate kitchen; luxury bathroom with bath and shower; and a super Kingside bed which can be separated into two full-size single beds if required. The sitting area has a lovely Swedish log burner which provides warmth in the cooler days and evenings. The Lodge is very well insulated and always feels very warm and cosy.
We appreciate how important a comfortable bed and offer a choice of pillows, Egyptian cotton sheets, together with fluffy white towels and luxurious toiletries.
Your Welcome Pack will have everything you need to get you started for breakfast, and will include homemade jam, bread from our local bakery, muesli and granola and a variety of teas and coffee.
The River Nadder which flows through our garden is renowned for its trout fishing; our section of the river also has a variety of specimen fish. If you are interested, in fishing during your stay, please ask us for more information.
We are surrounded by beautiful countryside and there are many wonderful walks through the Chalke Valley and beyond. We have many walking guides of the immediate area and the New Forest and can offer advice on walking.
I love meeting people which is why I decided to join Homeway as a host in September 2015. I also know how important it is have privacy when you are travelling - my husband John and I travel widely and we love it when we can find somewhere which offers the perfect balance of leaving us alone to get on with our holiday, but being on hand to offer local knowledge and advice - ideally over a cold beer! I hope we can achieve this with our guests.
I am in my mid-fifties, have spent 30 years being fairly full-on in a career in the Third Sector and Education and am now slowing down a bit, working as a consultant. This gives me time to really get on top of my garden and begin my journey into self-sufficiency. We have sheep and chickens and I have rebuilt the raised veg beds and ordered the greenhouse so I can start growing my own seeds for the year's crop. Our guests are welcome to roam free in the garden and on our island over the river where we have built a natural plunge pool for the more adventurous. It is refreshing after a hot day in the garden! John and I look forward to meeting you and sharing a special part of Wiltshire with you.
Sara Hunter purchased this cabin in 2003
Hare House is a beautifully furnished, contemporary lodge. It is very light with views of open countryside, and the River Nadder runs along the south side of the lodge. Spacious, warm and with everything you need for your holiday within walking distance in Wilton. This includes two excellent pub / restaurants, coffee shops, a delicatessen, bank, baker and supermarkets.
Peaceful and quiet with uninterrupted views of countryside yet within walking distance of goof pubs, baker, deli and supermarkets.
Had an amazing time at hare house, Sara really goes out of her way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Everything you will need is supplied, and couldn't have asked for more really. All the local pubs, cafe, bakery and the market on the Tuesday morning were great. Co-op 5 minutes away for any bits you need from the supermarket. We drove to the new forest numerous times as it's only a short journey and had a great experience. The garden at hare house is really beautiful, lovely stream and a pond. The sheep are really friendly, aswell as the lovely bunch of chickens that roam freely. All in all a 10 out of 10 and highly recommend. Huge thanks again!
Beautiful place, Sara's attention to detail and understanding of what makes a relaxing romantic stay is spot on. The welcome pack is one of the best we've had. Fantastic property in a gorgeous location, with superb hosts. Definitely returning in the spring.
I stayed with my girlfriend for her birthday and couldn't have asked for more. We arrived to the lodge and were incredibly impressed at the layout and cleanliness. There were so many little touches that made settling in really easy. The location was really beautiful and secluded, but still a 5 minute walk from the baker, pubs, Co-op etc. We didn't meet Sara until the day after our arrival, but she was really friendly and wanted to make sure everything was perfect for us. We would definitely come back again and next time for longer, as the weekend flew by.
Myself and my partner stayed at the Hare House for two nights for a relaxing get away and we got exactly that and more.
Super friendly greeting upon arrival, the lodge is stunning as well as the garden and river, we couldn't have asked for more.

What a great stay at Hare House, lovely warm welcome from Sara on our arrival.spotless warm plenty of hot water, lovely home made jam cake fresh eggs and many more extras. The beautifully kept gardens with the river Nadder at the bottom is a tranquil place to sit after a busy day sightseeing. If we are back in the area we would not hesitate to stay at Hare House again. Thanks again for a lovely stay.
My partner and I had a lovely mid week getaway at Hare House. The pictures don't do it justice. It's a lovely balance of new, clean, but also rustic. The decor is lovely. You are greeted by Sara who is very welcoming. Your stay starts with freshly made cake and a well stocked tea and coffee making facilities. Out the front and you are straight into the village, out the back your are straight into the countryside. Amazing! Also for animal lovers there are friendly sheep, a happy dog, chickens, and some swans! The location is a perfect jump off point for people wanting to explore Wiltshire. We have a rule of not going places twice but for Hare House we could make an exception.😀
15 min drive to Stonehenge. 30 Minutes from the New Forest. AN hours from Bath. 10 mins drive to Salisbury. Beautiful country walks in local area including pubs.
I cannot accommodate children or additional guests (maximum occupancy is two). Sorry, no pets. We have a dog and a cat on the property.
